[The shock of coming back to Vatheon has certainly worn off, and Maka's about settled in after much rearranging of the living quarters she's now sharing. It's a weird setup, but that's par for the course in Vatheon. Something is nagging at her as she works, however, and being left alone without anyone to talk to allows far too much time for her to turn over...several possibilities in her head.]
I think some of you have noticed at this point that sometimes people from your world come from different points in time. Usually it's slightly behind or a good bit ahead, right?

have you ever thought about what might happen if someone really important to you came from a time before they even *knew* you?

Maybe it'd be better to just not say anything if it happens again.

There's about 30 years between us.

There's no way the person I'm thinking about could come from *that* far in time, but I can't imagine meeting any of my teachers or even my father as a kid.
...But then again, 30 years ago my father was practically a toddler.
[Wow Maka, way to make it awkward fast.]
Sorry, I'm rambling now.

He's older than that, but we seem to be about the same age.

For what it's worth, I've asked Kid not to bring up things that happened last time he was here either. Although I can't really stop him from talking to him, sorry.
But to be honest, I wasn't actually thinking about him when I wrote this.

Does this happen often then? People coming from a time before they know others?

voice,
[ She pauses, and what Maka's said sinks in. Oh, Light... ]
I honestly don't know what I'd do if that happened to me.
Are you... I mean. I know you don't know me, but you can talk about it if you need to.
voice,
The coral seems to pull people from different points in time is what I'm saying, basically. Sometimes it seems like they come from alternate realities as well, but that's not as common.
[There's a sound like she's tapping her fingers against something while thinking.]
Hmm...how do I put this? The only example I can really give are my experiences with it, when I first arrived here my partner was from a little bit into the future. So he experienced things that I haven't but will eventually. Of course then we were both pulled back briefly and caught up to the same time before being dropped back here again, so it's really mixed up.
But then there are the ones from the past...my teacher came back recently, but he doesn't remember his time spent in Vatheon. Heck, he's so early in our timeline now, he's not even my teacher yet, he doesn't know who I am. [A pause as she considers what to say next, does she really want to admit this to someone she doesn't know? It seems inconsiderate.] I've been thinking about what might happen if others close to me arrived like that...like maybe my partner, sort of like how it was with him when I first arrived only farther back. There's no mercy with the coral, apparently.
...Ah, sorry, I rambled. I didn't mean to.
voice,
I'm sorry. It has to hurt that he can't remember you. But I bet he's going to try his best to.
[ Another pause, before she continues. ]
I can relate a little. I've got two friends here, but I can only remember one of them. It feels awful. And I'm going to change it. But in the meantime... he'd be hurting the same as you if he were awake.
[ She sighs, and seems to bounce back a bit. ]
We can always make new memories with them. They won't replace the old ones, but they'll make our bonds stronger.

AH IT'S A NINJA
[No point in being cagey about it. After all, Kid probably misses his Weapons too, even if he hasn't considered the scenario yet.]
I guess it's better if he just doesn't come back.
