[What greets viewers perusing the network for the following three seconds is the fuzzy back end of an Umbreon (plus one swishing tail) but Pip soon darts aside to reveal one sallow and apparently very groggy Grim Reaper, still scrubbing the sleep from his golden eyes. Waking up is hard for young gods, it's hard and no one understands.
All three Sanzu lines in his black hair remain connected, forming a trio of parallel white stripes around his head, but Death the Kid is otherwise no different than he usually is.
Also, the pajamas he's wearing have skulls on them. Skulls everywhere, and he isn't yet aware of the device enough to be embarrassed by the less than presentable state of his rumpled clothing and bedraggled hair.]
Did I oversleep?
[The only thing more unfunny than an understatement like that is an unintentional one. Whatever he might do or say next is neatly apprehended by the enthusiasm with which the Umbreon demands his affection; the SFC is knocked off the edge of his bed as Pip lunges for his arms. The video cuts out upon the device's impact with the floor.]

[Rin can't help but laugh quietly at his reaction, though. He can understand it, at least. Kid must have everything done precisely and 'his way'; something Rin isn't exactly well versed in. But he's willing to try for him, at least, and even if he doesn't get it perfect it will still be fixable in the end.
Besides, Kid deserves to be pampered a little now that he's awake.
He starts off slowly, brushing down the messier bits back in to some semblance of order while working through a few tangles here and there.]
It's been like... a month. Almost. I think I lost track somewhere...

Yes, let's stay quite still and just. Try to enjoy it.
Actually, try isn't even an operative word, it's kind of nice getting taken care of.
Is that weird? That seems weird.]
I don't suppose this is the calm before the perhaps inevitable "Maka Chop" storm?
no subject
He waits until there's a little less fidgeting and distressed noises coming from the reaper before continuing.]
I'unno. She's got a lot on her mind right now, so you might get off the hook this time...
no subject
Kid turns his head to pin his gaze on his.]
What do you mean? Is Maka alright? What happened?
no subject
Rin sighs heavily, lowering his hands. This isn't going to be easy for some one lilke him to explain, but he's going to try.]
... what do you know about the Nobodies that live here?
no subject
[Dat lengthy pause.]
Rin, I'm shocked. They all deserve a chance, equally; that you might dismiss anyone as a "nobody" is simply--
[KID PLEASE]
no subject
[A hand over Kid's mouth silences him pretty quickly, and far more efficiently than words.]
A Nobody is a being that has technically lost their heart and soul to Darkness. At least that's how Roxas explained it to me. But they were some one, or a part of some one, before being split.
Roxas is Sora's Nobody. You've probably seen them around here - they're friends of mine and both came in for the cooking classes. One's blonde, the other has really spiky brown hair.
But they're not the only Nobodies here.
[Rin lowers his hand, hoping that explanation is enough to keep Kid quiet and listening.]
One of 'em was on the network a while back askin' about souls, so I mentioned you, Maka and Professor Stein since... y'know. Sorta experts on that shit. I guess he and Maka talked and she went to see him. She came back exhausted and kinda upset.
I'unno what's goin' on, you guys understand this crap way more than I do but... I guess there's somethin' wrong with what's left of his soul and she offered to heal him.
no subject
Love means he's quick to overlook it. And why he cooperates without complaint.]
I've met Roxas.
[Which is as much as Kid's willing to add, as Rin continues, and as he does, the reaper's gaze is introspectively drawn away from him.]
...She would do precisely that. Whether this darkness the soul is lost to is Madness or some other malady, it's quite possible her unique soul wavelength might unlock some kind of cure. Naturally, she would try, even at her own expense.
no subject
Then you've met a Nobody.
[There you go, see, he wasn't insulting anyone. Geez.]
Yeah, see, that's what I'm worried about. And... honestly I'unno if I even got all the details right. She was sorta... half mumbling most of this to me anyway...
[At least he's willing to admit he might not have the full story, but there's enough there for legitimate concern.]
But I know for sure she said she wanted to heal his soul, if he was ready for it. I just... I'unno, is this somethin' we should be lettin' her do on her own? I know she can handle herself just fine, but it still sounds... reckless.
[An odd sentiment coming from some one who is constantly reckless and without concern for his own well being, but this is their girlfriend he's talking about.]
no subject
[Wow, harsh!]
But like it or not that same reckless behavior stems from the bravery that saved us all.
[His fingers tighten over his knuckles, and in another moment, he's trying to turn around, to put that arm around his shoulders. This upsets Pip's claim on his lap, a fact the Umbreon bemoans sleepily.
The reaper's brow, cooler than Rin's own, drops against his forehead for a brief moment.]
However, she needn't do it alone. Allow me to dress. We'll find her, and discover together how we can accomplish this as a team.
no subject
[But he's no less concerned than he was at the start of all of it. The way Maka came to him that day, and the fact that this was some one not from either of their worlds in a unique, potentially harmful situation had actually left Rin in a rare state of caution.
Kid moving closer, pressing their foreheads together even with Pip's tired protests earn a wary smile from the teen, though, and he reaches a hand down to give the Umbreon a calming pet.]
Alright...
no subject
Maka might be prone to throwing her arms around her friends in eager hugs sometimes, but the unseen embrace is more its like in Kid (if highly selective).]
...Maybe in a few more minutes. Eight should be plenty.
[Because wow he really missed this?!]
no subject
But this one was easily felt, and easier to respond to, earning a content smile from the half demon along with a tail swaying behind him in lazy appreciation of their unseen bond.]
Yeah... eight is fine...
[Don't worry, Kid. You're not the only one who missed it.]
no subject
[Eloquence, in so many words (that is, eight of them), can only be afforded one young god, presently in the process of losing things in the cavernous depths called the mutual affection shared between he, a half-demon, and the cure for insanity and fear herself.
And, for all that Kid has much to learn from a girl eager to love genuinely and a boy unaccustomed to it, he has no qualms with sparing minutes of his very long live to the embrace of one or both of them.
That said, it might require ripping of cloth to pry his fingers from Rin's shirt.]
Some call such dreams "going home". It's hardly the same without you among us, Rin Okumura.
no subject
[Rin had returned to True Cross for a brief stint, but that brief stint had led to him caring for a demon capable of manipulating memories to his will. And while he, unlike so many other demons, didn't use this power for ill will or self satisfaction, damage had still be done.
It wasn't permanent, thankfully, but it pained Rin to know that his return had left him devoid of the things he had come to know and love in Vatheon.
There were still things he needed to do back home, missions to take and advancements through the ranks of exorcists until he could be trusted by the Order to remain on their side until the end. But Vatheon, in the near two years he had been there, felt more like home than True Cross did.
But then, home was where the heart was... and his heart, in spite of what others older than them might thing, was firmly with a reaper and a miester not of his world.]
I've wondered what it'd be like, bein' there in your world... not that I'd ever get to go there.
no subject
Even though the cost was great, the future is looking bright, Rin.
[Ah, but what about Rin? He hasn't forgotten about how he might bring him along, as if he could simply tuck him into a pocket and carry him home. But the souls of the living aren't so easily removed from the places and people they're connected to, not without its own set of dangers.
But Rin is a half-demon, and Kid is a god. He believes it can be done, but perhaps it may have to wait a while.]
I wouldn't give up so easily. When your work is done, I promise we'll come for you. Even a new Lord Death can accomplish this, I'm sure of it.
no subject
[He couldn't say the same for his world, because there were more things to worry about than just demons and Satan attempting to merge Assiah and Gehenna. The world wasn't limited to just Japan alone and politics were always going to make the future just that uncertain. But as far as Rin was concerned so long as he could help keep the threat of demons to a minimum he was doing something for his world.
Mentioning 'a new Lord Death' made him blink in surprise, though.]
... new Lord-- ... but what about your father?
no subject
[But it's more than just a transmittal; for the significant power that Kid gained, he lost someone very important to him. Which isn't to say his father is truly gone -- Lord Death is him, now.
Grim reapers sure are weird!]
He's gone.
no subject
[Even if it's not the same, even if Kid has taken his place in ways Rin couldn't possibly understand, to him it might as well be. He lost his father, and now Kid has, too. Hearing that brings a startling wave of emotions over him, memories he'd gone months without dredging up back at the forefront of his mind.]
... I'm sorry, Kid.
no subject
His role as Lord Death took up much of anything that might be called free time in any case, but he still had time to celebrate the small things. Little lives soon to welcome to the world. The graduation of friends to contributing members of this brave new world they lived in.
But Rin's reaction reminds him of how they have now both lost their fathers, and he feels something hot prickle at his eyes.
He misses him, and how all it took to hear his voice was a fingertip sliding across the cold pane of a mirror's reflective surface and an intonation, or a few gestures at empty air.]
So am I.
[For someone so thin, sometimes Kid can really hug tight.]
no subject
He was left wondering sometimes if he ever truly grieved for Shiro until he had arrived in Vatheon.
Never in his life would he wish that sort of fate on others, not his worst enemies and certainly not some one he cared for, but he would be lying if he stated that he didn't feel a shared connection with Kid in their loss.
The tight hug didn't bother Rin in the least, and he hugged back just as tightly.]
For... whatever it's worth, you're not alone in this...
