[Very deliberate (and deliberated over) video]
[Ky's sitting in his apartment. It's afternoon now, and he's spent since midnight thinking about this, almost entirely off the network. But it's clear that the solution isn't just thinking, and that he can't implement his desired solution on his own.]
It's become apparent that one thing this place is suffering from is a severe lack of justice. There always remained the question of once we caught the murderer what could be done to keep them separate in what passes for society here, to keep them from hurting another.
And now, failed joke or not, a woman lies dead. And we do know who is responsible.
Are we really going to sit back, be distressed and discomfited, but do nothing?
Or is it time to set up some system of justice? -- Not vengeance, that's not what I'm recommending, but there needs to a rehabilitation process.

...At which point we may as well attempt to continue to rehabilitate them.

[He's going to be busy for a while, he supposes, between that and other things he needs to address. Good.]

I would be happy to assist if needed.

Can you tell me what forms justice takes where you're from? Both within the military context and outside of it, if they're different.
no subject
I'm unsure if it's different from yours. In the case of criminals, they're given a fair trial under someone qualified to make the decision- either an official or an appointed judge. In some cases His Majesty is requested to take part in the ruling for the higher cases. If they're guilty, they are punished accordingly. Those who are mentally unwell are taken to complexes where they are facilitated and hopefully made well again by professionals.
In the terms of military punishment, there are, of course, different levels for different crimes. Small things are given warnings and enough warnings warrants a dishonorable discharge from service. Larger things, such as traitorous acts or defection, are met with both dishonorable discharge as well as imprisonment.
There's more to each but those are the basics. I doubt you want me to prattle on forever.
[More like he really doesn't.]

If I could ask you to for a little longer, would you mind speaking as to whether the 'fair trials' are just the official or judge, or is there any aspect of a jury in there?
no subject
If it's a public case, a group of citizens might be called in. More often than not it's simply the official or judge. Very few times have we required or called on the other citizens.

I think something with a jury would suit here better, simply because we have more peers and less people trusted to make binding judgements.

After all, justice is more a headache these days~
[Jade isn't huge on the subject of morality, but in his experience, people will take the easier way of condemning someone than to sit and talk it out. No one likes just talking these days.]

[He seems to think, then shakes his head.]
I don't think there's any one person or group of people who truly 'represent' Vatheon's opinions. Given that the ruling body is a coral, there's little doubt that the justice system, though nonexistent, might be biased.

Either way, it's our obligation to make our justice system as unbiased as possible.
no subject
People who are wholly unbiased are hard to come by.
no subject
Then the system should work to negate any biases they might have.

It won't work 100% of the time, but I suppose one has to work with what they have.
