Video: Training partners wanted

How many of you here in this city know how to fight? I'm going to get rusty at this rate. Anyone who has a bone structure so weak that they can't withstand the pressure of the ocean outside unaided need not apply. I'd prefer those that know how to use their ki, but any physical fighter will do. If your weapon does all your fighting for you, don't bother. I want someone with a strong body.

But...

[Okay, sorry, he can't help staring a bit. He's not certain if Vegeta is being serious, or if maybe he just misheard, but...]

You fight people with keys?

[Vegeta looks at Lloyd blankly, then turns and blasts a rock behind him. It's a small blast since he's not paying much attention, and something that Lloyd has seen Regal do (even if only once, to blast the lock off that door).]

Not keys. Ki.

[Lloyd hasn't actually seen Regal do that yet. He's from an earlier point in time. But he's seen lots of magic and mana-enhanced attacks, so Vegeta's blast isn't completely foreign.

Even so, color him impressed.]

Whoa. That's pretty cool! That's what you call ki? It looks a lot like mana.

[He thinks about the original question for a moment in light of this revelation.]

Well, I can't do anything like that, but I know how to use my own mana in a fight. Does that count?

[He hasn't heard the word mana before, so he's not sure. He shrugs, paying more attention to the feed.]

Show me.

[Welp. This he can do.]

Ki... you mean energy or magic, right? I use that.

"Magic"? That's just a word for things that people don't understand yet. What sort of fighting would use magic?

[Hmmm. Most of his attacks don't really use visible mana. It's more apparent in what it makes him capable of. A few are flashier than others, though.]

Okay, hang on, I need my hands free for this.

[Give him a moment to set the SFC down one of the benches outside, positioning it so that Vegeta can see what he's doing. Once that's done, he draws his swords and concentrates to focus his mana. Moving swiftly, he lunges forward, slashing one sword with the other close behind. Crackling blue energy leaps from his blades.]

Beast!

[And for a moment, the mana almost seems alive, a snarling visage with fangs snapping at empty air. Then it's gone, the mana dissipating like so much harmless fog.]

[Vegeta's not too sure why he's using swords, but hey - that was definitely something. He grins at the camera.]

Not too bad. I hope you're not adverse to pain, there's no point in fighting if it's not for real. The coral in the plaza can heal the loser, so neither of us should die.

This kind.

[He points the camera out the window, which he opens, and shoots a bolt of lighting at the ground.]

[Vegeta looks startled. Ki doesn't take the form of elements. Magic is something that he's never seen before. He picks up his SFC and flies out the window, looking for the spot in the city that has a brand-new pothole that would match such a lightning strike. His vision is sharp and he can fly extremely fast, so it doesn't take him too long to find and inspect the hole.]

Come down here.

[He looks back into his SFC. This sort of power is worth investigating.]

[ OHAI BFF. Have just a moment of disbelief. ]

You're... joking, right? No one has the strength to do that!

[It's that whiny kid! Vegeta remembers him. But not his name. Hope Yukki doesn't mind being called "you".]

Why would I joke about that? It's hardly my problem if humans can't survive the pressure. I don't want to spar with anyone that I'll crush on accident.

[ He is not whiny- just emotional. Oh. Well Yukki doesn't mind. Maybe.

... So he really was telling the truth. ]

Eh? Then it might be hard to find someone to spar with... Most people can't withstand an ocean. [ Not anyone he knew, at least. ]

It doesn't need to be the ocean in particular. That's just an example that was easy to reference.

[He sighs, looking unamused.]

I have noticed that most people here are not worth fighting, though.

Oh, right! I knew that. [ Or not. ]

Well, we were all taken from our home worlds, right? There isn't much of a point to start fighting here. [ Unless you were cray cray before coming here but details!! ] Besides, you must be really strong already!

[He's strong, but not strong enough.]

Perhaps. But what if this place forces us to fight? It would be foolish to not keep up with training.

[Oh fine. He tucks his SFC into his pocket and heads out onto the fire escape, using it to head down to the ground. He'll have to apologize and fix that later... anyway. He walks over to where Vegeta is.]

[Vegeta turns off his SFC and puts it away as well, folding his arms.]

I would like to see you do that again.

[He's still not entirely sure it wasn't some sort of illusion since it was over the network and all.]

Fine.

[Let's see... a better target... he points to a tree, and then sends a bolt at it, followed by some shards of ice to put out any fire that might spark.]

I'd spar with you, just...please don't ask me to hurt you.

[Ratchet's SFC is placed against something. He is currently sitting surrounded by junk and Vegeta can see his tinkering with something.]

Guess that means I'm out. I've got a lot of work to do anyway.

Hey, I can handle more than you might think.

[Lloyd is a confident and cocky teen - and he's also probably wrong. He may be stronger than the average human, but he's nowhere on par with a Saiyan.]

Whoa, really? I didn't know it could do that! That's even better, then! I definitely won't hold back!

[The power is scary, but also a little exciting. This guy might actually be able to hurt him. Why not start fighting right away? Vegeta lashes his tail about and charges a strong blast, sending it towards Katsu.]

[The fact that Trunks is (from Vegeta's point of view) flaunting his superior strength pisses Vegeta off. He deletes the text immediately, glaring at his SFC.]
