[The SFC turns on, and it shows Jacob sitting quietly in the middle of his cabin, his black chocobo beside him. For some reason, she seems nervous, and keeps trying to jump up and run around, but every time she's stopped by his hand on her head and she calms down. The man himself seems to be staring off into the distance, not quite looking at the camera at all.]

If a person is made to change into something different...does this change them who they are as a person?

[There's an intake of breath from him, and then suddenly, without warning, the candles around the cabin go out, one by one, even though Jacob doesn't move a muscle. The man continues to speak as if nothing is happening.]

It's odd, really. You don't think that it would, but suddenly, you're seeing the world so differently, through someone else's eyes...

[It's now pitch dark. The chocobo lets out a nervous cry, and then the candles blaze ferociously on and off, showing the shadows of what seem to be two large wings coming out of Jacob's back.]

[And then the whole sight is gone as fast as it was shown. Jacob continues to sit, but this time he looks at his hands, as if making sure they're real. His chocobo, way too nervous by the affair, walks off screen, and Jacob doesn't stop her. When he speaks again, he actually sounds a bit uncertain, which is not a tone you hear Jacob use very often.]

I think...I think I'm an angel now. It's very strange. I'm me. But I'm not me.

I'm just something else now.

[Angels are, in reality, enormous spiritual beings that have to possess human vessels or else they blow people's eyes out with the vision of their true form. At least before he was highly comfortable in his own body, but now it feels like he's wearing himself as a suit, and it's extremely odd.]

[He looks concerned at that second part, though.] A bug? How are you typing, then? I assume it isn't your ordinary sort of insect...

[Karkat therefore answers with video, but looks extremely wary - and also human. Pale skin, black hair, grey eyes. Still a bit fangy.]

Changing into something else on its own isn't going to change who you are. I wasn't suddenly different than I was because I got to fly around the last time this happened, and I seriously doubt being human this time around is going to make that much of a difference.

But if you're an angel... you're not going to... do anything to this place, are you?

[He smiles, though it doesn't quite reach his eyes. Being what he was before was something he had gotten used to, but now being forced into being a incredibly powerful spiritual creature that was larger than the Empire State Building somehow jammed into a human body is quite uncomfortable, to say the least.]

No, I mostly agree with you, but you've changed into something that's not too dissimilar from your original self. I'm talking about cases where, say, an angel becomes a demon, or a man wakes up and becomes a bug. And that being said, if this was all permanent, would we start treating each other differently? I imagine not, but there would be slight changes that no one would notice...

[He stares at the camera for a while at Karkat's question, then shakes his head.] No, of course not. Why would you think I would do something like that?

I was a type of hoofbeast last time this happened, but it didn't change me anymore than to let me know what flying and being quadrupedal is like, and give me a distinct longing to have actual fingers and thumbs again.

[He shifts uncomfortable at the staring, not really able to stop himself from it. The question makes him want to offer some sort of motion at him, but it probably wouldn't show in the camera view.]

You're an angel. Why else? The last time--any troll interacted with them, that troll's own idiocy aside, they wanted to kill anything vaguely troll-shaped that came their way. And they didn't exactly sound so good before that happened either. Did you even have any idea what your video looked like? All flickery candlelight and--and those wings, shadow-wings, whatever they are.

Those are more physical changes, though. Your mind remains the same. In this case...[He makes a vague gesture as he tries to figure out how to put it into something that Karkat can understand.] I've been disconnected from something that made me who I was before.

[He's been disconnected from the Source, but he can't exactly quite tell Karkat that clearly, due to his duties of protecting it and all. Although he's powerful as before, he no longer knows everything about everyone. He's no longer the omniscient destiny-changing being he was before. It was kind of like he experienced a blackout in that certain area, like a part of his mind has been blocked off so he can't reach it.]

I'm definitely a different angel than the ones who come from your world, Karkat. And, I may have had an idea of what that looked like. I imagine it was only quite the limited point of view, though. What I am now is...much more than can ever be shown on a simple camera.

It's rather like...I've become something that is possessing myself. For what you see at the moment, this is now just a shell, a vessel I'm now inhabiting. What I've truly become is, I believe, too powerful to be seen with the human eye.
