[There's not really anything but to try to catch it instead of letting it by, and hope that it doesn't scratch him. He grabs it and holds it some distance from his body, one arm moving to support the lower legs and hold it that way, to calm down the cat a little.]

There, I have it. Now stay back for a little while, let it settle.
