[Rin looks surprisingly distant and thoughtful today. He's lacking his two usual modes - growling and pissed off or cheerful and derpy. He's just sort of... there.

As much as he wanted to believe it wasn't going to bother him, what Maka revealed is getting to him. And it's not even necessarily the relation to the other two that's bothering him. It's more the other questions he has on his mind.

But for the public post, he has a purpose aside from that.

Hey uh... if anyone wants any free lunches already made and you don't wanna bother with the lines at the restaurants today, I grabbed a buncha leftovers from the ball we had frozen and made some. I got way more than even everyone in the Villa is gonna eat, so I figured I'd just give 'em away.

[He holds one up. It's got a rather interesting assortment, not strictly Japanese since there was a pretty good assortment of cultures represented in the food at the masquerade. But whatever, they still look damn good. And Rin has enough bento boxes behind him on the counter to feed about twenty people. How the hell does he do that?

[Rin holds up a picture Amaimon.]

And he's harassin' you or whatever, just send him my away, okay? I'll deal with him.

[He pauses, then continues with with quite a bit of reluctance in his voice, with a tone of some one who is struggling to accept something but knows that he has to sooner or later.]

Just... just tell 'im "little brother" is lookin' for him.

[He goes to turn off the SFC, but stops and frowns, switching the filter one last time.]

[He fidgets, tail sweeping low to the ground next to him.]

But if I tell you all this, you gotta promise me it ain't gonna go any further than us.

[He takes a deep breath, letting it out slowly before he starts.]

When I said Yukio wasn't himself... I didn't just mean the curse that was goin' on that week. There's... somethin' else. And... he doesn't know that I know about it.

[It feels strange to be saying this, and Rin idly wonders if Yukio felt similar when he finally had to tell everyone the truth of their origins. The same truth that had been hidden from Rin for fifteen years.]

...a split-personality, perhaps? Or is this related to the 'demon'-magic on your world? It's... truthfully difficult for me to follow this, Rin.

No, that ain't it...

He's... yehknow how the coral likes to fuck up things and bring people from different times and shit? It's... that. Yukio is from a few months before I got dragged here... right when somethin' started to happen to him.

[Rin's hands shift on his legs where he had rested them, curling in to fists. If Alister looks close enough, he'll see him shaking.]

He's... changin'. He thought he was unaffected by the fact that we're both sons of Satan, but he was wrong. And it's... doin' somethin' to him that I don't know how to stop. Or help.

Insanity.

[Even if he wasn't familiar with most of the going-ons in Rin's universe, that was a trait he was more than a little familiar with. And he can also see how deeply this change is affecting the boy, so the Lombax gives a momentary silence as he thinks things over.]

Sometimes... there's not much you can do, other than allow it to happen. People who slip into that state of mind, it's. Just near-impossible to bring them out of it. Or you need something terrifying enough to knock some sense into them.

I just don't want to think of what that 'terrifying' thing could be.

[Talking from experience there, Azimuth?]

[That... is not what he wanted to hear. After he fought so hard to bring Yukio back himself the first time, to know that in Vatheon just because the situation changed, it's likely going to be impossible to do it again... ?

He jumps up, knocking his sword over on accident.]

I... I can't accept that there's nothin' I can do for him! He's still my brother! I don't give a fuck about Amaimon and Mephisto bein' related to me through that flamin' bastard! Yukio is my only brother as far as I'm concerned!

Don't tell me it's impossible! I've done it before! I brought him back when Satan possessed him! I--...

[And then he just... stops. And sits back down, burying his face in his hands.]

I brought him back, but that's not gonna happen this time... it's different here and I don't know what to do... I don't wanna fight my own brother but if Yukio changes in to somethin' we can't control...

[Alister waits for Rin to finish, watching the boy's actions, knowing his desperation.

It's something he'd seen in Ratchet, back at the Orvus Chamber, back when the Elder had completely and fully lost his mind for a futile notion. And it hurt, to have to watch someone break down all over again, over something that could not be controlled.

It was hopeless. It was heartbreaking.]

[His tone is low, serious.]

You're speaking to one who had to die in order to find common sense. I know the inner workings of the unstable, I've seen my own Lombaxes fall victim to similar fates after the Great War. It's a slow process, and rarely ever pleasant.

[The General leans over the table, attempting to look the half-demon in the eyes.]

But if you want to fight it, I'll be at your side. With any luck, we can prevent it from happening in the first place. And... hopefully, before someone is hurt.

[Rin lowers his hands, staring back at Alister. It's clear just how afraid he is for Yukio. He finally got him back, and there's a chance he'll lose him all over again. For all the bravado he puts on, for all he tries to act like this stuff can just roll off his shoulders, he really is terrified of losing the one person left of his family.

But Alister is willing to help, and that's what he wanted.

When he speaks again, his voice is weak, and it cracks a bit.]

Thank you... jiji...

[...he was still so young, even for an abnormal being.

He shouldn't have to face this at all. But he couldn't think of the 'what-ifs'. Rin was facing this, the possibility of having to end his own brother's life. And what more could he do, than support his friend?

The Lombax rises from his seat, crossing the gap between the two of them. And without a word, the old Lombax kneels down, carefully wrapping his arms around the smaller form, then pulling the boy forward into an embrace.]

Erf--...

[The hug surprised him, and he just sits there, rather stunned that it happened.

It takes him a good minute to shake it off, but he does eventually return the embrace. He's still shaking, but he's calmer now.]

...we'll take care of this. I assure you.

Everyone's going to be alright.

Y-yeah, well... just... make sure you ain't gettin' in over your head... lemmie take on as much of this as I can.

[Because he wouldn't be Rin if he wasn't demanding to take the world on his shoulders, one way or another.]

I could ask the same of you. Do you even have a plan?

Just... keepin' an eye on him. Tryin' not to piss him off too much. That seems to set it off the worst. Makes sense, I'm the same with my flames...

I would think that sets off anyone, Rin. [Orvus knows he's guilty of that himself, but shh.]

[As irritated as Rin sounds, there's a strange fondness underneath it all. But it fades as he continues, gaze going to the floor.]

[And his tone says to leave it at that, the Elder starting to rise to his feet.]

[He goes scrambling, picking his sword up first and then pushing the bento box over.]
