[ Looks like someone's feeling a little on the pensive side today. He's at the clinic as usual, lightly tracing the top of his desk with a finger before taking a sip from the coffee he had nearby. ]

Two years. Odd how time flies without anyone truly noticing.

[ Another pause, another sip. ]

There are only a handful of us who have been here this long, I believe. Vatheon has changed quite a bit in this time.

[ There's a small laugh though. ]

I wonder how many of you remember fairies...?

The fairies disappearing was quite a recent occurrence, really. The city's changed quite a bit in the two years I've been here.

The elevator was a recent development as well. No one knew of the island before then. The church we lost a while back and Doctor Alpha disappeared a year ago, I believe?

The city's grown on me, I must say. You learn to live with it, this new world. And you?

I'm adjusting. There are many things I've learned here that I never would have known back home. I'd love to be able to take back some of the medical knowledge I've picked up in particular. We are somewhat primitive on the science and technology front.

I've come to think of this as a learning experience myself. However, I'm certain my colleagues and I would be more than happy to share our knowledge with you if you'd like to come by the clinic.

[ And a bit of a small smile for that. Ah, Demyx. Come to think of it, you're also probably the oldest one he knows here. And... he remembers that time you caught sight of him after a killing spree gone awry. ]

We arrived perhaps mere hours of each other, I believe? You'll have to pardon my sudden nostalgia.

It was once mandatory that each newcomer came with a fairy. Nothing quite so obvious or distracting... they would never respond and you could never catch them.

[ A pause. ]

They exploded, however.

Oh? Was it mandatory then? How interesting... I have never seen a fairy before, though, to be honest. But I would suppose that indeed they are hard to catch.

Time flows irrelevant to the real world, as I've come to realize. The first time I'd left my beloved on the prow of the Queen Camilla... and then I returned. The second time was after my laboratory was set ablaze.

Perhaps you can say I am... this city has been nothing but a font of learning opportunities for me.

Such a long time. [ no need to announce who he is; the doctor should very well be able to recognize his voice by now. it's rather distinct. ] And how much more do you know about the city now than you did back then?

[ he's actually heard about the fairies before, of all things. ]

[ Well someone's feeling lazy. No, no introductions are necessary here. They've gone past that. ]

One I find rather surprising myself. I never thought I would be here so long. However, I did return home for a time.

[ A pause as he considers this. ]

Much more, I believe. I've learned to hold a measure of skepticism with the locals and that quite anything can happen when you least expect it.

[ after Ciel's spent a night in his bed? they'd better have. ]

Ah, yes. You've told me about that.

[ there might be some noise that sounds rather like rustling sheets as he shifts, turning over from his stomach onto his back, holding the SFC close so that he can speak into it. ]

I am glad to know that at least some things have come to light between now and then. But I must wonder why they've kept you and a few others around so long, doctor, when most seem to come and go so quickly?
