[He sighs and taps something before starting to sing a deceptively cheerful song.]

We'll drink the wine till the cup is dry,
And kiss the girls so they'll not cry,
And toss the dice until we fly,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows.

We'll dance all night until the moon runs free,
And dandle the lasses upon our knee,
And then you'll ride along with me,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows.

We'll sing all night, and drink all day,
And on the girls we'll spend our pay,
And when it's gone, then we'll away,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows.

There's some delight in ale and wine,
And some in girls with ankles fine,
But my delight, yes, always mine,
Is to dance with Jak o' the Shadows.

[A pause and a slight exhale, before continuing under his breath.]

We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
And follow l-young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows.

[He clears his throat and when he speaks it's at regular volume.]

It looks like a lot of people here are having to face Jak o' the Shadows now. I'd like to help catch whoever is doing it.

Yeah. Ky mentioned the Defense Force to me not long after Rand and I got here. I think we'd need to talk to...Serph if we want to actually join for longer than just until we catch the flaming guy. [At least he knows it's not a gholam....]

It is sounding like they could use the help, lately.

[Not just with this murderer-kidnapper, but there have been other incidents.]

[He nods, then remembers Perrin can't see that right now.]

Yeah. You'd think a place this small wouldn't have as much trouble as it does...but I guess size doesn't have as much to do with it as the flaming people.

Those who brought us here don't seem to like things settling down.

[Admittedly he hadn't spoken to a great many people here, but it didn't seem like any among them had led simple or normal lives. There was something remarkable about most of them, and even without any murderous intent, that didn't make for a peaceful environment.]

[He chuckles.]

And the people they bring here don't seem to like letting it settle down.

[Since the three of them were brought here, he has this feeling all the people he hadn't spoken to have something that makes them...different.]

...I think some of us do, and some of us don't.

[He thinks perhaps he and Mat fall into those separate categories.]

[Mat thinks about the same thing. He may not like being a general, but he's certainly used to it now.]

I think you're right. Some people find the quiet nice, and some wonder when the next flaming thing is going to pop up.
