I know we all get stuck here and wonder about our captors and all, trust me, I wonder too.

But today's a holiday, did you know? I didn't know either, because it's not a holiday in my world.

[A contemplative look at the bottle of milk before he continues.]

...Someone else here taught me about it.

Ever heard of Tanabata? I don't know much about it, but I guess it's worth celebrating.

[And he lifts the bottle of milk in a bit of an ironic toast.]

Have you guys learned anything from the people around you? You might as well not waste the trip.

What's it about?

You know, I honestly have no idea. We'd usually just get together and drink milk. I guess that wasn't so far off from a normal day, though, so...

Maybe it was about cows! I know a friend who'd love a holiday like that.

It's a Japanese festival about the meeting of two certain deities, commonly celebrated by writing down your wishes and hanging them.

[It was also kind of yesterday—]

[...he just swings his legs, idly, sipping his milk.]

That so? Saya never mentioned that part. She must've forgotten it.

[Like she forgot the proper day--]

... Yeaaaaaah, I can believe that. She forgot a few other parts, it looks like.

Do you know how Tanabata—the name itself, I mean—is written?

It's written with the characters for 'seven' and 'evening'. Aka, it's celebrated on the seventh day of the seventh month.

When exactly that is depends on which calendar you're going by, but if you assume the month to be July, then there's only one day that qualifies.

[Hint: it's not today.]

Any holiday's worth celebrating if it's such a special day. And that's one thing people can learn from each other, right?

That's idealistic--but I don't see why not. You got anything to share, then?

. . . uh. The day of Orochi's defeat? It was a huge occasion a hundred years ago, so Kamiki Village at least celebrates it.

You've never celebrated Tanabata before?

Once. With my friend here, but she couldn't really remember all of the details so we did what we can.

Mm! I celebrate it every year. I can always use a few wishes.

I just heard about the wishes from my friend. Do you think it's too late to still make a wish?

I don't think so! Even if it's a day late, it's the thought that counts, right?

I've been told so! So I might as well believe it.

Yep! I wrote down my wishes yesterday, and then I burnt them today.
