Day 289 - [Video | Open to Action]

[The face of a boy about 7 years old appears on the SFC; the blond hairstyle and clear blue eyes make him pretty recognizable-- at least to others. He's still in his pajamas, the T-shirt now especially oversized, but his pants at least have a drawstring! Roxas himself looks lost and confused, but not really frightened.]

Is this a walky-talky? Hello?

[He frowns a little at the unfamiliar sound of his own voice and tries clearing his throat to no avail.]

I think I'm on another world. There's all these tall buildings out the window. Riku, are you here, too?

[Another pause as he notices his bangs and pulls them farther down in front of his eyes.]

Someone did something funny to my hair...

((Roxas has been a victim of the mental change as well... which means he has the memories of a seven-year-old Sora. Oops.))

I'm not old. You're just...small. [ He hasn't even made it out of his room yet, so he doesn't know if this is just a Roxas thing. Or if it's a Sora and Roxas thing. ]

...where are you right now?

I'm not that small! [Don't offend his seven-year-old pride.

At the question, he looks around.]

I'm in the room where I woke up. There's somebody with red hair asleep next door but it's not Kairi.

Axel. [ He shakes his head as if to brush off whatever else he wants to say. Seems like a curse. Right? But if Roxas doesn't even remember that - and he's being overly friendly with him - that means there's probably more to it. Riku feels oddly responsible considering; if he let anything happen to Roxas, he's sure Sora would be very upset with him. ] Stay there, okay?

I'll come get you.

Axel...

[Nope. No bells.]

Okay.

[ Usually, he'd take his time. Maybe look in on Sora (just in case), take care of the pets they'd acquired. But this appears a bit more serious than any of the curses he's been subjected too since he's been here. So, he shows up pretty quickly, catching his breath - no, he didn't run there - before quietly knocking once.

It's weird how he knows the address despite the fact he's never been there before. Riku idly blames that on Sora as he waits. ]

[On hearing the knock, Roxas at first just pokes his head out of his bedroom and peers towards the door to the apartment. Then he realizes it must be Riku since Riku said he was coming, and he hurries over-- well, as best he can in his rolled-up pant legs.

He pulls the door open and looks up. ... And then up some more.]

How did you get so tall?

[ Riku glances down, and... Had they both been that short as kids? He doesn't remember. ]

I grew up. [ A shrug. ] You should put some clothes on, Roxas. Unless you're going outside like that.

[Roxas glances down at himself and then back up at Riku.]

I don't have my clothes.

Why're you calling me "Roxas"?

[ Hesitant at that, he just looks at him. ]

...what do you think your name's supposed to be?

[Roxas gives him a funny look and pushes at his arm.]

Did growing up make you forget stuff? It's Sora!

[ ... He is not going to panic. He's not. Riku doesn't know what to react to first though: the casual touching or the fact he thinks his name is Sora. There's a long pause between Roxas' answer and his own, trying to figure out what he should do. He should have assumed something was wrong when the other boy had actually asked for him by name. ]

A lot's happened since then. [ A good start. Maybe. ] You're Roxas now.

[Roxas's little brow furrows in confusion.]

What do you mean? I was Sora when I went to sleep...

And you weren't so big. And my hair wasn't yellow and I was in my room and my pajamas fit.

[That really is a lot that happened since he went to sleep!]

Trust me, okay? It's hard to explain... [ He pauses, biting at his lip when a thought strikes him. It might work? Possibly. ] But I guess it's kind of like magic.

[Roxas chews on his lip for a moment. Magic does seem about the only thing that could be behind all this, but he's not sure why he has to change his name.]

Is it like a disguise? How come you're still Riku?

[There are some faerie tales where it's important to keep your name a secret...]

Because... [ He's honestly not sure what to tell him. Did kids always ask these questions? Why did he feel the need to make up some story rather than tell him the truth anyway? Riku idly rubs at his arm, stopping when his hand runs over the the band he wears on his left forearm. Well— ]

I was wearing this. [ He pushes the sleeve of his jacket up and tugs the thing off, mouth thin as he offers it to him. ] It'll protect you until I figure out how to fix what's happened.

[Roxas accepts it almost reverently. It~~'s distinctly lacking in checkers~~ doesn't look like much, but it's Riku's and Riku says it's magic so it must be.]

You sure you don't need it?
