26th Combo - [Video]

[Dirt and cloth cover the SFC's view, darkening it almost to black, until whatever it is moves off the screen - a small sock-clad foot, probably the reason the SFC turned on when its owner stepped on the device.]

Daaaddy... Mommyyyy...

[A young voice, sounding lost and afraid, and a skewed view of a boy who might be three who, judging by his twig- and leaf-covered clothes and hair, looks like he just spent the night sleeping in a bush. He obviously hasn't noticed the SFC yet.]

Daddy, where are you? Mommy, come back! I p'omise I'll be good!

[Her gaze takes in the discheveled state the little boy is in as his words tug on her heart a little. Washu always did have a soft spot for helping children.]

I'm sorry to say your parents aren't here, Little one. Where are you? Maybe I can help you.

[Washu's probably getting plenty of opportunity to indulge in that soft spot right now.]

Huh?

[Lloyd jumps at the voice, turning around and looking for the source of the voice. There's no one there.]

Where'd you go? Mommy?

[That hadn't sounded like his mother, but maybe he can hope!]

[For one very stunned moment, Washu felt like her heart stopped as she was called "Mommy." That.. was something she hadn't been called in a very, very long time and it tugged at her very being. ]

No, I'm not your Mommy. But, I can look after you until we find her.

[Finally, Lloyd's eyes drop to the ground and to the SFC there. His eyes widen, and he reaches down to pick it up.]

How'd you get in the rock?!

[Better keep it to voice; who knows how a child that young might respond to a troll.]

Are you all right, little guy? Do you need some help?

Stop being so loud! Geeze.

[The taller redheaded boy had made his way into the park to escape all the weird people who didn't know who he was and somehow didn't care. It was infuriating, though also a little freeing. If he were honest, though, it's all very frightening. He'd been as far as Flanoir and people had still known him as Chosen there, but here...

Honestly he wishes he could crouch right down there with the brunette and wail for his mother too, only he knows she won't answer.]

It's not a rock. It's called a Starfish communicator. It's like a phone that you can see people on.

[Lloyd looks up, looking almost startled at not being alone anymore. He doesn't know who the redhead is - but what does that matter to him? He gets up, clutching the starfish to his chest like some kind of toy or comfort blanket.]

But mommy an' daddy won't hear me. I gotta be loud so they can.

[Whoa, the star-rock thing is speaking again. There's no picture of someone moving in it, though.]

What happen' to your voice? You sound funny...

[Well, no, not exactly funny, just less like mommy and more like...

Daddy?

It's a star-rock? Did it fall outta the sky? Did you go up inna star when you got too old an' now you falled down again?

[He's intrigued by this seeming explanation. After a moment, he seems to remember that she said something else.]

...what's a fone?

I'm not that old kid.

[She sighs. So much for the moment of adorableness.]

It's a device used for talking to people long distances.

L-Lloyd? You're here too?

[But he looks so small...And he hadn't mentioned his mommy recently. Hadn't she...died?]

I haven't seen your mommy or daddy.

[He smiles softly at the boy.]

Are you lost, young one? Could it be you just arrived?

I'm sorry, I'm not your daddy. But I can help you, if you want it.

I don't think your parents can hear you anyway. There's a lot of kids here without parents who don't know where they are so I think something's going on.

[Why is he trying to explain this to a baby?]

You growed up, though, right? Um... Are you big?

[It's so hard to tell how big she is when it looks like she's smaller than him.

He adds solemnly, in case she needs it clarified-]

Big people's old.

You'll help?

[Lloyd looks at the starfish in his hands with rising hope.]

How?

[Lloyd starts with surprise when he hears his name, looking around until he spots the girl on the starfish.]

Wha... How'd you know my name?

I don't know. I dunno where I am.

[Lloyd's plunked down now with the starfish in his hands.]

Who're you?

[He lifts the device up, peering under it, but nope, no sign of anyone beneath.]

Did the star-rock eated you?

Then where they go? All the parents an' mommy an' daddy?

[He swallows, trying to bite back a sudden and very real fear. His voice thins with sudden stress.]

Did they get hurted by bears?

You might want to revise your perception of "old". You might make some pretty young lady very angry if you call them old.

His voice takes on a scolding tone, much like a child trying to imitate a parent.]

Bears? We're under the ocean, there's no bears.

[Why is everyone so stupid?]

They just didn't show up with the rest of us.
