[Okay, this time, the post is deliberate. Hubert is addressing, well, everyone. He pushes his glasses up out of habit before he begins speaking.]

My name is Hubert Ozwell. I've been in Vatheon for several months now, and... some of you likely saw me on the network a few weeks back. I apologize for not realizing my SFC was turned on.

That aside, I was part of the residents that were taken to a strange place some time back, and the dangers presented there were many and difficult. I realize the longer I remain stationary here, though, the more likely my combat skills are to atrophy. That's not something I would like to happen.

I am aware of the defense force, however I haven't decided just yet if I want to join. If anything I would like to ensure that I'm not going to be a liability and that I haven't lost my edge.

[Yes, it's only been a short time and he's already worried about this.]

Would anyone be interested in sparring at all? I extend this offer to anyone with decent to passable combat skills, as there isn't much I haven't dealt with. I also have healing artes, so I have no concerns or qualms about injures.

I await responses to know if this is something worth perusing. Thank you.

[I mean, as long as Bulma and Vegeta already know, the half-alien thing can't be too bad to hide.]

[Hubert is quietly starting to wonder just how many people here are human. He's feeling a bit in the minority at the moment.

Should we lay down some ground rules ahead of time? Straight martial arts, although if you want to use weapons, that's fine.

Frankly, as much as I would like to believe in my own skills, I know it wouldn't be much of a match if I only attempted hand to hand. If you're fine with weaponry I would prefer that.

However I do have a certain set of abilities that I'd be willing to forgo for this. They're rather... intense.

Sure. Use all the... guns or swords you like.

[He nods at that.]

Can you describe them? I've got a few tricks that might tip the odds pretty badly, too. Primarily, a transformation that increases my strength and ki, but I'm happy to skip that.

A transformation? Hmn...

[a thoughtful noise here, and a bit of a pause]

Mine is nothing of the sort. Our spells and attacks are called Artes, however there are sets of stronger artes that can deal far more damage than a simple attack or spell can. One of my Mystic Artes, in fact, would be no less than a barrage of attacks all at once.

It's not something I can do continually, though, so if anything I can assure you I wouldn't simply be throwing nothing but Mystic Artes at you in order to gain an advantage.

So it's magic. That's interesting. I can't remember having ever fought a magic user.

[The only magic user he's really aware of is Master Roshi's sister, and he's pretty sure she's either dead or hanging out in the afterlife because it's safer. Hasn't seen her since Dad was in the hospital after fighting Vegeta, probably...]

I wouldn't balk at one or two of those. The barrage one, definitely. I'm curious about it.

[Academically, anyway. He wonders how it would work, even as he thinks how much his father would probably enjoy a new sort of challenge.]

Can we set something up?

[Good, some one who can possibly handle some of his stronger Mystic Artes.]

Of course. I'm meeting people at the park all day tomorrow, if you're interested.

I am. We'll both benefit from this, I think.

I agree.

I can come find you now, if that's okay-- [And he's about to close the feed before--]

Oh, right, that's another one. I can fly. Think that'll be another thing to cut back on?

[But he's out the window now; any more responses will have some wind in the background.]

Fly?

[Well. That's a new one. But Hubert doesn't answer. He's actually curious as to how well his long range attacks might fair up against some one with flight capabilities.

So he's just going to wait in the park.]

[And pretty soon, he should see a guy dressed in orange and blue and slightly lacking in the 'left arm' department swooping down overhead. He's got a friendly smile, but his tone stays reserved.]

You were the one on the SFC looking for a sparring partner, right? Glad to meet you.

[He lands on the ground, and drifts into a loose fighting stance.] We can start now? Or do you have any more questions?

[Hubert is leaning against a tree, actually looking fairly relaxed for the moment. It's rare, but he does manage it sometimes.

As soon as Gohan arrives, though, he pushes off from it and straightens, standing tall with his weapon in hand.]

Yes. It's nice to meet you as well. When can begin whenever you're ready.

[Gohan doesn't answer verbally-- just hits the ground and takes a fighting stance. It makes the missing arm a bit more noticeable, however.

The stance is mostly perfect, but there's a sort of mechanical quality to the way he settles in. This is long habit.]

[Hubert moves in to a stance as well, staff at the ready. He holds his hand up and motions for Gohan to start, wanting to see what he's up against before making his own moves.]

[Gohan hesitates briefly, not wanting to hurt the stranger, but, well. He did say...

He breaks into a run, a straight forward charge, and aims a punch for the right shoulder. His strategy is to try and disrupt the ability to wield the weapon, but he still struggles to hold himself to a vaguely-human power level.

Of course, "vaguely human" to Gohan is still "stronger than the average pro-wrestler," thanks to the magic of limited reference pools.]

[Hubert throws his staff up to block the hit, but he feels the strength behind it and is surprised at how hard his usual block is pushed back. It's not every day he meets some one that can actually break it.

But there's no hesitation as he jumps back, snapping the staff in to two and sending the blades spinning rapidly in his hands as he attempts to strike back.]

That's an impressive weapon.

[Translation: Holy heck, I didn't shatter it on accident.

Gohan accepts the strikes. While he makes a token effort at blocking, he's more interested in watching how the weapons move.]

I like the versatility, how it can be a staff or dual sticks.

[No you did not, Gohan, and Hubert isn't done just yet. He actually smirks a little, pulling back enough to pause the fight for a moment.]

There's more to it than just that.

[Gohan will politely match his distance in backing away. And the smirk throws him off-- rather like Vegeta or Piccolo, but he'll go with it.]

Well, you shouldn't just talk about it, then.

[the smirk actually widens a bit, a little of that Lhant arrogance showing through.]

As you wish.

[with a flick of his wrists, the blades snapping back and becoming dual pistols. He crosses his arms and holds them out in front of himself, a scattering of white orbs of light forming around him and pulling inward.]

Cross Mirage!

[He fires a shot from each pistol, and they arc around surprisingly fast, and a third shot is fired as he holds one pistol above his head and fires. Should they strike, the image of a detailed white cross would be left in the air for a moment before dissipating.]

[Very cool looking. There's no way to test the force of the attack except by getting hit with it, so Gohan simply braces himself, not bothering to dodge.

The impact is surprising in its force, but it doesn't really knock him back. Maybe if he hadn't been ready for it, hadn't asked for it.]

I'd like to see how that impact works against a ki blast. Is that how it works? Using your ki to energize the pistols?

I'm afraid I don't know what "ki" is, but the energy that is a part of my world is refereed to as Eleth, if there is any similarity between them.
