[Sarah hasn't been hungry or anything: she can easily enough convince the locals to give her the food she likes the taste of, like hot ketchup mixed with orange juice and steak sauce on blueberry scones, but she has started thinking about the fact that many of the people here aren't human. What kind of foods are local to you? Is there anything that you're used to eating that you haven't been able to find here?

Like, I'm from New York, and we've got pretty good bagels there. Which is like bread with a hole in it.

[Bread products are always a safe bet, right?]

I think you can get it here, but I don't know if everyone could find that in their worlds, if they're not from Earth.

Or has there been anything you've never had before you got here that you've found really good?

Recommend me something, from your world or that you've only discovered here, if you feel like it.

I suppose I have mostly found the food supplies I require. [Maybe not quite exactly what he's used to, but fair enough.] I do not find it too bad.

Surely just having what you require isn't the entirety of it.

Well, taste-wise I believe I have not found something quite exactly like English tea... Not to mention there is absolutely no tea-time tradition in this place.

New York's definitely a city that runs more on coffee. But there have to be other people here who enjoy a cup of tea, right?

From what I have heard, Americans did not keep up with the British tea time tradition. I will enjoy coffee from time to time, but tea is definitely my preference.

I don't know how many Americans here there are. Or British. Many of them seem to be aliens. Do they have tea on alien planets?

You know, I've never gave it much thought. The large selection of seafood is not too different from my own home. Eel is pretty good, if cooked properly with a specific sauce.

What is your home? Earth, or someplace else?

I take it somewhere near a coast, at least.

Yes, it's Earth. Japan has a lot of coast, though.

I'm familiar with the country, even if I've never been there.

Earth? Yes, I grew up in Oregon. In the US.

How is it there? I've only been to New York City.

It's a lot slower than New York. Less people.

But I wanted to study mathematics at a university, and there weren't any options near where I grew up.

[There were options closer than New York, but all birds must leave their nests.]

Maybe one day I'll get to visit. Anyplace slower than New York or Tokyo would be a vacation.

It's really interesting. And it lets me take the subject on my own terms, change how I interact to get a solution, because the numbers can't be altered.

That's true. I have a certain level of respect for those that can handle numbers.

I can't say that there are any foods I consider local to me. Bit of a traveler.

I do remember one of my first meals though. It was delicious. I still remember the feeling of contentment and satisfaction. I had found something that had been missing from my life.

Most people have terrible taste in food. Can you believe that some people actually eat apples? Or beans?

Apparently a superior cardiovascular system is not the only thing separating me from humans. I also have a more sophisticated palate.

[Already to the probing each other stage and they don't even know each other's name. Fortunately for her, the Doctor isn't particularly subtle about hiding this kind of information.]

A binary vascular system to be more precise. Two hearts.

Clearly better than one. Never hurts to have a back-up plan.
