A question, if I may...

How do you, personally, deal with a particularly bad misconception about yourself or something you do? Do you simply ignore it and move on, or try fervently to change the opinion of the person involved?

Then you have to prove it with the rest of your actions, with your other interactions with them.

I've found myself at a loss for how to do that. Normally I would have no issue with something of this nature, but I'm afraid she's backed me in to a corner I'm not sure how to get out of.

You just need to try to make her respect your judgment when it comes to other things and then perhaps she'll come to see it with regards to whatever this is about. It may be...a long struggle, but that doesn't make it any less worth doing.

I suppose there's truth in that. It's not as though I took the job to impress anyone. I'm just finding myself a little... perturbed that some one can be so unwilling to see the other side of an argument.

There are politicians I know with less stubborn tenancies.

You simply have to be more stubborn, and more persistent, than her.

It's not so hard as all that. I can't promise that you'll ever convince anyone, but it's surely better to try than not.
