[Davesprite's having a bit of a freak out. He's five years old and he's pretty sure he isn't supposed to be orange. He's also pretty sure he shouldn't be part crow and have a ghost tail. And these are definitely not the sunglasses Bro gave him! This isn't even the apartment he lives in!

Speaking of his big brother, looking around his apartment has told him nothing about his whereabouts. Dave is about ready to cry from all this overwhelming strangeness, but he doesn't because he's a Strider and Striders don't cry.

So, he turns to the thing that looks like a starfish walkie-talkie and flips it on to whatever setting. Maybe someone can help him find Bro. As long as he has his big brother around, he'll be fine.]

H-hello? Has anyone seen my big brother?

[He'll agree with Dirk on that.]

Thanks, Dirk. I think I see your house, now.

Okay.

[If Dave's almost here, then Dirk can finally leave his room and brave his way through the house to the front door. He's been bundled up all day, since getting lost up on the island this morning, so the first look Davesprite is likely to get of him is of him in an oversized ironic sweater.]

[Davesprite floats on over to him, putting away his SFC in the process.]

Cool sweater.

[And he's being sincere about that.]

[Dirk nods, awkwardly, and pushes open the door to let Davesprite in. At this point, he doesn't mind what's cool, as long as it's warm.]

I was on the island before. It was snowing.

[He goes on in.]

Really? I guess it's cold enough for it. I don't see snow very much back home.

[There is a smuppet sitting on the T.V. and staring toward the door. And an empty wine bottle by the couch.]

I didn't either. There used to be some that would land on the roof sometimes, but never that much.

[Good thing he's not yet at the stage where puppets freak him out.]

Yeah. It wouldn't stick or it'd go 'way too fast. Who else lives here?

Roxy and Jake and Jane.

[He's seen Roxy, and Jake almost fell out of a tree on top of him. It doesn't really change the fact that he's living with people he doesn't know, in his current timepoint.]

Jake and Jane?

[Dave doesn't know anybody, either, Dirk. Join the Lonely Strider Club.]

I dunno. I guess they're Roxy's friends. And mine?

[He shrugs.]

It's weird.

Do you wanna be their friends?

They're just weird.

[Jake dropped out of a tree in front of him and then started carrying him with no warning. It was kind of startling.]

[gj, Jake, traumatizing a child like that.]

Whaddyou think of 'em?

[Jake is the best at kids.]

They're not bad. Just noisy. I think Jake carries guns with him everywhere.

[Dirk glances toward the kitchen, then back at Davesprite.]

D'you want soda?

Swords are better.

Yes, please! ...As long as it's not diet.

[Ugh, does he hate diet sodas.]

[Dirk makes his way to the kitchen, expecting Davesprite to follow along behind him.]

There's no diet. [Dirk had some in his apartment, but luckily for him, there was enough regular soda in the crawlspace that he didn't have to drink it often.

And Dirk pulls open a cabinet, which has wine bottles, soda, and even some apple juice that they got after Dave accidentally wandered into the house.]

[The kid isn't far behind. He notices the apple juice, but he's going to stick with his original choice. That's the polite thing to do, he thinks.]

What's your favorite soda?

Orange soda. [It's said in a 'duh' kind of tone. And it's pretty much the only kind in the house, too.]
