[ So. It's that time again, Vatheon. The new arrivals are coming.

This one is a particularly disgruntled young man, hair a soaking wet mess around his face, even covering his eyes. He lifts a hand to push the strands back against his head and he gives the SFC a look, flipping it around a couple times before he lets it settle back on his face again. ]

This is Suguro Ryuuji, Exwire, Tokyo Division, reporting--

[ But he stops and frowns, grumbling. ]

--Screw it. If there's anyone here from home, let me know you're alright.

[ BLIP goes the screen. He's going to be chilling in the plaza. ]

So you kill demons, but let them fight for you too?

It's not uncommon for half-demons to become exorcists. As long as they're able to retain their humanity, they can actually be a pretty huge asset.

[She looks like she's thinking about something before actually talking. ~~What a shocker.~~]

...Haven't heard of any, but I guess it could happen. They'd be watched like a hawk.

Yeah I bet! Wouldn't want something like that to get out of hand.

So what was that stuff you were spewing about earlier? About the bible and verses and whatnot.

Demons are divided up into different classes and types. When you know what that is, you can narrow down what gets rid of them. The vast majority are susceptible to what are known as fatal verses, which are passages from the Bible or holy scriptures.

[ Pause. ]

Uh... the Bible is the book for Christians. Not really sure what kind of religion aliens have...

Anyway, that's one of the things I specialize in. One of the meister classes I'm going for is Aria, and they utilize script.

Trolls don't have religion. We're a godless race. I guess that helps make us feel like bad about killing each other. [vriska pls]

It would've taken a while--[ read: forever ]--but, yeah, eventually, I would've recited the whole thing.

[ After taking drink breaks. And like... naps. ]

Is that all you can do? I would think if you were in a battle and I were really a demon I would just want to rip your tongue out so you couldn't talk anymore.

It leaves you kinda open.

You usually work in teams. Aria tend to be protected on the battle field.

But, no, that's not all I can do. I'm also training to be a Dragoon.

[ ... ]

They're the heavy artillery division, basically. Guns, flame throwers, holy water grenades...

Ah.

[She blinks.] That sounds soooooooo much cooler! Wow.

You're shaping up to be a real solider, huh?

It's not an easy war we're fighting.

[ SHRUG

~~hell yeah he's so cool~~ ]

No war ever is. You lose a lot. [Not like she's ever been in a war, but fighting to survive counts somewhere, right?]

Do you think you'll win?

[ He actually falls quiet at that, leaning back in the seat he's in, his arms folding over his chest. ]

I'm not sure this is a war that'll ever have an ending. I mean... defeating Satan would stall it out for a while, sure, but it'd probably just be a matter of time before another one rose up to take his place.

So the best that we can hope for is to... keep people safe.

Satan's the big one, right? [She remembers being told about him. Faintly, anyways.]

So then what's the point? It just seems so... so depressing! You fight and fight and for what? To save a few people? What about all the people you lose on the battlefield?

[She runs a hand through her hair. It was getting long ago, thankfully.] If you think you can solve a problem by fighting it, trust me. It doesn't work for very long. [She would know first hand.]

Because if we didn't fight... there'd be nothing left to fight for.

[ And that's what's important, here. If the exorcists just gave up, the demons would win, and then there'd be nothing left. People would die, civilizations would crumble... ]

And this way, people get to keep living their lives, unaware that the thing that goes bump in the night? Actually exists.

How human of you. [Not selfless or brave. Just human.]

How old are you anyways?

Probably. But there are worse things to be.

[ SHRUG ]
