There's going to be a battle back in my world shortly after my friends and I return. Longer for Perrin than for me, but not that longer. We're not sure if we'll survive. [Quieter:] Or if our flaming world will survive.

[A pause]

But since we have time before Tarmon bloody Gai'don here...Any ideas for things the three of us could do? [Should he mention that they're all married? Nah, that can wait for any of that kind of suggestions.]

Oh, and one of us is missing his dominant hand, so try to make it things you can do one handed. [His eye doesn't affect much though. Well, it does. But he won't say that.

There's very little...by way of current threat here, I suppose. Although we suffer the usual problems of taking a number of people from such different places.

Tell me, what is justice like, where you come from?

It depends on what country you're in. Andor's laws and trials are...well, just. The Whitecloaks don't even give you a chance to prove your innocence; if you disagree with them, you must be guilty.

There are a lot of other countries with different justice systems.

Does it presume innocence if there isn't evidence, or is it simply that it gives you the opportunity to show that evidence?

Gives you the opportunity to show evidence, and testimonies of witnesses if there are any. It isn't always right, but from what I've seen it's been right most of the time. No system is always right. Both Elayne and Morgase have always beat themselves up when they give the wrong sentence and find out later.

I think the capability of the judges to feel remorse often speaks well to their abilities to make such momentous decisions.

Seems so, yeah. Whitecloaks never seem to show any remorse, even when proven that they were wrong.

What are whitecloaks, if I may ask?

They call themselves the Children of the Light. They...are like guards almost, except they wander from country to country and enforce their own bloody rules wherever they go, regardless of what that country's monarch wants. They assume that if someone disagrees with them, that that person is a Darkfriend. They immediately assume if someone denies being a Darkfriend, that they are a Darkfriend. And they believe all Darkfriends must be killed. If you are given over to a Questioner, the Whitecloaks call them something else, you are tortured into saying you are a Darkfriend. And that's what they call a trial.

How does your political system allow them to continue to operate?

[Such a system sounds...unstable, and terrible. But the instability should take care of the other, surely?]

I don't know! I'm not a bloody noble, I grew up on a farm and now I'm a flaming general. I keep out of that sort of things.

It's not a matter that your military is concerned with?

My army? No. We stay out of things. Especially Whitecloak things. Sure they're insufferable, but the Band and I can't do much about them. We aren't exactly tied to any bloody country.

I'm not certain that I follow, but I'm sure that you know your situation better than I could hope to. Thank you, for your explanation of justice on your world, though.

Sometimes. But maybe the Band and I aren't an 'outside' perspective to the Whitecloaks. They're convinced one of my friends is a bloody Darkfriend after all.

I might ask you to talk to them, if one shows up. They might listen to you, if they don't pronounce you Darkfriend for trying to reason with them.

That would...make it more personal.

And I'd be happy to attempt my skills of reasoning on them.
