[The SFC screen flickers for a moment before revealing a silver-haired, bespectacled individual, who is examining the screen quite intently and presumably also taking a look at all the buttons around it. He appears rather enchanted by all the various functions that the little machine appears to have, but his facial expression snaps to irascible almost instantly, as though he remembers why he turned on this weird thing to begin with.]
There is only one person who would even be able to come up with such an elaborate hoax and pull it over my eyes - you know who you are. And I demand that this person remove this prank right now!
[He is visibly irritated, although more from the fact that he cannot leave this ridiculous made-up world and return to his idea of sanity. The fact that he has to even ask to be released is taking a lot out of his pride, but he's already tried everything. A slight mark on his forehead remains as a trace of such attempts...
Because this place is insane, isn't it? Who is supposed to believe that there exists some city under the sea and in some different dimension? Where is the scientific basis?]
No, I do not buy your silly welcome brochure at all, and the local people wave their hands around the subject just like you do. And I'm playing along with your little game right now so that you can stop this! I expect to wake up back at the lab, in my chair, and respectably dry!
[Because, in case the viewer has not yet noticed, the man is noticeably drenched. His hair is sticking to the sides of his face, and his rather flamboyant outfit's petal-like frills around his collar are flopping around like wilted flowers. His delivery of the last phrase suggests that he rather dislikes his current state with a passion - not only is he wet, but his clothes! Ruined!]
Just you wait! This is definitely going into my revenge journal!
[So, many a dropped hint to a certain individual. Vatheon, perhaps some of you know of whom this poor man speaks of?]

Well, perhaps if the prank was orchestrated by you. But don't act like you're the pitiful excuse for a mastermind! Where is he?
[This man can't be that silly not to know who he's talking about, right? He wants answers. Now.]
Your guess is as good as mine. Mr. Restless Genius isn't really social. Sorry.
You could try making a house call.
[Of course he doesn't believe that the blond doesn't know where Jade is. This is just some large elaborate hoax on him, it has to be. And he's not really in the mood to jump through hoops like 'making a house call'... whatever that is.
Also, he's soaked and needs to dry off - he reaches off-screen and brings in a towel, glaring in the direction he had reached as if to shoo off someone. Stop staring, move on...]
But if you don't want to believe me, then okay; don't.
Hmph! Very well, I shall deign to accept your terms this time. Now explain what place this is, then!
This city's name is Vatheon. Almost all of the people you'll see around here have been, for lack of a better word, kidnapped from their own worlds and forced to live here. The only way in or out is through that coral behind you-- [That big, bright, glowing thing that he can see in the back of the video screen, at least.] -- and the only people that know exactly how that coral works aren't exactly the type to be talking freely. All we know about them are that they're scientists of some sort, and that what goes on this city is... well, an experiment. What kind of experiment, no one really knows. But these people have the power and resources to keep this place running and to import and export people from different universes constantly. Even people of the same universe can be snatched from different points of time.
Ah-- [Running a hand through his hair, since augh, this was always kind of hard to explain--] --for example. What are some of the last significant things you remember, back from Auldrant?
At the other's question, Dist thinks about it for a moment, a thoughtful look passing his face.]
Hmm... well, I was just released from the Grand Chokmah Penitentiary. By Peony... [And, of course, there's absolutely no move made to hide his disgust.] I was supposed to resume my research on fomicry, of all things! But how did they expect me to do anything with people hovering over my shoulder all the time? A genius needs his space - his personal laboratory! Of course, those of lower intellectual strata wouldn't understand that at all...
[video] and suddenly the CP difference is obnoxiously clear
[See, Dist, being healthily positive is possible; you could totally do that.]
I'm curious, but do you know if Van was the one who authorized your release?
[video] that cray cray man pls is what he means to say
[Nope.
He does raise an eyebrow at the suggestion that's brought up, though. Which is then followed by a laugh.]
Van? Why would a dead man have any authority over my life? Unfortunately, some people decided that my life now belongs to Malkuth instead of the Order. Like they have any say in that!
[Wait, wait, back up a second. No. Van had never--]
Are you sure?
[Although... thinking back on what he said earlier about the coral and its weird effects on pulling people...
Well, then.]
[Because that was better than saying he doesn't remember that happening at all. Blame it on the coral while he takes a second to process it. Best plan.]
Anyways, regardless of who was behind that, congrats on your freedom, I guess. I hope you weren't planning on getting Luke involved with your research again.
[A brief pause. Dist recalls that conversation he had with Jade about the perfect isofons, the Big Bang - ]
As much as I would love to have examined him further, don't tell me that both the original and the replica being dead has also slipped your mind. I won't have you mocking me!
[But really, the effects of this city are quite fascinating - to pull people from different chronological locations!]
[video] 1/2
Dist has to be lying. Either that or he'd been cooped up in that prison for far too long. He has to be. Unless things had completely fallen apart with the world, Luke shouldn't have... he couldn't have...
But what if he isn't? The timelines that people were pulled from were so unpredictable. Ion had already died, in a way that had never been truly explained. Guy knows he had yet to experience that, but the Ion that he had met here solemnly insisted that it was true. So if that was possible, then... was Van really dead, then? Or would he die? Van and Asch and...
Luke.
The flickers of a conversation Guy had pried out of Jade come to mind. One where Jade had mentioned Luke was no longer present. He still had yet to explain what he meant by that.
Could that really mean... Luke was dead?
His mind suddenly burns with questions that he's not positive he should voice. How? Why? Was anyone around to stop this? Was there nothing that could have been done? How far from the future could Dist be to make claims like this...?
...]
[video] 2/2
No, I don't mean to mock you. Sorry. Like I said... things can just really slip your mind around here.
You should be able to continue your research here. Fontech isn't as readily available or powerful. But I'm sure you could work around it.
[His voice suddenly seems tired. But he doesn't want to talk about it.
Not with Dist.]
Of course I can work around it! You forget who you're speaking to - the genius technician, Dist the Rose!
[And that pause certainly doesn't go unnoticed, either. Well, he knows that the replica meant a lot to their little gang - even to Jade, to Dist's annoyance.
He doesn't bring it up any more, though. Not because he's being considerate, but because he doesn't want to be someone's shrink about the issue and have to hear all the 'problems' about it.]
Well? Is there already existing fontech here? Or space for me to construct my lab?
[Oh, and resources... he glances around him, wondering just where all this stuff comes from if they're actually underwater.]
Not exactly - this isn't Auldrant, after all. But it's not impossible to adapt what technology is sold in shops and make it work.
Most of the raw supplies I've found are over in the Nostalgia Nook, down in the lower half of the city. If you're looking for extra space, that's probably where you'll want to head, anyways. Most of the larger buildings that aren't already occupied will be down there. You shouldn't have a problem finding adequate lab room. I think there might be an abandoned lab down there, too...
I see...
[He looks off-screen, brooding to himself for a few moments before turning back to face it.]
Very well! I shall be the one to ascertain whether any of your suggestions hold any worth.
[He's about to turn off the screen and just leave the blond now that he had no more use for conversing with him, when he remembers one more question - ]
Are there... any more of you pesky folk here?
[Have an easy smile.]
I'm sure you'll be fine, though.
[Dist narrows his eyes, because that smile is really, really suspicious. If they're not pesky, then they must be downright annoying...]
Just His Majesty, Emperor Peony.
[He's not pesky at all, right? Cheer up, Dist.]
[Wait.
Wait.
Did he just say... Peony?
A silence passes as Dist tries to process what he just heard. Not only is he trapped in this fontech-forsaken excuse for a city, he has to deal with him?]
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! [A bloodcurdling screech leaves his mouth, probably threatening to blast the speakers on Guy's SFC. Because of all the insufferable worms, it had to be the one who thinks he can be all chummy?]
If anything, he might have expected that reaction on hearing about Jade. But the Emperor?]
Hey, geez -- he can't lock you up here like he did in Grand Chokmah, so what's the big deal?
[Because no, he certainly wouldn't understand the kind of agony that Dist went through at the hands of Peony. Ignoring the fact that he got locked in a dark and completely uncomfortable prison, there are still a plethora of things that Dist can recall having been instigated by that carefree, brainless excuse of a being.
Oh, he has grievances regarding Peony, all right.]
Besides, who's to say that he won't find some other way? Not that he'd get past my genius...
[Peony has that aggravating ability to make things... happen.]
[video] Lol keywords
[Guy doesn't understand a reason why the Emperor should, anyways. Not unless he was feeling particularly mean-spirited... and that seemed more along the lines of Jade's work, not Peony's.]
And if he isn't going to get past your genius, then why worry about it, anyways?
