1st Combo - [video]

[The video comes on in a jolt of motion, which stills to a skewed image of pavement, buildings, and a soaking wet teenage boy clad in red and black lying on the ground. He winces as though he'd just hit the ground. Hard.]

Oww...

[Pushing himself up off the ground, he rubs his head.]

Is everyone all...

[Wait. Something's wrong. He looks around the plaza with clearly growing alarm, but still not at the SFC.]

Guys? Where is everyone?

[And where in the world is he?!]

[OOC: I'm up for action or network replies. Either works for me!]

[That sure is a newbie, boy because THIS doesn't get old.]

You're in Watheon, you can't leawe, enjoy your stay.

[Isn't he the best person to have greeting you?]

[Equius has been keeping himself busy on the rooftops of Vatheon; he's trying to figure out a way to make a flying robot, and has been testing various wing designs. He's found one that works fairly well, after going through several prototypes, and watching it zip along between the gabled rooftops excites him. He gets so excited that he forgets he's walking around on top of buildings, and one misstep later, he's plummeting towards the ground.]

[Right towards the soaked human in the red coat.]

Get out of the way!

[Lloyd starts in surprise and whirls around - but there's no one there. At least, no one anywhere as near as that voice had sounded.]

What? Who-

[Then his eyes land on the SFC and he jerks back, his hands dropping to the hilts of his swords.]

Aw man, what's a starfish doing in a city?!

[Best person to be the first person to greet him. The best.]

[Lucky for them both - or, well, him at least - he's got good reflexes, and that yell is (just barely) warning enough. With a startled yelp, he throws himself to the side just in time for a-

-gray person?-

-to just graze him, instead of colliding with him head-on. Lloyd staggers and stumbles.]

Whoa!

What.

Are you retarded? This isn't a starfish--well, it's a starfish communicator [The more you know!] but it's not a REAL starfish!

Anyway. I'm Eridan Ampora an' you are?

[The starfish is talking to him. And it's got a little gray face.

And it's insulting him.

This is so weird.]

H-hey, I'm not retarded! It's not my fault if I haven't seen a starfish like you before!

[But only because you introduced first.]

[Equius lands heavily beside the human. He's unhurt, of course, but he could feel the human graze past him, and that's worrisome. That could mean broken bones. He slowly stands, and looks at the other boy.]

Are you all right? I didn't hurt you, did I?

[Sorry, Lloyd's caught staring for just a moment. He's never seen anyone like Equius before.]

Huh? Oh, yeah, I'm fine.

[Just rubbing his arm.]

What about you? Uh, are you all right?

[You hit the ground pretty hard.]

Starfish like m--OH MY GOD. I am NOT a starfish, holy shit! I am a troll! This is a communicatin' dewice!

[WOW. He has not dealt with someone this stupid since--Well, Gamzee, but still. Holy fuck, how dumb do you even have to be???]

[Equius notices how Lloyd is dripping wet, and gets a towel from his sylladex and offers it.]

You're new, aren't you?

But you look like a starfish. Are trolls starfish cousins?

[He's encountered monsters like that before, ones that look a lot like others but are still different. Professor Raine always made him take notes. Ugh, homework.

Speaking of... He darts a nervous glance over his shoulder as though half expecting his teacher to show up. No sign of her, though, which is a relief - he does not want to take notes on this guy - as well as worrying. Where is she?]

...what do you mean, "communicating device"? You mean that you can speak?

Um, are you... alright?

[H-holy shit.. LLOYD?!]

Hold on, Bud! Just stay there!

[There's a sickening blur of motion on the screen for a moment as Zelos jumps up and tears out the door before remembering to turn the feed off.]

[Lloyd nearly fumbles the towel, paying more attention to Equius than what Equius is handing him. Oh, hey, yeah, a towel would be nice.

When did he get wet? He starts patting himself dry.]

Thanks. Yeah, I... Where am I? I don't think this is where I was supposed to go.

[Zelda looks up as Zelos goes tearing out of the house. Well then. He'll explain himself later... possibly.

He was moving so quickly that some of her papers shuffled around!]

If it were possible to kick up dust in real life due to the speed of one's running, Zelos would have been trailing a veritable sandstorm as he careened through the streets of Vatheon, tearing through the middle district and up to the plaza, completely unheeding of anyone in his path.

He's not sure how he feels about it, his Bud, his best friend being pulled from their world into this place full of experimental curses and crazy aliens, but he can't help being glad to see him as he makes it to the coral and finally lays eyes on the red-clad swordsman in person for the first time since he'd been so rudely transported from Aselia on the night of the banquet.

He stood a bit off, panting. He had to catch his breath, he'd need to explain a whole lot.

"Lloyd!"

[Lloyd straightens up, still rubbing his head, and turns to look the person who just spoke to him.]

Yeah, I'm okay. Where am I? And... did anyone else just come through here?

...I'm afraid you are the only one. And this place is called Vatheon.

Hearing Zelos's voice was enough to startle Lloyd out of staring at his surroundings. He almost sagged with relief - his friends were here - but when he turned around?

Nothing. Nothing but unfamiliar buildings and people too far away to really see except to know they weren't his friends.

"Zelos?"

Unfortunately, Zelos's feed was already off. No answer. Lloyd turned again, worry mixed with annoyance.

"Zelos, come on, this isn't funny! Where are you?"

If this was Zelos's idea of a joke-

Aw crap, starfish!

When Zelos showed up shouting his name, Lloyd didn't turn this time. He was too busy facing down the starfish on the ground, both swords drawn.

"Zelos! Watch out!"

Dammit... Where could they have gone?

[He lets out a frustrated, worried breath, then focuses back on his other problem.]

Vatheon? I've never heard of that.

[Which doesn't necessarily mean anything. He's, uh, doesn't exactly pay the best attention during school.]

What other cities is it near?

Was he... seriously? Lloyd may be a wonderful, kindhearted, heroic kid but he definitely wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed... though come to think of it, Lloyd's SFC was bigger than his sleek little pink model, and kind of looked like one of those pain in the ass Starfish monsters you got sometimes in Sylvarant.

Maybe he could have some fun with this.

Putting on his best imitation of a high-pitched lady's voice (and he'd had plenty of examples), Zelos threw his voice to make it seem like it was coming from Lloyd's SFC.

"Oh please~ Don't hurt me~!"

Ah, n-no... you see, this is a city in a different world. We.re all trapped here.

_{[He frowns, now looking worried.]}

...I'm sorry.

Alaksfjaslk starfish weren't supposed to scream! Lloyd nearly fumbled his swords in shock. Not only screaming, but speaking. Pleading for its life!

"Wh-what? I wasn't- But you-"

How do you respond to that?

"You were going to attack me first!"

Zelos? Temporarily forgotten.

A different world? You mean, different from Tethe'alla or Sylvarant?

[Surprised - but not disbelieving.]

What do you mean, we're trapped?

Oh Spiritua, was he actually buying this? It was too good. Zelos decided to keep going with the gag.

"No, no! I simply wanted to ride in your pocket! You don't know how lonely it is, being the only pain in the butt starfish monster than can speak!"

Okay, so he'd lost it a little bit at the end there, sounding slightly like laughter, but you try keeping up the charade with Lloyd believing every word of this ridiculousness!

"Oh, who is that incredibly handsome and talented redhead behind you? Surely he must be some kind of heavenly gift to the world~!"

And with that Zelos simply collapsed into a pile of laughter.
