thirtieth flame: accidental video; | memory and balance are tricky things

[Some one's SFC got bumped when their hand was moving around looking for something on a desk in a bedroom. It turns on, and when the hand moves away it looks like it's Rin, focusing on something in front of him. Pen in one hand, some sort of snack in the other, he's mumbling to himself in between jotting things down.

He's trying to remember things he's forgotten thanks to what happened back home. Shiro has been giving him medicine to help with that, but it's still slow going. And awkward, given that there are still people that know him that he can't remember himself.

A few minutes in to the broadcast he doesn't know he's sending, he grumbles, drops the pen and scratches at his head with a groan.]

Damn it. C'mon, Okumura...

[This is frustrating as hell to him. He's recalling things, bit by bit, but he has no control over what comes back, when, and how much.

Sighing, he leans back in the chair, tilting two feet of it off the ground as he cranes his head back to stare at the ceiling, arms hanging loose at his sides.

And then, suddenly--]

... hey! Uwaah!

[He jerks his head up sharply, but as soon as he does the precarious balance of the chair he was in is compromised. His arms pinwheel, attempting to keep his chair from going backwards, but it doesn't work and he goes crashing to the ground noisily. The SFC rattles and goes flying off the desk, landing on the floor next to Rin who is left groaning, holding his already aching head with both hands.]

[Geez, could they sound a little more like a domestic abuse situation?

Yukio's eyebrows furrow as Rin recounts his tale.]

... I don't remember any of that.

[Only if Yukio has actually physically struck Rin--

ohwait.]

Well, yeah. You're from a different version of things.

[Hey man, it's a two way street.

And you don't get to just say something like that as if it makes complete sense, Rin. It's not okay.]

[In his defense the only time he ever hit Yukio was to snap him out of a slump when their entire city was about to be destroyed.

His was justified. Was yours?]

It's just like Bon. You guys went through things I didn't, and the same goes for me, goin' through things you guys didn't.

[Now that he has his memory back, he actually remembers some of those conversations with Bon. Which incidentally makes Rin sound temporarily smarter than his brother.]

It's somethin' to do with the coral, and how it pulls people either from different times, or I guess... uh what's the shit they always go on about in sci fi... time lines? Yeah I think that's it.

[To be fair, Rin did disobey every possible order during the Impure King situation and scare the shit out of his already mentally addled little brother... but every excuse sounds crappy when you put it next to saving the city. :|

Alright, still trying to be less bitchy with Rin, but some of that oft present anger is sneaking back, laced with disbelief. Is Rin serious?]

... So we're from alternate universes. And no one bothered to tell me.

[Exactly.]

... you never talk about anythin'. How the hell was I supposed t' know? The only thing that even clued me in was when you mentioned the Seven Mysteries and that crap about dressin' up in a girl's uniform.

What? I never told you about that.

Huh... ?

... OH! Right that was when you were here before. You uh. Showed up in the girl's uniform.

[You're not helping yourself, Rin.]

I wonder what else I haven't been told because you can't remember which Yukio I am.

[Okay, so he's getting kinda pissy, but this is kind of a big deal.]

... 'scuse me for comin' back with a concussion and a screwed up memory. Don't get pissy with me just 'cause you can't stay in one place long enough for me to keep track of who's said what!

[Which isn't really his fault but... pissy, meet pissier.]

You knew about this before you came back, and I can't control when I come and go any more than you can!

[... This is not how Yukio intended this conversation to go.]

... every conversation we've had since you got back except for the day you go back has been an argument.

[As irritated as Yukio sounds, and as irritated as Rin was a second ago, that admission just comes out quiet and... disappointed.\

He knew, yes, but Yukio never asked and Rin could never find the right time to bring it up.]

It's not like I can really talk to you anymore.

[Rin's admission stuns Yukio into silence. Thinking back on it... he's right. There might be one exception, but the majority of the time he's spent with or talking to Rin has been hostile. It's as Maka said, and even though Yukio went into this conversation intending to be perfectly amiable... they still spiraled into this. And so quickly.

Silence reigns, Yukio's eyes on the floor, the exorcist unsure of how to respond. He can't exactly deny anything Rin's said.]

[He hates the silence more than he hates the arguing, and as difficult it is for him to admit what he's about to, he does speak once it stretches on for too long.]

... you're right, though.

[He glances up with a frown, but that any anger his expression held before has lost its edge.]

Right?

[Sorry, Rin, he's gone and gotten himself lost in that guilt-filled think pan.

[Rin didn't even notice, because even over video he's avoiding Yukio's gaze entirely.]

I should've told you from the start. About that. ... and about Kid, too. There's... a lotta things I shoulda been honest with you about.

I'm... I'm sorry.

[whoa Rin actually apologized for something to Yukio. Without being forced in to it.]

[While Rin's avoiding his little brother's eyes, Yukio's blinking at him with no small amount of confusion in his expression. Rin apologizing isn't really all that shocking a thing (not if you compare the two of them and consider who would be more likely to try and fix the rift between them first), but somehow he still wasn't expecting it.

WELP, since they're already here, and Yukio knows very well that he shoulders at least half of the blame...]

I'm sorry, too. I didn't intend to start an argument.

Yeah, well...

[Rin looks back up finally, smiling weakly.]

I meet you half way with that...

[Cripes, this is the most functional they've been since Yukio arrived. It's the best Yukio can remember them dealing with each other in quite a long time...

He's a little awkward when he speaks again, careful with the tone of his voice so as not to come off as pushy or still angry. He doesn't want to start another fight, but he's gotta ask.]

... Is there anything else I should know?

[He did say he should have been more honest. And that still holds true, even if it's painful to talk about certain things.

Yukio deserves to know, though. He always did; Rin was the one being secretive or omitting facts.

He's quiet, eventually pulling in a breath before speaking.]

I've killed some one.

...

[Now there's something he wasn't expecting to hear.

To his credit, Yukio manages not to gape or stutter out anything terribly insensitive, but it's still a shock. If either of the twins were going to be responsible for the death of another person, Yukio would've been betting on himself. He knows he's capable of it in the right situation. He's seen the darker side of himself more times than he cares to admit to, but Rin...

There must've been extenuating circumstances. Maybe his flames-? Oh, dear.]

[Oops, fiddling with a filter. Regardless of how they act towards each other now, Rin doesn't want Vanitas seeing this conversation.]

I stopped a guy named Vanitas from killin' another kid here, Roxas. It was... sort of an accident? I happened by the place they were at and stepped in to help get other residents out of the shop they were in...

Vanitas decided he needed to get back at me so... he attacked me and two of my friends while we were out one night. He pinned me down and took Kurikara from me and... stabbed both of them with it. He made me watch. And I... snapped.

When I came out of it, Vanitas was dead, half the city was in flames and Maka was huggin' me and tellin' me to calm down...

[Whoa, what? By the sound of it, this... Vanitas managed to make every misstep possible for someone opposite Rin. It's like he was asking to be killed. There's an angry edge to his expression again, but this time it's not aimed at Rin. Not that he's happy about this news, but if he's really honest about it...

Yukio's silent once again, but this time the quiet doesn't last. After a few long seconds the exorcist sighs, troubled.]

Minus the flames... I can't say I would have fared much better in a similar situation.

[Yeah, more or less. Rin still doesn't know what Vanitas' full intent was, but the end result was still the same.]

... glad I'm not the only one then.

[He lets out a breath through his nose, because there is more to this than just the reveal that he's murdered some one in a dangerous, demonic induced rage.]

Since people can't... y'know, stay dead here, he's still around. And I'm not really sure why but he harasses me constantly. I put up with it 'cause I don't wanna go through that again, and he hasn't really attacked anyone since then, but if he's here just... leave him alone. And don't... tell him I told you all this.

I won't tell him anything. I think I'd rather avoid a person like that if at all possible.

[Assuming he's not actively causing problems.]

Ah... Niisan. What happens to people who are killed here?
