[Very deliberate (and deliberated over) video]
[Ky's sitting in his apartment. It's afternoon now, and he's spent since midnight thinking about this, almost entirely off the network. But it's clear that the solution isn't just thinking, and that he can't implement his desired solution on his own.]
It's become apparent that one thing this place is suffering from is a severe lack of justice. There always remained the question of once we caught the murderer what could be done to keep them separate in what passes for society here, to keep them from hurting another.
And now, failed joke or not, a woman lies dead. And we do know who is responsible.
Are we really going to sit back, be distressed and discomfited, but do nothing?
Or is it time to set up some system of justice? -- Not vengeance, that's not what I'm recommending, but there needs to a rehabilitation process.

I think the important first step is to hear what other people think of the idea, and what justice means where they come from. I think a juried trial would be better than trusting things to a particular judge, and therefore it's important to know what demographics need to be represented. I think the sentencing procedure is going to be almost as important than the actual laws, if simply because of the variety of incidents that we'll be having to deal with that.
After that, then, well, it's a matter of coming up with those laws, and mechanisms of punishment. Obviously the goal would be rehabilitation here, because the only option for non-natives who can't be rehabilitated is indefinite imprisonment. Determining the laws will be tricky, but it's not impossible.
We lack a democratic process here altogether, and I don't know the Defence Force leadership well enough to know whether or not they would find the Defence Force serving as a kind of police force acceptable. But if they don't, then other mechanisms will have to be established. The way I see it it isn't really an option to continue on in our current state of affairs -- the innocent are in danger and that's not something I'm going to wait for someone else to solve.

I am hardly a supporter of the law enforcement back home but that doesn't mean the idea should be banished nor does it mean others couldn't do a better job.
Unfortunately, the bureaucracy isn't really my thing on a normal day.

I do appreciate it and I'm sure that I will call on you. Thank you.
For now it's a matter I believe of understanding enough about what they do on other worlds so as to prevent anyone from feeling personally attacked. I think I need to work on that step for a while.

There is of course the issue that I've alienated a few people here in my time. I wouldn't want them to feels as if their input is not appreciated.

Or you could find someone else to ask for you. Someone more popular.

If not...any suggestions on who might be more popular?
