Ah... I seem to have gotten a handle on this device... I think...

[Ioder peers closely at the SFC in his hand, head tilting slightly to the side thoughtfully. For all his confusion, he looks slightly bemused. His first couple of weeks in Vatheon have been... interesting, to say the least.]

My cousin, Estellise, informed me that I should make an introduction here. My name is Ioder and-- I've never kissed anyone, not in the 18 years I've been alive--

[The bemused expression is gone in a flash, replaced by wide green eyes and hands over his mouth, voice coming out muffled behind them]

O... oh... so this is that curse-- Sometimes when I'm alone, I sing silly songs to myself to pass the time, because days in the palace were just that lonely--

[His hands clench tighter, eyes closing. Eventually he manages enough composure to reach forward...]

Perhaps I should do this another time...

[and turn the device off before it gets any worse]

Better go fix that while you can. Dying a virgin is no one's idea of a jolly good time. Not even having sloppy makeouts is even worst. [Need to stop being such an insufferable prick.]

Singing isn't all that bad. I do it all the time in the shower. [He's getting used to these random confessions, so his face doesn't waver. Although he has that 'I dare you to mention that. I just dare you.']

Heh. This week might not be the best for introductions, but I hope you're adapting well. Although you're not alone with the kissing issue; I've got you topped by three years. Being afraid of girls doesn't really help that, you know.

[There's a small pause before he adds:]

Ah. Anyways. Welcome to Vatheon.

Oh, you're Estellise's cousin?... It's very nice to meet you. My name is Ruca Milda and I have never kissed anyone either.

_{[he blinks. What has he just said. He looks embarrassed now.]}

I-I didn't mean to say that...

_{[He sighs. It really is a good thing he doesn't know a lot of people he could talk to. He's already tired with those random confessions...]}

I'm doing well, all things considered. Though this curse is very-- I used to steal food from the palace kitchen when I was younger--

... bothersome.

[Well, it gets a smile out of Ioder at least, knowing that he's not the only one with that problem. Well, both problems.]

This curse seems to be good at doing that. Unfortunate things aside, it's nice to meet you, Ruca.

[oh look, an entire reply without a confession! Let's see how long this lasts.]

[Ioder can read that expression surprisingly well, and manages to keep his mouth shut about that]

I'm afraid I had more important things to worry about than my... [choosing words carefully here] love life. Or lack there of. I'm jealous of the friends my cousin has gained because of her travels.

[and a scowl here]

... this is mildly annoying.

Well, do what you can for the time being. With all luck, people will stay courteous and let things go in one ear and out the other. Even if it is just an act.

Even an act can be a relief for others, especially in moments like this. I feel like I've had to put up an act every day of my life.

Um... what's a kiss?

[Tilts his head to the side, honestly curious.]

[well that's--...

Ioder's not quite sure what that is.]

... you truly don't know?

No, I don't. Just tell me!

[He seems mildly frustrated, though that could be because he keeps getting asked the equivalent of "are you serious?" every time he asks what something is.]

[Demanding one, isn't he?]

... I'm afraid all I could really give you would be the text book explanation.

That's fine. I'm just really tired of not knowing things so any answer is good.

Ah... I see...

Well... a kiss is essentially the act of pressing your lips to another person or object. It has many different connotations. A kiss on the cheek or forehead is often affectionate, usually between friends and family members, like a mother to child. It can also be used for greeting or departing, or even good luck.

However... a kiss on the lips... that is, more or less, a romantic gesture between lovers. That's the kind of kiss I've never had, and I feel as though I've missed out because of it.

[Ioder's face goes bright red, and he coughs, turning his head away.]

O-oh... [Dark Link blushes too, not sure what to do with this new information.]

I'm... finding I'm not alone in this... so I suppose that means in the same way you aren't either.

I guess so... is kissing something people usually want to do?

I suppose it can be said that one of the high points of human existence is the ability to fall in love with another person... and kissing is one way of showing that love. At least that's how I understand it.

I'm afraid I'll never fall in love.

[oh damnit it all, this curse!]

[After a moment of blank staring at the camera, Dark Link's face turns bright crimson and he hurriedly shuts off the video feed.

Love, apparently, is a concept he's aware of.]

That's true. Although you have to wonder how little people enjoy having their trust played around with. Heaven knows I hate it. But I live in a delicate lie, so I suppose I don't have any right to say that.

[Well!

That was rude...]

I don't think anyone truly likes it, no. Though I suppose in some situations it can't be helped. It seems like the life of an imperial is nothing but lies, and a hate it and wish I had nothing to do with it some days.

Since when is the life of nobility ever anything but pain, selfishness and cover stories? Even when I was torn from it and thrown into enemy territory, I still found myself caught up in the damn messes it caused.

[There's a long pause before he types again.]

Normally this city works just fine, even with its quirks. I don't mind it. But things like this curse - things that mess with who a person is and how much they want to lie about - make me question why we're all here in the first place and what kind of bastard would take such pleasure in causing people embarrassment and pain without their consent..

[Guy, are you Ioder?]

It leaves me to question if it's even possible for a person to be behind this all. At least a person as you and I might know them to be. Because humans can be awful, but I've seen things that put human horrors to shame.

Is that so wrong?

[She purposely leaves her address vague. She can work with whatever he chooses to respond with, anyway.]
