[Axel rubs his neck as he pushes himself off of the wall he's leaning against outside his and Roxas' apartment.]

It's not like I have a choice. [Sigh] What'd I miss this time, anyway? I've only gathered bits and pieces.

...hang on a sec.

[Because he'd rather not have this conversation over the SFC when you're standing right outside the building. He'll be out in a few minutes, and give you a wry smile. Bad news, but good to see you up.]

[Axel's standing a couple of feet in front of the building when the SFC suddenly shuts off and he sighs, knowing what's to come next. He pockets his communicator after that and then glances over his shoulder to see his best friend wander right up to him.]

Hey.

[There's a slight hesitation, and then you know what? He closes the rest of the distance to hug Axel. Because he kind of wants to and this seems like a good time before they get to the sucky stuff.]

[Roxas has hugged him at the spur of the moment before, so this isn't anything new. ... Doesn't mean that he's used to it, though. Axel brings a hand up to return the hug anyway and gives Roxas a small pat on the back.]

Are you... ok?

[Hanging on a second longer before pulling back.]

Yeah, I'm all right.

Just, some stuff's been happening and- I'm glad you're here.

[Axel furrows his brows at that. Overprotective BFF senses tingling. Explain.]

Well- Have you heard anything about Vanitas?

[Because there've been a couple warning posts and this would be easier if you saw one of them.]

Mickey mentioned him to me once. Told me about his abilities and whatnot.

[--Wait. Axel's eyes widen a bit and his expression suddenly becomes more serious. Vanitas was after Ven...]

What'd he do to you?

I'm okay.

[He says this quickly to reassure Axel, and then goes on more reluctantly.]

But... I ran into him and he attacked me. This guy Rin helped me out.

[Way to follow up a reassuring statement with something like that, Roxas.]

Did he say why he attacked you?

[Come on, Axel, he looks fine, right?]

There wasn't- really much talking.

...he called me a fake.

[Just because you say that doesn't mean you really are. And he wasn't there to see this all go down, so clearly there's something he's not seeing...

He's paranoid, ok?]

A fake. [Ventus, probably. Axel sighs again and glances away.] What happened to him?

[This is actually the part that bothers Roxas more.]

We chased him off that time, but- he went after Rin's friends...

[He glances up at Axel's face. There's a little more to that 'glad you're here.' Vanitas could've gone after Roxas's friends...]

He's dead, for now. I guess- Rin went kind of berserk. I wasn't there.

[Axel hasn't met this Rin person, but at least he knows that he doesn't have any intentions of hurting Roxas. ... Or so he hopes.]

But he'll come back.

[Because that's what this place does, after all. And when that happens--]

... Just make sure that you stay away from him if he does return.

...and just let him hurt people who've got nothing to do with it?

You'll just get yourself into trouble you shouldn't be a part of.

I just wanna talk to him.

If he didn't talk straight with you the first time, then what makes you think he'll do it at all? He's clearly got a screw loose, Roxas.
