W-eeeellll, I never said there wasn't any room for punishment, here. Just that he's not perfect, and that you should understand that he's going to have his moments, like we all do. Reacting to it as strongly as you are now isn't going to help things in the least.

He's mature enough to accept responsibility for his irresponsibility. Bring up that if he's going to act like a teenager, he's going to be punished like you would be if you had done this. And then come up with an acceptable punishment.
