Just curious, but how many of you here have jobs? A lot of stuff is free, so nobody really has to do anything, but it seems like it'd get boring if there wasn't work to do every day.

[he may or may not be debating doing some real work, after two weeks of being lazy.]

I'll probably look into starting up a church here, if there isn't already one.

[Hubert has some bad memories of churches, unfortunately. Not that he's going to automatically associate Shiro with that incident, but he does noticeably pale for a second.]

... I... know there was talk of an academy some time back, but I never personally looked in to it since my schooling would be over now anyway. You'd have to ask around, regarding that.

[And that's alright. Shiro works with demons, so he knows that not everyone is fond of the church. He tries not to push the whole religious thing on people who don't want it.]

Actually, that's not a bad idea. With how many kids are here, they really should be in school.

[Religion in Ephinea is... strange anyway. In the country of Windor, it's mainly regulated to royal proceedings and sometimes festivals, and for Strahta it's an antiquated concept that only remnants of temples give any clues to.

So even if they talked about it, the ideas would likely go right over Hubert's head. It's more the actual church and the hidden catacombs beneath it that he has awful memories of.]

The problem would be getting them to go, with all of them knowing it's not required.

Bribery usually works.

You would have to have something rather amazing to bribe children in to willingly attending school. I like learning and even I wasn't a fan of my lessons outside training.

Usually money works, but I imagine I wouldn't be getting a stipend to teach. Candy and toys wouldn't work, they can get those things for free here.

[Hmm. This might be tougher than he imagined.]

I suppose I could start with the kids who actually want to learn. Or maybe they would flock to a cool class, like firearm use.

I've taught that class before, so it's nothing new. Start them out with pellet guns, that sort of thing. If they really cared about accuracy handguns would be okay. I can't imagine they'd need anything much stronger than that.

Ahhh... right, yes, you're from a world that doesn't use Artes... though I think I've seen the kind of firearms you're describing. There was a man about my age on the network some months ago practicing with two pistols that took basic ammunition.

It was very interesting to watch. I feel like I've been spoiled a bit by Eleth, seeing things like that.

[Handguns he could understand, they're relatively new even to his world. But guns have been around in some form for centuries.

Also, dual-weilding pistols sounds like someone Shiro knows.]

Not in the same design, no. Our weapons are... varied and unique in design, compared to a lot of others I've seen here. ... except perhaps swords and sabers. Those seem common place across many worlds.

Yes. He introduced himself as... Okumura. Yukio Okumura. Do you know him, Mr. Fujimoto?

[HAHAHA wow this is such a coincidence. Of course Yukio and Hubert would get along, they're so much alike. So yes, Shiro is grinning.]

It's alright. He didn't inherit my dashing good looks, so it can be hard to tell.

[Oddly enough, even though he's adopted himself, the idea that Yukio might be as well doesn't even cross Hubert's mind.]

Well if he inherited your skill with fire arms then you must truly be gifted!

But Yukio is talented anyway, he would have become great even without my help.

Building off of your skill couldn't have hurt, though. I admit to a bit of envy - I had multiple teachers during my time in training, but much of my own skill was honed without their aid, over hours spent at the practice fields and out in the desert.

It would have been nice to have a more dedicated helping hand...

Well, what kind of weapon do you use?

It's called a dual blade, though the name is a bit deceptive.

It seems too straightforward to be deceptive. Is that where you use one sword in each hand?

[Admittedly swords are not Shiro's best weapon, but he knows enough about them.]

Yes, but there's more to it than that. Really, it's multiple weapons in one, and difficult to master for that reason.

I can see where that would be difficult.

Well, I wouldn't be much help with multiple forms of weapons, but I'm sure you could work it out through practice.

Oh I mastered it long before now.

[So much for humility.]

I'm just fearing my skills are going to pot. As dedicated as I can be... practicing isn't something easily done without a proper target or targets. Artes aren't something that you can just throw at a stationary targets and consider it worth the effort.

If it's targets you need, I'd be happy to provide.

[He's got a son and a not!son that are both Knights, and then there's himself.]

Swords aren't my best area, but I think I would be a suitable target. I should stay in practice anyway, since ammunition is limited here.
