[A flurry of blurred images whip across the screen as the SFC's camera whirls around in a slender pair of hands, finally settling on the worn face of a young man, about 25 in appearance. His eyes are scanning something above the edge of the phone as he surveys his surroundings, his wet clothes giving off an attractive squelch as he moves. He brushes his dripping bangs off his forehead before turning his attention to the communicator.]

Video log one. Date... [Shinra lifts up his wrist and sighs at his now-useless waterlogged watch. That was a gift from Celty, too. He'd have to find a replacement once he got out of this place...if he got out of this place.] Let's go with day one.

I'm trapped in some kind of static bathysphere with no connection to the surface world. While my phone was damaged beyond repair at some point between being in Ikebukuro and...wherever this is, I found this star-shaped cell phone in my pocket that has some kind of connectivity to the rest of this place. I also still have my scalpel, which was nice of whoever landed me here. [He pulls the slim surgical tool out of his pocket and smiles fondly at it.]

If there's anyone out there who knows anything at all about the Black Rider, please contact me as soon as possible. It's of the utmost importance that I find out if she's okay or not.

...Additionally, if anyone knows where I am, [He turns the communicator and rotates in a slow circle, panning across several buildings and the shadowy outline of the Great Lamufao.] I'd appreciate the intel.

[Huh. And she had just been talking with Shizuo about people from home showing up. Of course, the way that he described it Ikebukuro was a big place, but she had to ask anyway...]

I don't suppose you know a Shizuo or an Izaya?

[She planned on answering his questions regardless, but it would be nice to be able tell him that he wasn't alone (if that were indeed the case).]

[His face brightens into an ecstatic grin as he hears the familiar names. Thank heavens someone had found him.]

Yeah, I do! Do you know them? Are they here somewhere? These buildings look too pristine for them to be nearby...

That's certainly true, isn't it! Yes, they're here. You're in the plaza, correct? I'll be down there in a minute. You can read this over while I'm on the way, alright? It's a little outdated, but you can get the general idea.

[She sends him a link to the Welcoming Committee's brochure, pausing only to pick up a couple towels before heading out.]

If this is the plaza, that's where I am! Thanks a ton, I really owe you one.

[He grins at this unexpected turn of events as a link appears on his communicator. He fumbles with the controls before opening the brochure and skimming its contents as he waits.] So this place is called Vatheon, huh...

[Zelda keeps close to the plaza around this time of the month, so she's there within ten minutes, holding a towel out to him.]

It's good to meet you in person. My name is Zelda.

The pleasure's all mine! You can call me Shinra.

[He nods his head in thanks as he accepts the towel and runs it through his dripping hair, leaving him with a spiky mess on top of his head. There's something interesting about this Zelda's features, something he can't quite put his finger on. Maybe it's the hair?]

So I take it you're a part of this...welcoming committee?

[It's probably the ears, Shinra. The ears.]

Shinra. Alright, then. I'm not part of the welcoming committee officially, no. The person who started it is no longer in the city. I'm not sure they really do too much now, but the brochure is helpful.

That it was!

[Shinra's brow furrows with interest as he notices the pointed tips of her ears as she turns her head. This seems like a strange place to indulge in cosmetic surgery...]

'No longer in the city'? So it is possible to leave, then?

[She doesn't actually notice that he looked at her ears, she just flattens them against the side of her head instinctively.]

Not voluntarily, I'm afraid. It's at the whim of whatever controls this place. I would assume that if it sends someone back, it currently has no use for them.

[He purses his lips as any lingering hopes of returning to his cozy flat in Ikebukuro slip away. At least he had someone to throw his wealth of questions at now.]

That brochure you sent me, it mentioned something about that giant coral having special powers, right? How is that possible? I mean, I'm no marine biologist, but isn't it just a big bunch of polyps?

I wish I could tell you. The locals strongly discourage people from studying it. We are expected to touch it once a month, but beyond that...

[Zelda shakes her head.]

It's a powerful magical creature, I know that much. It has healing properties. If that blade is sterile, you could even give yourself a small cut to check.

Well, that's a shame. A quick test might be in order, just to see if this thing is as supernatural as it seems.

[He rests the blade of his scalpel on the broad side of his index finger before pulling it across his skin in a short motion, drawing a beady drop of blood.]

Now what?

Simply touch it.

[She smiles slightly. What a strange man, to actually take her up on the "cut yourself to find out!" bit.]

[He raises a speculative eyebrow as he takes several steps towards the immense coral and brushes it with the tip of his finger. Within seconds his serrated skin seals itself, leaving not as much as a scar. His voice comes out as an incredulous squeak.]

Well. That's, uh, that's something else. Thanks, polyps...

Would you like to get inside, now? You're still rather wet, I wouldn't want you to catch cold. It won't take us all that long to get to Shizuo's place from here.

[Because as much as she likes Izaya, she's noticed that plenty of other people DON'T and she's not going to show up at his doorstep with this guy.]

[So Shizuo has a place down here! He remembers his initial search for other Ikebukurians and smiles broadly in agreement.]

That sounds like a great idea! You lead the way.

Come along, then.

[Zelda heads down to the lower district, to the second floor of the Viscus Apartments. She knocks on Shizuo's door, smiling to herself. Hopefully seeing this man would be a pleasant surprise. He seemed nice enough, anyway!]

[Just as Shizuo is about to light a cigarette, he hears the knock. Setting it on the counter with his lighter, he opens the door. He smiles at Zelda and is about to greet her, when he notices Shinra behind her.]

You're here.

[Okay, so he's stating the obvious and it isn't exactly a hello, but it's not an eruption either! He's just surprised.

Then, because he doesn't want to make them stand out on his doorstep, Shizuo moves aside.]

Come in.

[Could it really be, that his childhood friend had ended up stuck in the same strange bubble he was in? Shinra watches with wide eyes as the front door slowly swings open in reply to Zelda's knock, revealing a wonderfully familiar surly face.]

Shizuo!

[Hardly able to contain himself, he crosses through the doorway and shamelessly flings himself at the bartender, his damp sleeves spattering water droplets in every direction from the sudden motion.]

I don't think I've ever been happier to see you in my life, you old lug, you!

[Oh. Oh! They're hugging! This is good, right? So Shinra is someone Shizuo likes. Zelda's happy she brought him here, then.

But she has to know something now, so she asks as she follows Shizuo's directions and walks inside:]

What is a lug?

[Shizuo had expected Shinra's energy. The doctor was always enthusiatic and, well, happy. Even so, he hadn't expected the hug. He tenses as Shinra latches on, but after a second, relaxes a little and gives Shinra's back a single pat.]

Okay. Get off of me now or I'll break something of yours.

[Then, to Zelda]

It's just a stupid expression.

And here I was, thinking I'd never hear you threaten to snap my bones in half ever again.

[Shinra chuckles at the threat and punches Shizuo playfully in the arm, instantly regretting the move as his knuckles throb painfully. Shake it off, Kishitani.]

A lug, my dear lady, is what you call a tough guy who's really a softie at heart.

[Zelda looks mischievous as she looks at Shizuo, a grin playing across her lips.]

I suppose it is fitting, then.

That's not something you should miss.

[That's a little bit of a huff, but Shizuo has to admit that it is nice to see Shinra isn't deterred by his arrival in Vatheon. Then again, if someone is going to accept the strangeness in stride, it's Shinra. He's probably ready to examine anything he can get his hands on.]

Don't listen to him, Zelda.

[A grumble, but nothing serious.]

Aw, there's no shame in being a big ol' teddy bear.

[He laughs brightly but keeps his distance as he delves further into Shizuo's apartment, just in case. Underwater or otherwise, the bartender's temper can't have calmed that much. Nevertheless, finding Shizuo greatly eases the doctor's concerns; if he's managing to live comfortably in this strange bubble, there can't really be anything immediately bad about it.]

So, how'd you two end up in this place, anyway?
