[ The video turns on to a smiling girl in a kimono. ]

Hello! I'm Chizuru Yukimura. [ The girl bows her upper form entirely, able to do so as her SFC is propped on top of her table. ] I've been in Vatheon for about two weeks. [ A slight pause as she smiles sheepishly. ] I kind of had trouble with this device, but I think I've finally got it figured out!

[ Chizuru's been busy, exploring the city and getting her own home and figuring out things. Really, she's kind of proud of herself. Yes, it was alarming when she first arrived, but.. she's adapted and learned quickly. ]

I'm wondering if there's anywhere I can volunteer as a medic? I have experience with general doctoring and being a battlefield medic. ..I want to learn way more about healing and helping others. I can also run messages and do tasks like that. [ Now that Chizuru's "settled down," she's eager to start helping out. ] I do know self-defense, so I can protect myself if I have to.

[Ah, a fellow medic. And so polite, too.]

Hello, Yukimura-san. It sounds like we arrived around the same time. My name is Yukio Okumura.

[He smiles and offers a brief bow of his own.] I've offered my own services at the city clinic, and more hands are always welcome from what I hear.

Nice to meet you, Okumura-san! [ Chizuru smiles as she tilts her head. ] I see, a city clinic. Would you, uhm.. please tell me about it?

[ She's sure she could figure out more if she was more adept with her SFC, but .. give her time! She's only figured out how to turn the thing on and record, and also browse other posts recently. ]

Of course. It's a fairly modern set up, very clean and well-stocked. It seems equipped to handle most things, from general illness to battle wounds. Things seem fairly calm at the moment, though, so it's not very busy. [Thankfully.]

Most of the nursing staff is made up of locals, but there's plenty of room for residents as well.

Modern, huh? [ Chizuru looks hesitant for a moment. She had the feeling things seemed different than what she was used to, but only after looking around for a few weeks has she realized she's "out of date."

It just means she has more to learn. ]

Thank you for the information. I'm going to head down there soon and check that out.

You're welcome. [Is that hesitance he sees? She also mentioned having trouble with the SFC. And from what he can see of her clothes... well, he can make some tentative assumptions about when Chizuru is from in general. Yukio's own father is from a time before his death, so it makes sense that others may be from further in the past.

He doesn't voice his assumptions though. Just smiles.]

If you need any assistance feel free to contact me. We'll likely run into each other at the clinic at some point anyway.

Th-thank you, Okumura-san. [ Another short bow. ] I'll keep that in mind! [ Really, she's glad he offered, since it feels like she is going to need help. ]

[Here's something unusual. Even if Chizuru's met any of the trolls so far, this one's still a bit different. Her skin is glowing, literally producing light.]

Hello, miss Yukimura. The City Clinic allows volunteers. There's a man there by the name of Cielo, he's a foreigner too, and worth getting in contact with if you want to help. If you have the time though, I'd like to warn you about that place first.

Thank you. I appreciate the help. But, uhm.. a warning? Okay? [ Chizuru tilts her head. Why would this .. strange lady have a warning about the clinic? ] Oh, what's your name? [ The girl smiles. ]

I apologize, I should have introduced myself. I'm Kanaya Maryam. It's a pleasure to meet you, miss Yukimura.

The clinic... It's not run by good people. They take care of their patients, but they're a part of the group that brought all of us here, and I'm certain they don't really care about any of us. They have a cruel sense of humor, and are almost certainly working for some unknown agenda. They have the facilities and supplies to allow you to provide good medical care, but i would still suggest caution. Just... be aware that they might not be trustworthy in anything they do.

..Oh, [ Chizuru's eyebrows knit as she digests that. ] I'd still really like to practice being a medic and be able to help where I can. ..Thanks for telling me, Miss Maryam. I'll try to be careful.

[ The girl bows her upper form in thanks. She appreciates any help that someone will throw her way as she fumbles through Vatheon, but this was really important help and she's grateful. ]

I'm glad to hear that. Before I go, may I compliment you on your wonderful Kimono?

[It's obvious that she took the effort to get the pronunciation exactly right.]

Thank you! [ She smiles. ] This is a more plain one of mine, but I do like the color. ..Ah..

[ Miss Maryam sounds like she's about to go, but Chizuru really wants to know.. ] I hope this isn't.. intruding? I am just wondering what.. you are? I have never seen anyone quite like you. [ There's a bit of color in her cheeks as she asks, as there's no real polite way to ask someone "what they are". At least, not that Chizuru knows of at the moment. She hasn't met people that she doesn't know what they are besides the demons. ]

[Oh? Exciting! Kanaya pretty much never gets asked this, what with the fact that the bubble is crawling with people like her and any new foreigners she meets have usually met one of them before.]

It's not intruding at all. I'm a Troll. We come from a different planet than Earth. We're the second most populous species in Vatheon, after humans, so it's likely that you'll meet more of use soon. All Trolls have horns like mine, thoguh they're all unique in shape, and most of them...

[With a touch of concentration, she 'turns off', the glow dropping immediately.]

...have purely grey skin, like this. I'm a fairly unique case.

[ Chizuru had noticed that Kanaya had horns, but they didn't look like any demon's she had ever seen. There was a lot of these trolls in Vatheon.. ]

Do trolls have.. special traits? Maybe.. quick regeneration? [ Or anything like a demon? Even if trolls were not like demons, it made Chizuru feel somewhat satisfied to know that there were many other non-humans around. ]

I really couldn't say. Almost everybody that comes here to Vatheon is exceptional in some way, and that includes humans, trolls, and any others. I really don't have a baseline for what "special" would be. None of my friends are really normal for trolls. We all went through a game that changed us in different ways. We might be alien, but death is supposed to be a singular event for us just like it is for most humans. Death is really confusing without the finality.

[ Some of that was a bit hard for Chizuru to follow, but she got the basics of it.

In fact, as Kanaya is speaking, the girl can't help but smile. It feels nice to know that she's not alone in being the only non-human, truly. ]

Death isn't final here..? [ Is that what Kanaya meant? ]

[Kanaya notes a little confusion there, and prepares herself. She has a lot to explain. Luckily, Chizuru is talking to one of the most precise and thorough trolls. She might go on for a bit, but she'll try to stop for air. She has a friend that has a habit of doing this sort of thing all at once, and she knows better than to bombard someone like that. ]

Well, that's not quite what I was getting at, but by a coincidence, yes. If you die here in Vatheon you will appear god as new in the plaza within five days. Sometimes people have died and been returned to their home world as if nothing happened. Some of those in turn are brought back. It's somewhat complicated.

But I was talking about something different. Twelve members of my race, including myself, were drawn into a game of sorts that was manipulated by a god-like entity. Within this game, we were given powers, and a second chance at life after death. The trolls here are all either a member of the group that entered that game, members of another group of twelve that did the same, or they are tied to us in some way. My point is, the trolls that you see here aren't normal representatives of our race in some respects. Some, like myself, more so than others. I died twice, and the second time I came back was not through the means of the game, but something else entirely.

[Plenty of non-humans in these parts, miss. Aliens, cartoons, anthropomorphic animals, and more than few demons. Even combination non-humans, like Kanaya here, who's basically an alien vampire. You're in good company.]

I see. [ So.. Chizuru thinks for a moment as she absorbs this. ] So death in Vatheon is not permanent, and the trolls here are special. Would you think that most people who come to Vatheon are special in some regard..? [ That would make sense, wouldn't it? Why bring people to your world if there's not something special about them? ]

It certainly seems that way. Also, people from the same world tend to have some sort of connection, with the trolls as an obvious example. There are some people who seem to be normal for their point of origin, but the truth is that people can be brought here from any point in time. Just because they think they're normal now doesn't mean that they aren't going to become significantly special in their own regard later. There's a five year old girl, for example. A normal human by all accounts, but who knows what she would be back on her home planet, given the rest of her life?

A five year old girl? [ Chizuru frowns. Why would they bring someone like that..? ] ..Thank you for all of the information, Mss Maryam. It's. been.. hard to adjust. Anything I can learn, the better.

[ She bows her upper form again. ] I'm going to go check out that clinic now. Don't worry, I'll be careful! I won't forget your warning.

I understand the difficulty. It was a pleasure speaking with you, miss Yukimura.

I can teach you how to make herbal medicines if you're interested, Miss Chizuru.

Herbal medicines? Oh! [ Her eyes light up. That's something she has always wanted to learn, but never had the chance. ] Yes! I'd be.. ever so grateful. [ The girl bows, rushed and eager. ] What's your name, mister?

Yes. I'd be glad to teach you. I'm Labrador. It's a pleasure to meet you.

It's a pleasure to meet you, too, Mister Labrador. [ The girl pauses to think. ] If you have some time and place you'd like me to meet you, would you be able to send it to me? [ Chizuru wouldn't want to just randomly visit it when she felt like it, as that seemed ridiculously imposing. And she hardly knew the man. ]

Hmm... Well, I'm pretty free here actually as I've only just arrived not long ago. I'm living at Cottage One in the Village right now and you're free to come by any time.

I will keep that in mind, and hopefully see you soon. Thank you. [ The girl bows again. ]

Do you have any experience at all with making medicine though?

No.. is that going to be an issue? I've helped apply it only.. [ The girl puts her fingertips together briefly, and then looks back to the screen. ] I am interested in gardening and plants, but never had a chance to really learn.

Oh, not at all! I'd be glad to teach you from the very basics!

[ Chizuru smiles widely again. ] Cottage One in the Village.. when I come over, I'll let you know ahead of time! But, it'll be soon! [ She's getting more excited, so she won't wait too long. ]
