[Motochika's going to assume this has to do with the curse, unfamiliar as the term is and given the timing.]

The Lamufao's power flows through us constantly. That is why the mark we foreigners bear glows blue at the onset of a curse, and why we must come into regular contact with the Lamufao to replenish ourselves.

But who is to say that it knows? You know, so is it not a more likely explanation that the coral merely provoked your memories and insecurities, which just so happened to be this "Galcian"?
