03 - and the Dark One shall once more lay his hand upon the world of man

[ The feed opens not from Rand's hand, although the view was of the sleeping man, but from Mat's. Given that Mat didn't really have that good of a grip on it for taking video - one of his fingers was half on the camera - this probably wasn't on purpose.

Mat has a brush in hand. He keeps grumbling things under his breath as he doodles things on the sleeping man's face, careful not to get ink in his hair. ]

Just like you, sleeping through a bloody invasion. Of some other place's Shadow! [ Mat adds the other half of a mustache - a long curly one - with a flourish. ]

Think that may be why it didn't wake me. [ At Rand's words, Mat yelped, wobbled, spilled his ink over himself, and fell off the stool. The SFC dropped to the floor as well. Rand sat up, resting his chin on his hand and watched with some amusement. ]

Blood and bloody ashes, Rand! You've been asleep for a flaming month and a half in this bloody place and that's the first thing you say? Light! [ As Mat pushed himself up, his hat slid free of his head and his scarf free of his neck, showing the awkwardly flat mostly-closed left eye, and a vivid scar circling his neck. ]

I wasn't aware it was that long, but that may explain why you reacted so much that your clothing is beginning to fall free. [ With a yelp, Mat went to tie his scarf again. ]

((OOC: Rand is back among the awake, and replies will be from both Rand and Mat. Rand is red, Mat is green~))

That's um. Well, kind of awkward. The only reason she even watched the broadcast all the way through was because she recognized Mat, and Rand's name-- but she has to avert her eyes.

She pulls herself together for a response though, at least.]

So he's been asleep, huh?

[From their last conversation, she hadn't even been sure of Rand was in the city. Nice to meet the guy in person... or, well. Through the SFC.]

That seems to be what everyone is saying. [ Hello person who seems to know a bit, Rand is going to pick up his SFC now, and settle it so that both of them are visible. Oops, his left hand is most definitely a stump, but he doesn't seem bothered by it. ]

[Yukari doesn't seem to mind it either. At least Mat told her about it, so...she was kind of expecting it, really. There's a friendly smile, and she figures she'd better tell him all this before he labels her a creeper.]

Hah, 'morning then. Mat's told me a bit about you...

Is it morning? [ Rand sits properly up on that couch and..

Realizes he's not quite in the same room he remembered. Seems to be lots of new about this place. Huh. ]

Rand al'Thor, although you seem to know that.

[...Well it's morning for him. He just woke up and all. But Yukari won't get into the technicalities.

She just nods to respond.]

Yeah, but I don't know everything...

[Heh.]

How do ya feel?

My face is surprisingly itchy. [ A little dryly said, Rand is fully aware he's got ink on his face. ]

Aside from that, remarkably well. Some stiffness, and a little disorientation.

[Yukari laughs a bit. She's noticed the ink on his face, of course...]

[She seems to be inspecting him-- well, as best as she can, over video anyway.]

Looks like Mat's taken pretty good care of you though, all things considered.

[Awkward is almost the story of Mat's life. But he nods at the SFC, fiddling with the end of his hastily retied scarf.]

He fell asleep a couple of days before we met.

[Yukari has fallen into a sleep coma before-- and although she was grateful for the rest, waking up has never been so weird She can sympathize with Rand here.]

You must've been worried.

[From what Perrin said, he knows when it turned on. So he nods.]

Yeah. You haven't found an archery range yet? [He was worried, there's no point in hiding that. But changing the topic is something he kinda wants to do. Not much more to say about him being worried over Rand sleeping.]

[...Oh. Yukari freezes up for a moment, but then shakes her head.]

I got a bit distracted.

But hey, if we find one now, maybe Rand can come with us.

[And by "now," she means "now that Rand is awake," not so much "now" as in "right this instant" --]

[He chuckles.]

[And that's an idea! Except...He lets out a small sigh.]

Guess I'd better go try to find enough wood to make Rand one. I don't think he's touched a bow to use it in two years...

[What do you mean, Rand's in the same room as him? Finding the wood wouldn't take all that long, but then they'd have to wait for it to dry...He's not sure letting Rand draw the moisture out of the bow stave would be a good idea.]

[...Oh that's right. He was going to make his own, and Yukari was gonna bug him to teach her how, at some point. Now might be a good opportunity to chime up about that, though with Rand there, it wouldn't be polite to just ignore him.]

Oh, so he doesn't have one yet? [No bow in Vatheon. Huh.] I can help, if you want.

[Yep. Mat nods.]

We could find one, but it wouldn't be the same. And thanks. We appreciate it. [And possibly need it...He doesn't remember much of making his, and Rand doesn't have his dominant hand. He doesn't even remember if it takes more than one set of hands! He. Should really ask the other two about that...]

[She assumes it takes more than one hand! It seems like a lot of work to make something like that from scratch, after all. But she'll make no assumptions.]

Yeah, no problem. Just tell me what ya need-- y'know, once he catches up on everything he's missed.

[A month and a half... jeez.]

[More than one hand, definitely. More than two...he's not sure.

He nods again, smiling.]

I will. After we make him one, we could help you make one too, if you want. I'm not sure you'll be able to draw it completely, but you can train.

[He doesn't mean to be rude or say that he doesn't think she's strong. People not from the Two Rivers usually can't use one steadily, or even draw it all the way. It might take years for her to be able to use it as well as someone raised in their village.]

[Well, she does make a face at first. She doesn't like the implications of his words, but she has to admit that there are definitely bows out there that aren't for her; and she really isn't strong enough to use them. There's no special exception here, though it doesn't really make any sense...]

I'd love to learn. And I intend to keep training, but...

If we're making one for me, doesn't it stand to reason that we'd make sure I could use it right?

[He'd...kinda expected that, but he rubs the back of his neck.]

Well, the only type of bow we know how to make is a Two Rivers Longbow. If we use the wood that's considered to be the best for it [They're going to use that wood. You can't convince them not to.] and make it as close to what we'd make it back in our world as we can, there'll be less slack in the string than a different longbow. And we usually cut the staves about two hands taller than the person who'd use it.

[Does it make more sense now?] We don't really know how to make any other kind of longbow. Maybe you'd be able to use a string with more slack, but apart from that I don't think we'd be able to change a bloody thing. Even archers from other places in our world have trouble drawing our bows back all the way and keeping it there if they can manage that. Few can.

[Oh boy it's like being in class all over again--

Okay no not really. This is...actually pretty interesting stuff, so she finds herself listening with no inclination to interrupt. She's never heard of the Two Rivers' Longbow -- certainly nothing you could find in Tartarus or the Abyss of Time, and certainly nothing Kurosawa-san ever offered.

Less slack sounds like a pain, but it is how it is...]

I think I get it. [...As much as she can, anyway. She's thinking over his explanation and running it through again in her head.]

Sorry if that explanation was a bit hard to follow. I could try drawing out the plans for one, like I've done for the crossbows, since that might help...And we'll help you train if you choose to and don't mind.

[Wouldn't want to offend her more on accident--He does have four sisters and he's dealt with Aes Sedai. He doesn't want to offend a girl (especially one that can fight) if he can help it. Even if he seems to suck at not offending them.]

[She doesn't seem to take any offense, especially not since he'd humbled himself and apologized. If only more men would do that.]

That'd be great-- and I think a plan would really help.

[There's a pause; she'd really meant that it would help her, but the more she thinks about it...]

I mean, we should have one anyway, if we're really gonna make it from scratch.

[He'd only really done it because of his wife, mother, and four sisters. Even if he barely remembers much about the last five. And those Aes Sedai that were half-way decent...

He doesn't remember if they'd made plans when they were younger, but he knows they didn't with the start of Mat's bow...]

I guess you have a point there. I'll start working on that then.

[There's something kind of hard to read in his expression. Maybe it's because he's trying to remember, but either way, Yukari nods reassuringly.]

Will you need any help with that?

Well...I'll need to know how tall you are. I don't think there's anything else I'd need help on.

[Apart from conversions if her world doesn't use the same measurements...He's made plans for weapons before after all.]

Oh, sure.

[. . . She thinks about it for a moment, but can't really think of any reason to keep her height from him. It would be important, after all.]

Um, I'm about a hundred and fifty-nine centimeters . . . if that means anything to you.

[She can do conversions too. Hm, although she really hasn't checked her height in a while.
