[Dualscar is soaking wet, his hair slicked back by water and wearing no shirt. His fins are quite comfortable, though, settled against the sides of his face in a manner that anyone who knows sea trolls would see means he's content and not agitated.]

So all a this is pretty fuckin' inconvvenient to evveryone. I thought I'd throww it out there that if anyone's got somethin' they need recovvered from their homes, I could make myself and my creww avvailable.

Wwell, good.

[Dualscar falls silent, watching and wishing he could do something to hurry this along. Signless is so patient, and Dualscar has a hard time with that. He's a man of action, and all he's doing is standing around]

Wwhy don't you grab it so wwe can get it back to Jade, then.

I'd frighten it if I did that, and then I'd have a much harder time holding onto it as I climbed back down.

[Sufferer waits a few moments, using one finger to scritch behind the kitten's ear, before trying to gently ease it into the crook of his arm. The kitten tenses as he does, but once it's up against his side, it mews quietly before cuddling up against his heat. Under his breath, Sufferer starts making a low, rumbling sound that he picked up from Disciple long, long ago. It's not quite a purr, but it's close.]

Okay, I've got it. I only have one hand here to get back, so you might need to give me directions from down there.

I didn't mean harshly. [Well, he sort of did. He takes a few steps back] All right, noww followw wwhat I say, then. Be careful, too. I don't wwant you fallin', only on account a I might not be able to catch you.

[In a measured tone, he begins to direct Signless down, telling him where to put his feet and giving him directions for where to hold, with only one hand to brace himself. At least now he feels more useful, and he's not impatient as he directs him. If anything, he rather likes it. Giving orders isn't a thing he gets to do very often these days]

[Dualscar clearly knows nothing about pouncebeasts; if Sufferer had tried to grab it harshly, Dualscar would be seeing plenty of red blood all over the place.]

[Sufferer listens carefully to the instructions, and gets down off the coral without further incident. He grins at Dualscar, and motions towards the bedraggled little black kitten in the crook of his arm.]

We did it.

[That would be bad, yes.

Dualscar approaches cautiously, not wanting to spook the creature. It extends its head as far as its little neck can go, sniffing at Dualscar, and reaches out a paw. Yum. Fish.]

Wwe did! [He grins, then sidesteps the paw and puts his arm around Signless' shoulders] You seemed happy.

[Sufferer eases the kitten away from Dualscar, cooing softly to it. No, kitty, no trying to eat his moirail!]

[He leans against Dualscar, although he glances up at that comment, his expression a little surprised.]

I am happy.

[Reasonably so, at least. He's not the bundle of joy he was as Signless, but he's not wallowing in depression either.]

Wwell good. [He leans down and gives him a pale kiss on the forehead, fondly] I wwouldn't wwant you to be mopin' forevver. You evven called yourself by the right name! I'm glad to hear that.

... what are you talking about?

[He's genuinely confused!]

Just noww. [He's pleased as punch and it's pretty obvious] You called yourself Signless wwhen you wwere callin' to the pouncebeast.

Did I? [Sufferer shrugs, looking a little uncomfortable.] I didn't notice.

[Dualscar nods and gives Signless a squeeze, careful of the kitten.] You did. I wwish you wwere okay wwith it.

[The kitten whines and tries to lunge at Dualscar; he just smells so deliciously fishy, this is cruel and unusual! Sufferer tucks it more firmly under his arm and purrs a little to soothe it.]

That's not who I am anymore.

I don't believve that. [He paps Signless' shoulder, then combs fingers through his curls a little] Someone else wwouldn't be my moirail, especially a highblood-hatin' failure like you think you'vve become. Deep dowwn, you're still you.

[Sufferer shifts, uncomfortable. He knows Dualscar is right, but it's still hard to accept.] We should get this kitten back to Jade. I'm sure he's worried about it.

[He knows that this sort of thing makes Signless uncomfortable, but he persists anyway, believing it is true, and that Signless will be happier when he does accept it.

He gives Signless a squeeze, then moves away before the kitten can lick him]

Yeah, let's get him back. Jade wwill be wwaitin'.

[The kitten yowls unhappily as Dualscar moves away, and Sufferer smiles.]

He really wants to lick you, you know.

I can't think wwhy. [A little grumpy] I think he wwants to eat me, actually.

Maybe! Who knows what goes on in the minds of pouncebeasts?

I'd think Disciple might havve some idea.

She probably does.

[That would normally be a good segue into what they need to talk about, but Sufferer instead starts trying to pick his way through the submerged debris and get back to the elevator. It's much harder this time around, since he has to hold the kitten with one arm.]
