[It seems one could miss an awful lot in only two weeks. Awkward curse withstanding - Guy wasn't really concerned about a few cats and dogs loose around the streets - it sounded as if the general aura of suspicion and fear that had plagued so many people in the city had finally lifted. A little bit, at least. A killer confessed, was located, quarantined... and punished, as far as Guy could tell. Well. If one could call it a punishment in any sort of the word.

Hmm.

He'd already received plenty of varying information in the last couple hours from both Zelda and Zelos, but Guy was curious about something else entirely. Something a little different than raw facts. The ideas he'd received from the two Ordo housemates was contrasted enough, so to the network he goes.]

It seems things have been busy the last couple weeks, huh? Not gonna lie, it's nice to see people a little more secure for a change. No more reason to jump at the shadows, right?

[Should he sound remorseful? He doesn't. He only agreed to the brief house arrest to keep order, he absolutely does not believe that he did the wrong thing. The Head Nurse blinding Riffael only gave him a sense of satisfaction that Lloyd would be safe, he felt no pity.]

[The voice is vaguely familiar, but Guy can't quite pinpoint it. No matter, though.]

...I think so. It's the best we can do right now without hurting him all the way.

[And besides, how can she blame him? A small part of her wants to scream out saying that he deserves to be punished but...that just wasn't right. Plus, Bianca didn't believe that violence would solve anything...this was the best way]

[He was hoping one of the victims would show up... and it's about what he expected from Bianca. A little soft around the edges.

If he had to be punished anymore than this - more than just losing his eyesight, I mean - do you think that would be fair?

[ It takes Duke some time to even focus properly on this and decide how he felt about it. ]

At times. At times, wish had done something more. Usually when jumping at things that should not make jump. Think that is the angry-stupid part.

It must be difficult, huh? No one likes to feel scared, whether or not you know the reason for your fright. [It was hard to watch as well, in a sense. He'd seen the man curled up in the hallway, casting frightened glances at Zelda that first week after being rescued.]

Even if it's frustrating or stupid, though, do you think that more punishment would fix that? Would it make things feel a little more justified?

I don't. Maybe if it had been the guy who hurt people, but we punished the wrong guy.

Well, that sure wasn't the answer he expected to hear from one of the actual victims, especially seeing how torn Zelos had been about things. Hmm.]

You mean the dual personalities, right? I'm pretty sure that there's only so much that can be done about that.

Still, would you have wanted it avoided all together? Let a guilty man go untouched so an innocent man isn't hurt in the process or something like that?

As well as one can expect here, with no actual justice system in place.

Mmm. It's hard, I guess. We're a huge mixing pot of moral beliefs and backgrounds. I'm surprised that the lack of a common ground along the lines isn't coming back to bite us more often. There aren't many lines drawn.

Well, unless you count those drawn by the scientists. They seem pretty grounded in their justice regardless of what we think.

I-I don't know. I'm used to fighting it out with anyone or challenging them to something, but what they didn't wasn't something like that.

[He's from a world where the most they had to worry about was their hearts being snatched. Nothing really this serious.]

And I don't know if anything would ever help the victims, you know? Would hurting him more or attempting other things help Rinoa sleep soundly? It really won't. And how far until you're pretty much on his level.

So there's no such thing as an eye for eye in this case, as far as you're concerned. [It's a statement, not a question. Even with his indecision, this guy seemed to be thinking a little more outside the box.]

I'm curious, though. If it was a case of just fighting things out, do you think that would really be the best option? Kind of leaving it to a matter of power or strength and letting that solve the problems?

Judging by the 'nurse's' announcement I was expecting something more dramatic.

Blindness wasn't what I was anticipating, and I'm not sure if it goes too far or not far enough. How do you justly punish a person with multiple personalities when one of them is a psychopathic murderer who killed and mutilated your friend?

[The tone isn't angry, it's quite reflective and honestly seeking opinions or conversation about it.]

[Level-headedness is a pretty honorable thing. He appreciates this.]

I'm sure you're not the only one. Still, if they're not wanting us dead, then I guess they have to draw the line for "punishments" somewhere where we can still be... I don't know. Useful, maybe. And I'm sure we're not very helpful to them if we end up severely disabled.

It's a difficult question in general, though, I guess. The mind might have a switch, but you're dealing with one body. And who's to say that both personalities aren't both affected?

[Guess who wasn't told about what happened while she was asleep! It takes a moment for Colette to understand what Guy's saying. No one mentioned that...]

[There's a lot more Ky could say about it, but to some degree what's done is done and either way it isn't enough to be upset over it. He has to do something, somehow, but everything feels more beyond him than it used to.]

While this place prevents death as an option -- and that would be what I'd prefer -- torture is still wrong.

I can't disagree with you for part of that, at least.

While it might be wrong in its extremes, it still might just be more of a restraint in the end than actual torture, you know? Besides, is putting a possibly repentant man to death really any better than that?

[He doesn't want to hear his own answer to that question. Not without feeling he's making a grave mistake towards himself. So go ahead, Mr. Kiske, amuse him.]

[Yuan hesitates for a moment, as he's not entirely used to sharing his opinion on such public matters. However, if he's going to be stuck here, he might as well play nice with the other residents.]

It isn't that he deserved it, it's that it was necessary. Crime without consequence only leads to more crime.

Of course. It's not as if it was something he could just apologize for.

Do you think robbing him of a sense was really a proper consequence for his actions, though? [Not that it was the doctor's choice. Or, well, anyone's choice at all. But he's playing with the hypothetical here.]

I've been hearing what happened to him and in some ways, I do believe he did deserve it. Of course, others would debate and say no.

Are they saying no for the right reasons? It wasn't as if we had any control over what happened to him in the end, after all.

[Zelos' mouth is pressed in a thin line. He hadn't given Guy much of an impression of this thoughts at the house; not with so many there who he tried hard to keep up appearances around, but to Guy alone he doesn't care to conceal that he's out for blood.]

It's too lenient. There's nothing to stop him from finding some means of working around the lack of sight and hurting people again. It's one thing to just be a general murderous jerk, but to target kids? Alternate personality or not, he deserves way worse than he got.

[To say Zelos was negative about the situation was an understatement. Guy already assumed as much, seeing his composure change around the apartment during the last couple weeks. So the vengeful tone that's woven into Zelos' words? Sadly, it doesn't come as too much of a surprise.]

Maybe.

Killing him would just bring him right back in a few days, you know. [Totally aware he's preaching to the choir, but an eye for an eye in a city where the dead never stay dead is tricky enough to figure out.]
