[When Johnny turns on the video he's sitting at the counter in his kitchen wearing a pair of large-framed square glasses, surrounded by egg cartons. All but two are empty and those two look normal, except half of one carton features a myriad of brightly colored eggs.
Beside the cartons are six short glass cups each filled with a different vibrant color.]
Good morning, Vatheon.
Some of you may not know and others may have forgotten, but today is the Easter holiday on Earth.
It's technically there for the religious significance behind it, but that's not the part most people remember it for. You see, there's a tradition where people color eggs with dye like this and then, once they're dry, you're to hide them so your children can go on a hunt for them.
Of course there's an incentive for this egg hunt, the reward for collecting all the eggs is a basket of chocolate and candy.
[He takes a moment to fish a now yellow egg out of one of the glasses and plops it into the one with red liquid.]
I've made quite a few of these today and, some of them, I've stashed around the bubble. No where too obscure like on rooftops or anything, but they are hidden. If you find one of these eggs, let me know and I'll be happy to make whatever sweet thing you so desire. Hopefully that's comparable to a basket of goodies.
[He fishes the egg back out which is now a light red-orange color (those dyes are never perfect) and he sets it in the carton to dry.]
I don't know if anyone else had a similar idea, but all of the ones I've hidden are an orange color like that one.
Happy hunting!
((OOC:If you want your character to find an egg of Johnny's, go for it, there's no cap on how many can be found.))

This is the project you were talking about yesterday?
[He peers closely at a gradient yellow to green egg.]
Are they special eggs? Will the chicks come out all colors if a cucco sits on them?
no subject
He smiles and shakes his head.]
No, there will be no chicks coming from these eggs. And even if there were, it's only the shell that's stained.
no subject
[He smiles gently at Johnny, still a bit sensitive to something being not quite right but he's loathe to mention it.]
Can you show me how to color one?
no subject
[He motioned for Sola to take the chair next to him and retrieved a new egg which he handed to the hylian.]
What color do you want to make it?
no subject
[Johnny should have expected that. Sola really likes green.
He looks up at his matesprit excitedly as he climbs into the chair, expression not dissimilar to an eager puppy.]
Oh! Can we put gold patterns on it too?
no subject
Sure, we'll just need to dye it and let it dry first.
[He reached for the green dye cup and pulled it closer before taking the wire dipper out and offering it to the hylian.]
Put the egg on this and lower it into the glass. Be gentle with it, the egg is cooked, but it can still crack.

Egg dying is serious business!]

Plus, egg shells are easily stained!

[And off she goes, heading for Casa de Johnny. When she arrives, she knocks first before opening the door.]
Hello~

[The vampire comes to meet her when he hears her walk in and motions for her to follow him into the kitchen where he pulls a chair out for her.]
Welcome to egg-coloring 101.
Did you have a color in mind?
no subject
[She takes the proffered seat and looks in awe at all the colors and eggs.]
no subject
Green, blue, red, yellow, violet, and pink. Orange isn't so easy a dye to deal with, so it's better to just dye the egg twice for that one.
[He held up one of the spare wire dippers that wasn't in one of the glasses so she could see it.]
You just put the egg on one of these and lower it into the dye. Then all you have to do is wait!
no subject
[She does as instructed, plucking up an egg with the wire dipper before contemplating a color. For now, she'll go with blue, and she slowly lowers the egg in.]
How long does it take?
no subject
[He chose another egg and dipped it into the purple.]
You can put designs on them too. There's markers made just for food that you can use that won't spoil the egg.
no subject
[Asked with wide, perplexed eyes as she keeps her egg in the dye.]
no subject
Sometimes! It turns them colors and since it's only food coloring, people think it's fun to eat them.
[He reached for the egg he'd put in the dye and fished it out so he could set it back in the carton.]
Yours is probably ready as well, unless you want a darker color.

[That was why he was painting eggs. That war comment, though...]
Would you mind if I asked which war you're referring to?

Leave it to the Catholic priest to not keep track of when an important Catholic holiday is.]
Damn, I should've been paying more attention to that.
no subject
It's all right, with hardly any sort of religious structure, I imagine it's quite easy to forget. Besides, it's not one this place celebrates so it's not like there was warning.
no subject
It's hard to keep track of the moon cycles underwater, too.
no subject
Very true. I could make you a calendar, if you'd like.
I've learned how to measure time without one, but I can loose track of it without one, so I made one shortly after arriving here.
[There were some advantages to having been born in the 14th century.]

Ah, I apologize, I don't believe we've met. My name is Johnny Rayflo.

[Ky's lonely, and it hurts not to be able to go to mass, in a way he doesn't fully know how to account for.
He forces a smile.]
I'd appreciate it, if you haven't made yourself too busy.
Of course. Should we meet somewhere or just talk over the SFC?

aND MAKING THEM INTO TREASURES,
no subject
The point of coloring them is religious. The eggs themselves represent a tomb, the coloring of them is meant to represent blood, and when you break them open it's supposed to signify resurrection.
Outside of religion, coloring them is for fun and to make them easier to spot when searching for them, as is the hunt itself.
mostly, Easter egg hunts are for children and nothing motivates children more than the promise of candy.
no subject
Hunting for treasure, is always a fun thing to do. Even when there is no candy at the end.
no subject
The game is the best part of the holiday, and the candy certainly doesn't hurt.
Of course, some people skip the hunt entirely and just get the candy.

[Because that is an orange egg right there, and it's got his attention.]
[He smiles, guessing about the orange-thing.]
Orange is important to you and your tribe though, right?

I suppose I've been making Embryon Eggs!
