Kings are Kings. There are seven. The First is the Silver, the Second Gold, the Third Red [He sounds a little proud about that one.], the Fourth is Blue. There's the Green King and another color, but I don't remember which is Fifth and which is Sixth. And the Seventh...

[He looks a little pained.]

The Seventh is the Colorless King.

[Not going to talk more about the Colorless King. He's why he's like this after all.]

Each King can make Clansmen, granting them the aura of their color. For example...

[This'll hurt a little, but it's the easiest way to show the priest. He calls to his tiny flame and makes a red flame appear on a finger.]

I'm a Red Clansman, King's vassal.

[As quick as the flame appeared, it's gone. He can do more with his flames, but it's exhausting and he's already been shot. Best not to risk it.]

So these Kings, they're magicians who can grant their vassals or clansmen magic as well? I've heard of kings dabbling in magic before, but not being able to grant their clansmen or vassals magic.

A King is a King because the Slate chose them, and gave them one color of Aura. If the Slate thinks you are worthy, it makes you a King. You cannot ask it, or try to get it to give an aura to you.

Anna's right. I'm not sure I'd call our Aura 'magic', but maybe that's the closest term where you're from.

The Slate made King a King. I know King can lose himself to his flames and most of the rest of our Clan can too. I can't do much at all without pain or exhaustion.

[So it doesn't really sound like magic to him. Gold Clansmen just get their best talent enhanced to it's maximum potential, so magic isn't quite right.]

That's an interesting world you both live in, especially considering the royalty of your world is not chosen traditionally as other worlds.

Not Monarchs, Kings. Prime Minister ... Mostly in control. People who are not part of King or clans do not really know of Kings or Clans as .. People with power.
