D --> I apologize to anyone who had to deal with me while I was under the influence of the curse
D --> I was not myself
D --> Normally I am not so
D --> Outgoing

[Translation: "Normally I do not try to get into the metaphorical pants of everyone I interact with. Oh good lord, strike me down now please."]

D --> I do hope you can all forgive me for the foolishness which occurred

[Action at the Highblood Hive]

[Hey, Gamzee, Equius. Guess who didn't come down to make breakfast? Guess who hasn't even come out of his room? Guess who even locked Dural out so that there is now a very aggravated lusus sitting outside of it, her feathers puffed up?]

[Daddy is not feeling well, kids. He knows you can take care of yourselves.]

Oh, it never is. But I hope you can find comfort in the fact that none of us were ourselves, and that now we are all ourselves again.

Of course, I'd be happy to answer any questions or explain anything you might be curious about. I offer a bit of a unique point of view on human culture as I was born into one society and then found that I belonged to another, kept secret to those of the first. Most things of interest are most likely universal between these two cultures, but some things are very different.

The ways they're the same, I suppose, would be just the ways human culture is different from yours. If you have any specific questions about how we live, as in family structure, socialization with other humans...I don't know. All of those things.

Their differences would be an easier way to start, in getting to know both societies and getting to know me, too.

The family I was born into was very normal, for the place and time on Earth I'm from. Two parents, a mother and a father, and an older sister. Petunia. I was always a bit different. I could make flowers bloom and float in the air. At eleven I received a letter inviting me to a school of magic. When I went to school I entered a world full of witches an wizards. Spells and potions and unicorns and dragons. And I belonged there. Excelled. Before I arrived here I was about to start my seventh and final year of school as Head Girl.

I suppose that's more of an autobiography than anything, but...I'm sure you have at least a question or two.

I made a post a few weeks ago for all you troll-types on human familial structures. Karkat was kind enough to do the same with troll romance, and as I've had to explain it multiple times I thought this might streamline the process. It's right here. Take a look through it and then if you have any additional questions I'd be happy to elaborate.

And as far as potions go, I assume you're speaking of the potion I brewed for Karkat and Gamzee for Christmas? And for Equius, obviously. The the strengthening potion is actually not a difficult one to brew. I have large stores of it and quite a few other potions I've been working on. I've taken to brewing potions during my free time. The potions range from medicinal salves to the Elixir to Induce Euphoria. Did you have any specific interests regarding potions?

Of course. I'm not surprised that particular topic would interest you most. Was there anything in particular you wanted to know, or do you just want me to elaborate on fatherhood?

Yes. There are many potions that can induce particular emotional states, as well as suppress them. Also, I have a potion meant for dreamless sleep, should emotional turmoil be giving you nightmares.

Traditionally, the primary caregiver for a child is his or her mother. The father's role is one of protection, support, and I suppose education as well. If one parent is absent it's nearly always the father, but children who grow up in homes with their fathers tend to be much more successful in life. Involved fathers offer their wisdom to their children and in turn live more fulfilling lives. Children with involved fathers tend to have less behavioral or psychological problems. I suppose this would be a bit different with you and the boys because in human culture if a father is absent it often leaves the child with abandonment issues, but since there is no equivalent in your culture, this would be a moot point. But fathers often increase a child's social stability, educational achievement, and even their potential to have successful relationships with others as they grow up. For example, if you were in a kismesissitude. The children would observe that and then hold that relationship as the standard to live up to. Or on the other side, what they don't want to be. As you might imagine, they have great influence over their children.

Am I right in assuming these are flushed feelings you want to get rid of? I can't just erase your emotions, but there are a few things I could do. I could just erase your memories of him or her entirely. That's a spell rather than a potion, but is fairly simple. But I don't know that I could erase those flushed memories without erasing the person entirely. Another thing people do sometimes when they want to work through an emotion...I could make you a Hate Potion. Although not guaranteed for a person to completely lose their feelings for a loved one, it does show the drinker the person's worst traits and habits, and so discourages them from creating a relationship with that person. I don't know if you would find that helpful or if it might just inspire some awkward caliginous feelings. It's a bit trickier playing with hate and you trolls. There's also a Forgetfulness Potion that might be useful. Again it's not very precise, and you'd probably forget more than just your feelings. And there are always calming draughts and other potions to just...make you feel better temporarily if you like.

I really wouldn't be too worried about living up to human expectations of a father. Equius and Gamzee are just as new to this whole family thing as you are, and as far as I've seen you're a wonderful father. There are many kinds of terrible fathers, but as long as you're always looking out for their welfare first...that's what being a parent is about. Their safety is more important than your own. You'd do anything for them. It's how I feel for them as well.

No, I really wouldn't suggest that either. Potions that mess with people's emotions are always a bit...touchy, I suppose. Love potions, for example, are highly frowned upon, although witches brew them all the time. That false, magic-induced emotional state...it's not real love.

I would be happy to send you several vials of the Draught of Peace. I've brewed it for Equius several times before and it's been very effective. Its main purpose is to relieve agitation and anxiety. Your worries will not trouble you for several hours.

And while your instincts are probably to be alone, if you're truly at peace perhaps you might like some company. That is, might I bring the potion in person and stay to continue our conversation? If you're interested I could also demonstrate any of my magic you'd like to see.

Oh, I already have some brewed. I've had quite a lot of free time since I arrived here and I've spent a lot of it brewing potions. I could bring it over now, if you'd like. If you still need time to think about it, that's alright too, just let me know, love.

Of course. Do what you need to do.

I can give you several. I really hope it helps.
