[Have you missed this face, Vatheon? Wait..the face seems to be a little different. That's because Fai's gain was one shiny blue eye. He seems rather pleased with it. Too bad it's only temporary.]

So many people are gaining nice things. I hope the losses haven't been too great. That is the key, right? Something gained for something lost!

Tell me though, how many people would prefer the thing they lost to the thing they gained? And how many are happy with their gain versus their loss?

Mmm. Can't say I'm a fan of what I gained. But my loss?

[His smile is a bit rueful.]

Heh. It's bittersweet, but I guess I shouldn't complain. I definitely prefer it.

So you are happy for your loss, but not happy for your gain?

At least you can kind of enjoy your week in that way. If it isn't prying too much, what were the gain and loss?

I can, in a sense.

[He hesitates, his answer coming slowly.]

I lost a fear that I've had since I was a kid. It makes it a lot easier to interact with certain people now. I'm definitely glad for that.

But my "gain"... [There's an awkward chuckle, Guy rubbing at his neck.] I went and turned into a vampire, it seems. I, ah... I wouldn't count it as much of a gain. More like a hindrance.

[There is going to be some staring for a moment and then Fai bursts out laughing. He can't help it. It seems one man's loss seems to have jumped to be someone else gain.]

I see. Yes..being a vampire can definitely be a hindrance sometimes. But it really isn't such a bad thing as long as you don't have a blood phobia.

[He blinks in confusion at the laughter. What, what was so funny?

After a moment of listening, it sinks in, and he allows himself to relax.]

I take it you're speaking from experience.

It'd good to see you without your eyepatch, by the way. Your eye color is lovely.

You could say that. I do have some knowledge about being a vampire.

Thank you~ It's a bit strange to see the blue eye again but it is nice to be able to see out of both of them.

...I imagine losing that in the first place wasn't an easy thing for you to have to go through.

I don't admit this to many, but direct knowledge. In fact, the missing eye was the cause of my becoming a vampire. So to get one back in replace of the other..a bit ironic really.

Heh. I guess it explains you finding this slightly hilarious, hmm?

Still. I'm glad the burden's been lifted from you, even for a little bit. It must be hard to live like this all your life.

I really haven't been one for very long. Really in comparison to how long I've lived, it's a mere speck on the timeline. It can be inconvenient though. Be glad yours is only temporary.

No kidding. I can't imagine how you'd have to adjust your life around this... especially if food isn't readily available.

[He's at least gotten lucky on that end of the deal. Thank god that there were other vampires in the city besides these two.]

Luckily this world is very accommodating. In my case I usually have a traveling companion that is my prey. But it is certainly a big adjustment.

[Considering how much he's been through just to get a decent drink of blood, to say the change was an adjustment was an understatement. He sighs raggedly.]

It's... kind of bittersweet knowing that there's other vampires out there in the bubble, you know? But I hope you're all figuring thing out well enough for prey.

We have people we can count on. For us..we feed from each other to keep from harming anyone else. Or there are the blood packets at the store that will sustain us for a little while. You find a way to survive with what is around you.

I'm glad, then. That you've figured out a way to make things work, and that you have supplies at hand.

...I can't imagine how hard it might be for you otherwise.

It can be difficult at times. But as I said..you learn to make due. Did you gain any abilities with your new found vampireness?

[He's silent for a long moment, looking genuinely puzzled.]

I'm swifter on my feet. I feel... deeper. Like my senses have changed...

[The blonde gives a sheepish shrug, stifling a quiet laugh.] I've really not paid that much attention to it, I guess. It's been pretty... ah, distracting.

[Fai laughs and shakes his finger at the device.]

You have to try out the fun parts of it! Stop being distracted by the one aspect and learn about all the new things you can do. It is only temporary after all.

[It's slipped out past a disbelieving and uncomfortable chuckle. Oh good, just his luck to be talking to an optimist.]

I guess I could, sure, but... not gonna lie, just the one part of it is already a handful. I wouldn't know where to start.

Well you don't have to do that one part all the time. Most of us can get away with doing it every few days. You might even get away with only having to feed once. So all those other times you can do other things.

Yeah, I've heard that about feeding...

[He settles back into a thoughtful expression once more, letting himself relax a little bit more.]

I guess I'll just... have to be open to learning? I'm not sure what else to expect.

[It had taken Fai a long time to get used to being a vampire..but also to accept being alive at all. He should have died that day and although he doesn't feel the same way now, those feelings had been very important at the time.]
