[This part is rather silly, but he's curious. It's clear from his surroundings that he is in Bar HOMRA, a fish tank with red fish behind him.]

Vatheon, I have a question. If it was a certain number of days until your birthday in your world when you arrived, would you call the day that many days after you arrived your birthday? Or would you call the day that you've always called your birthday your birthday still?

[Basically, the day after you've lived that many more days, or the date. He's curious. Partially because he's wondering if he should call himself 23 or not.

[He's rather obviously on the couch, waiting. King has to come down sometime, right?

...He'll probably be too hungry to pay attention. Should he cook while he waits...?

It's more logical to keep the same date. But more fun to count the days. Why not have both, since we have little else to do in this place?

But then when do I say I get older? At both of them, or just one? And if only one, which one?

I would say on the one where you count the days, since that's technically one Earth year after your last one. Your body isn't aging any slower or faster here.

[It's been that many days since he arrived, for all he knows that'll only last as long as he's here. He did arrive with a bullet wound, and his friends had been awfully happy to see him...

[ Well that sounds like a tragedy in the making. Oh dear. Annabeth's only gone back in calendar time a little so the dates for her won't be much different.

Valentine's Day? Don't tell me they usually get you roses and chocolates for your birthday?

Not everyone did. They've gotten me other things too.

[Like clippers for his bonsai, new guitar strings, polishing cloths for his egg replicas, and various other things for helping with his hobbies.

He kinda likes flowers and chocolate. It never bothered him that much. Finding things to give back a month later was fun too.]

But still, I'm sure the Valentines jokes must've gotten boring year after year.

[ Not that Annabeth has ever really celebrated her birthday much. It fell in January when most people were away from Camp Half-blood at school. ]

Maybe if I hadn't met [King] my friends. But they're always interesting to be around, so the jokes never got boring!

[There's something to be said for sticking around the same person (and his friend) as they picked up others for eight years.]

Maybe that was also because I was making some of the jokes...

Three of them were here before I was! Apparently another of them was here but had already left by the time I arrived.

[And there's also the guy who is in the body of the guy who killed him. They get along fine now too.]

Someone who helped me when I was getting chased was here for a short time as well.

[Nope, no names are gonna be mentioned.]

Ah, right. That happens a lot around here... the leaving thing.

[Which is sad. He'd liked to see Yata again and talk to Kuroh more.

He rubs the back of his head.]

That's.... he made sure the people chasing me went away. [And then passed out from a fever.] King...and HOMRA have some enemies.

[ Little does Annabeth know that it's going to happen to her soon. She smiles sympathetically. ]

I see. Are they friends from your world? Sounds like where you come from is pretty dangerous. [ Annabeth can relate to that. She assumes HOMRA is an organisation but you can never tell through just speech alone. ]

[Just like he doesn't know another of his is going to leave.]

Aah...I'm not sure if you can really say I'm friends with the guy who saved me. We only met that one time before I came here. [He frowns a little.] And he was asleep for most of that.

[That sounds absolutely terrible, doesn't it? Oops. It's not like it sounds, honest.

Pretty dangerous. Yep. His best friend was practically a time-bomb according to his other best friend (the one who left). Luckily he can't get hurt by their flames, but...he's the only one who could stop King.]

But King is my friend, and so are the members of HOMRA. [Maybe it'd be better to call them a family for Anna.]

I guess so, but it was always a lot of fun! Most people are really quite friendly if you talk to them calmly. [Even when they have a hand around your neck!]

Well that's something at least. [ Annabeth isn't sure what to make of a lot of this. But this guy seems to be safe now and he has a friend here. That's the main thing she's getting from the conversation. ]
