[Kanaya seems a bit distant, looking away from the screen as she speaks. She sounds tired, emotionally flat and drained.]
If Vriska had something that belongs to you, please let me know. I will try to find and return any such items.
Also, I don't suppose there's ever been any record of someone entering and leaving this place, then returning a second time from a point earlier than the last time they were brought here. If that is something that has occurred before I would like to know about it.

[Action]
[Disciple pressed on into the hive, ignoring it's eight-legged denizens. With no immediate sign of the Jadeblood, she considers where she must be. She recalls the staircase that was made by Darkleer, they had a couple rooms down there, the kitchen among them. So it was either down there, or she was out in the greater bubble. Might as well check the easier box off the list first.]
[Down the elegant metal staircase she went, her muscles moving her swiftly and carefully. Down in this part of the hive, she closes her eyes, and lets her other senses take over, seeing if the younger troll is in fact down here. Maybe her nose or ears could do a better job then her eyes.]
[Action] I apologize only for the delay, and NOTHING ELSE.
Quite frankly, you find the notion absurd.
[The staircase is actually missing! The floor seems quite solid as well, as if this room never contained a staircase at all. You can't even make out the seam where the mechanical marvel slid back into place. Obviously something is going on here. You know this is where the staircase was. Looking around, there does not seem to be any obvious mechanism for opening the passage... though a nearby bookcase is looking a bit suspicious, considering all the books have been pulled off the shelf... except for one unlabeled tome.]
>
[Action] We are doing this, Bro.
[Momentarily caught off guard by the missing staircase, she quickly notices the bookcase and the curious lone book. It could not be that simple, could it?]
[Action] We're making this happen
As the book is placed back in position Disciple's hand brushes something under the shelf. There seems to be some sort of device built into the shelf... and it kinda feels like a button!
>
[Action] Awwwww yeah.
Retrieve arms from safe.Press Button, receive staircase.[She paused briefly to consider the necessity of a secret staircase, or why all the books were removed except for the one blocking the button. Regardless, If Kanaya was here she needed to find her, she presses the button and waits for a response.]
Brace for mamacat impact.... 3... 2... 1...
[Kanaya is sitting on the floor near the kitchen, under the small table that she and disciple previously shared tea on. The staircase made no noise at all to alert her to her visitor, but her uncanny hearing is able to pick up the movements of the Disciple as she comes into the basement.]
Oh. Hi.
[She looks a mess right now, but it seems like she's mostly finished crying.]
Homebase, we are reporting impact.
[Disciple marches straight towards the jadeblood, encircling her in her arms. She draws her closer, the better to comfort her in her time of loss. She does not say anything as of yet, just embracing her.]
Roger that, good contact. Delivering feels.
I went to check on her and she wasn't in her bed...
[She starts to choke back on a new wave of tears, trying to keep control and barely succeeding.]
I thought she woke up.
We have confirmation of feels, over.
[Disciple falls back on something she picked up from her stay in the wilds. While still holding Kanaya close, she makes a soft purring noise, used by many furbeasts to, among other things, help calm their distressed young. She was surprisingly good at mimicking the sound, her practice with Nepeta was really paying off.]
There, there, Kan.
It is not easy, finding out like that.
[More holding, and more soft purring from Disciple.]
Roger. Comfort response is within tolerance levels. Proceeding to feel better.
Thank you... I was holding it together, but then I talked with Karkat.
Confirming response. Attempting continued deescalation of despondancy.
I know that nothing I can say can make it all better, as much as I wish I could. It is a terrible thing that they took her away so soon after you two entered into your matespritship. All I can really say is that miracles are possible in this place.
[Then she was back to the purring, albeit a bit quieter then before.]
Deescalation successful. DEFCON status downgrade from UPSET to DEALING
[Kanaya gives the Disciple one more tight hug before standing up. She turns back, finally with a bit of a smile on her face... natural, not forced. ]
I'm going to make tea. I have some tea biscuits but I'm afraid I'm fresh out of cupcakes.
Reporting sensors showing DEALING. Mission Successful, entering holding pattern.
I suppose I do sound like him, but at least in this instance I believe his infinite well of hope has some merit here.
[The forced purring stops, its purpose completed.]
I believe tea biscuits would be wonderful.
[Besides, cupcakes were starting to have an entirely different connotation to her.]

[She puts the kettle on, and continues to talk while she gets the cups ready.]
He shared some of that limitless hope with me on the network before you came over. I can't say it was particularly helpful, but I suppose I liked the sentiment. If anything it was Karkat's advice that really helped... Even if he's pretty much the reason I was crying when you arrived.

He may slather it on a little thick at times, but you are right, the sentiment helps if nothing else. I know it did when Signless was taken.
If you do not mind my asking, what is it that he said to cause you to cry like that?

[She scratches at the back of her head as she recalls some of the 'impossibilities' this place has thrown at her.]
Anything. Really.
At least you can always keep that one thread of hope that this place will have things go the way you really want them to.
Karkat is right though, as he helped you see. This place gives you that thin thread of hope, nothing more. It is nothing that you can set your life aside for, but there will always be the small chance. It is reassuring in a way. At least it is for me.

Plenty of milk, as you prefer.
[She sits with her friend, sipping from her own cup.]
I wanted to show you something interesting. "One follows the other."
[The phrase isn't the autotranslated english that Vatheon forces on everyone; she's making a specific effort to speak in old Alternian. The lights dim, and the curved ceiling is suddenly covered with thousands of dots of light... dots that may seem all too familiar. The night sky of Alternia, in perfect replica.

Thank you.
[She takes a sip]
Something to show me?
[Oh, Old Alternian, she has not head that in quite awhile. She thought that the phrase might have been what she was being shown, but then the lights dim and the light show begins. Almost as soon as has her tea, it is forgotten.]
Oh. Oh my word. [The cup is set down and Disciple begins to walk around the room. Almost instantly she is feeling reflective.] It is home. I know these stars well. So many nights spent staring up at them. It is... beautiful, Kanaya.

The phrase is supposed to be about the moons, and about moirails.

[Which briefly has Disciple reminded of her pale thoughts. Not for long, as she gives a sympathetic smile for her friend.]
For Vriska? Did she miss Alternia's sky?

[She walks over to one side of the room, pointing at one of the points of light. Disciple was dredging up old memories for this.]
This is the septentrional star. With it, you would always know where your ship was heading.
