[080] - [Voice]
[Mitsuhide sounds a little distant when he speaks.]
Sometimes doing the right thing can hurt... it is a lesson I have learned well.
[There is a quiet pause before the young samurai sighs softly. When he speaks again he sounds more calm and professional; time for the real point of the network post.]
I have noticed that there are many people searching for work lately. As that is the case, I have decided to open up a position within the stables. If you have prior experience working with horses, that would be very helpful, but I would be willing to train if not. We only have a handful of horses here, so the work would not be too overwhelming.
If you have any interest, let me know, and I shall tell you a little more about what to expect.

[Mitsuhide hums thoughtfully.]
How much do you know about horses overall? You have not worked with them, I know, but this would help me decide where best to start such training.
Re: [Video]
I uh. I know they run fast? They eat hay?
Very well.
[Mitsuhide taps his chin.]
If you are willing to put in the work, and get a little dirty, then I shall take you on as an apprentice, of sorts.
Re: [Video]
[A bow of the head.]
When do you wish to start, my friend?
Re: [Video]
[He smiles. It's been a while since he trained anyone, so it should be an interesting experience.]
Come to the stables tomorrow and we shall make a start. I shall be there all the day.
Re: [Video]
((Hey, just PM me or poke Masaru on his Vat voicemail if you need him for anything, alright?))
[and a bandit but that's mentioned like 4 times...]
[Well, Mitsuhide has offered the position to someone... but someone who is going to need training from the basics upwards. It might help to have another soul around to help Yukimura take care of the day-to-day work while Mitsuhide is absorbed in training the apprentice.]
If that is so, I would gladly offer you work. Do you have any particular experience with foals?
[He laughs quietly.]
I think it would be best to offer you a position in taking general care of the horses and stables, if you wish it? I shall need the extra hands while I am teaching my trainee, I am certain.

[Mitsuhide bows his head.]
Were it possible to take them to the surface I would, but the elevator does not have the space for that.
I suppose...They're probably not really aware that they're underwater, are they?
[A thoughtful hum; Mitsuhide taps his chin.]
All of the horses born since I found them know nothing else, so I doubt those do. The original horses seem quite content, so even if they are aware it does not bother them.
Bad enough to put people in these conditions.

You have my thanks, Lord Yukimura. It may become necessary at this rate.
His tone of voice betrays his real mood, too - the very first word, especially, is spoken in that tone of command that all Upper Caste Evronians use with their many, many inferiors.]
Mitsuhide.
[... At least he soon ditches that tone for something slightly more normal. But still, his words tremble with irritation.]
It is my understanding that there is one less member of your household at the moment.
[Gracia has moved out, and told the network as much. But what in that does the other find offensive?]
Yes, we have indeed.
[The samurai keeps his voice serious, solemn.]
Does this trouble you?
As I believe I have told you once, we Evronians mature and reach adult age in the span of three months after birth, without need of a family or another nurturing and sheltering institution.
Your species, however, is an entirely different matter. You are all beings capable of strong emotions, dependent on them, on those you feel yourselves and on those radiating from the ones around you. Loneliness can harm your minds and even bodies in ways that perhaps you don't even realize.
I agree that it was about time your daughter left the familial nest. But do you not believe it should have been her own choice?
It was her choice, Gorthan. I made a suggestion to her that moving out might be a good idea; I did not tell her she had to do so.
[Mitsuhide looks sad now, and regards Gorthan with dark eyes. There is a lot he isn't saying, though likely the other soul can feel it. He is, yes, a little hurt, and frustrated, and worried too.]
[The samurai knows of loneliness well.]
Do you honestly think I would force her out of her home against her will?
[Even though the way Mitsuhide is reacting is certainly a testament to his sincerity... Gorthan is blinded by his own rage right now. The sound of Gracia's pained voice over the SFC is still all too vivid in his mind.]
She was afraid to show her face on the network, she was positive that you required her to live completely alone with no one to rely on, and she even told me that you took a prized possession away from her!
[And there is that tone again.]
Are you claiming that this is none of your doing, Mitsuhide?
[Mitsuhide closes his eyes again, that worry and hurt only growing more intense.]
When I made that suggestion to her, she ran away for three days because she believed I intended to force her to move out. I did not. She realised this and came home.
[It had been a major demonstration of a point he was trying to make to her; she still reacted to most things as a child would. Her physical age was irrelevant when she still had tantrums like a young one, still saw everything from her point of view alone.]
The possession I took from Tama is a wooden necklace I carved myself. It contains the location of the hut I lived in as Tenkai, back in Japan. In her world, the version of myself that fathered her is likely to still be there. When I gave it to her, I did so bidden by love and nothing else. When I took it back, it was through love again, but love tempered by sense.
[He shakes his head. If only he had thought back then, this would have gone a lot more smoothly more everyone involved.]
If she were sent home with that information as she is now, no doubt she would simply charge to that place without thought or regard to her safety. Judging from what she has told me of her situation back home? Doing so would likely end in her getting at least injured and quite likely killed.
[She has so little sense of safety, and seems almost eager at times to put herself into great danger because she thinks it might help. Goodness, not long ago she, in all seriousness, told him that telling others of your pain would fix it completely.]
[It had been a sincere belief, until he pointed out the errors in such an approach.]
I made the suggestion to her because she needs to mature, and to do that, she needs to seperate herself from me a little. Right now all she can see is my safety, and grows only through myself and Lord Motochika's suggestions. More, she seeks to help me in a way that harms us both, though she cannot see that yet.
In truth, I do not want her to move out, to move away from me. I worry constantly. But this is what is best for her. Tama needs to learn to be safe, to think before she acts, to try and see things from the perspectives of others. If she does not, I fear what fate may have in store for her.
[...wait. After that long speech, something else occurs to Mitsuhide. She thought he wanted her to live on her own? How on earth did she come to that conclusion? So he adds, with a sigh:]
If she thinks I require her to live on her own, she is mistaken. I only thought it best that she did not live with me... I would never inflict loneliness on her.
One would think that communication between two people bound together by such strong biological ties would be more efficient. But no matter.
So this is all based on a misunderstanding, I see. One that it is your duty to clear up, as her father. I suggested that she move in with me, but she refused staunchly, convinced that only solitude would make her worthy of living with you again.
[He closes his eyes.]
I am glad that your intention was not to have her live alone. If it had been, I believe I would have done... something quite extreme. But enough of that. She misunderstood, and you must remedy this as soon as you can.
[And for a moment there he hesitates. What he said was true, but... once, it was how he punished himself, wasn't it? A self-inflicted punishment for his sins.]
But I do indeed intend to speak with her about this. Once I have cleared things up, I hope she seeks out a roommate. Maturing does not require one to live alone. People need other people, and her dog will not suffice in such respects.
[And he smiles a little at that, because he can imagine her announcing that Futon would be perfect company.]
Even if she tries to insist he will.
Do make her understand that company will only do her good.
[There is a pause, as Gorthan contemplates whether he should apologize for his rash accusations. Apologizing is certainly something he is not used to doing, whatever he does...
... But a darker thought strikes him then. And though there is no direct apology, his humbled, quiet tone when he speaks next may be said to count as one.]
Mitsuhide, do you... do you think I could be a good roommate for your daughter? I...
... It's no use hiding that I have grown close to her, and I wish I had the time and the opportunity to share my knowledge with her. She seems... receptive to it so far, too. But someone like myself is bound to eventually scare her away...
[He's aware of how un-Evronian this all is... And it only makes him sadder and less at ease with himself.]
[When it comes to his daughter, however... he doesn't have those concerns so much. Gorthan's attitude towards the young woman makes him almost certain there is nothing to worry about there.]
I doubt you would scare her away, Gorthan. Not Tama.
[He shakes his head.]
If you wish for me to give me approval, then I shall. The choice is hers, however. Give it a few days so that I may discuss the roommate situation with her, then talk to her about it.
So you would allow your daughter, your own flesh and blood, to room with the destroyer of your planet? Do ponder the consequences of your decisions.
[Voice]
I could help. My da is a horse trader, and I've always taken care of my own horse.
[Voice]
[Mitsuhide laughs, looking a bit sheepish, and rubs the back of his head. He is far too soft for his own, good, but...]
Well, the positions I had on offer are gone, but if you know anything about taking care of foals that would be very helpful. We have several right now who could do with some dedicated care.
[Voice]
[Voice]
[Mitsuhide actually looks a little relieved.]
They will benefit from your care, I am certain. I would be willing to let you keep one to call your own as well; as you shall be raising them, it is only fair.
[Voice]
You don't need to do that, but I appreciate the offer. I'll let you know if I take a shine to one of them. [A pause.] Where are the stables?
[Voice]
[A smile.]
In the forest dome. Enter it, and you will find signposts to guide you.
[Ones Mitsuhide had to make himself, as it happens, but they do the job.]
[Voice]
Which reminds him. He had no idea what this man's name was, and most likely that meant the man didn't know what his name was either.]
My name's Mat. What's yours?
