bakegarasu: (as i pondered weak and weary)

[Yeah, it's dark and late. So what? Otoha is standing on top of a roof, letting the camera pan around to take in the city.]

[He doesn't turn the camera towards himself, just faces it towards the coral, glowing softly, before he speaks.]

People can get brought back here. Death doesn't really mean anything, then.

Even at home, though… death wasn't really something that people like me were supposed to fear. Killing didn't really mean anything but the removal of a problem.

[He's quiet for a moment.]

Why do people get so upset about killing or murder? I've never understood it.

[There's another pause, like he's going to say something else, before he shuts off the feed.]

It inflicts a sense of grief upon the humans close to the victim. While natural death is understandable and a part of life, to have one human claim the life of another is considered to be unlawful and wrong. Why that is, I never understood it seeing as how the same humans who throw a fit over murder will welcome the death of a killer with open arms and celebration.

[Have a hug from behind, Otoha. A vampire has somewhat stealthily come to meet you on this roof after hearing the post.]

Aaah~ Otoha~ You're going to upset some people~~

People have souls, and even beyond that, they matter.

Everyone has potential, even if they haven't done anything significant for you yet. Death, generally, cuts off that potential. And here...it's still disturbing, and it usually still hurts.

Depending who is killed, people will get upset or not. To one may mean the removal of a problem, and to someone else the loss of a loved one.

[Literally done that and been there. On both sides of the coin.]

In this place, it only begets more violence apparently. If you kill one, then the one who died may come back seeking revenge. That only causes trouble for everyone.

There is also the fact that, depending on who you are attacking, you may end up not the killer but the killed. That worries those close to you. Death may not be like we know it here, but it does cause pain, and most individuals become upset when their loved ones are hurt in any way.

It still hurts, doesn't it? I don't know. I haven't really been killed yet. There were some majorly close calls. It just...the whole unknown thing. You know? It's kind of...unsettling. [He kind of paces as he spoke. Pausing now and then to wave his arm around or to look at the SFC.]

I wouldn't be happy if any of my friends would have to go through that. I wouldn't be able to see them for a few days and they would go through pain for a bit. We also don't know if we will always come back from death. What if the Lamofao or Lamu-whatever decides not to bring someone back?

[Whoa, personal.]

If it were you dying, it would mean something, wouldn't it?

[Gale... can understand this, actually. This is exactly what he thought for the longest time.]

Killing and murder creates an unexpected loss of those one cares about. When a person is appreciated for more than their role as a fighter, they can become impossible to replace.
