[ OMG OMG OMG you guys! THE SFC IS RECORDING! AAAAAAAAAAAAAA -- ... ahem. It's cooking with Sophie today, apparently. She's talked about crablettes, but that's not what's on the menu. Actually, it appears to be cake - and with her is none other than her beloved not!mom, Cheria. Sophie is even wearing a cute little apron with the words, "Kiss the Cook" across the front. She's also carrying another apron for Cheria. This will become important in a moment. ]

Cheria and I are going to make cakes today, so we can share with everyone who wants one.

[ Happy Happy. A-although Sophie, do you not realize how many cakes that would be ._.a ]

Cheria says it can be messy to make a cake, so I have to wear this over my clothes. I don't know why you have to kiss a cook though. Does that happen a lot?

[ Because do not want. She turns to Cheria after a moment, holding up a blue apron. ]

Here Cheria, I found this one for you. [ Enjoy your 'Hands Off My Sexy Behind' apron, Mom. ]

We're going to make cakes with chocolate, and cakes with apples, and cakes with crabs and fish. Mithos, do you want one too?

[ So put your requests in now before someone plays damage control. Also say hello to Pinchy, the live crab she found when she went to the water. And as she's turning away from the SFC she offhandedly comments to the other woman. ]

Cheria, what does a "sexy behind" look like? Is it like a peachbutt?

How are you going to make crablettes and crab cakes without the oven?

[ Hrm. That is a puzzle. ]

Can I make them cold? [ ... well that might be more "raw" than cold... ]

Eww.

I mean you could, but I don't think they would taste very good.

[ What is that reaction Malik. :D Sophie thinks for a moment, and then pings! ]

Yuri. I was going to tell him how to make crablettes, so he can use the stove when Cheria isn't here. [ Beam! ]

Yuri? Yuri Lowell? We spoke just a bit back when Hubert was... injured.

Sophie, wouldn't it be easier if I or someone else here made them?

Or... [He pauses again.]

I could teach you how to use an oven.

Yes, that's him.

[ A pause. Well yes, it would be easier, she supposes - but it's the offer that gets a blink. ]

You can? I want to learn how then. [ She can help Cheria cook, and she can cook with Yuri and Tifa too! ]

It's easy. There are only two rules.

The first rule is: ovens are hot. Don't burn yourself.

The second rule is: ovens are hot. Don't leave food unattended. You could start a fire or burn your food.

[ She is an attentive student. Ovens are hot. Simple enough! ]

That's why Cheria wears the aprons and those gloves, right?

The apron helps keep food from getting on your clothes and the gloves help with getting things out of the oven. Right.

There are only a few knobs. This one controls how the oven heats up...

[He points to the knob that says 'bake,broil,etc.'.]

... and this one controls the temperature. For your average baking needs you can just set it on 'Bake' and most things cook at around 350-400 degrees.

Each of the heating coils on the range has a knob too. [He points to those as well.]

[ She watches everything very intently, fascinated. She'll get to make things for Cheria too, soon! Looking at the knobs as he points them out, she raises a hand and indicates two in particular as well. Bake and Broil in particular. ]

Those two are different. How come?

It's how the heat is applied.

Broil is a little like grilling something. The oven has very high heat, and it's meant to make a crispy surface. If you're not careful, you can easily burn things on that setting.

Bake evenly distributes the heat and you're able to control the temperature better. I would stick with the 'Bake' option until you become more experienced with an oven. It's also the setting you'll want to use for most baking - like crab cakes.

((OOC: Assuming they're not deep fried! Mmmmm...))

[ She hms thoughtfully, nodding - but it's the bake setting Malik mentions that interests her most. ]

So I can make crablettes for Cheria, like she makes for me?

[ Mmm, deep fried crab cakes. ]

Of course you can! Crablettes are the easiest to make.

Do you know how it's done?

[ Sophie shakes her head. ]

No, I don't. But I saw pictures of it in the recipe book.

If you can find it, let's take a look. We can work through it together.

((OOC: Crablettes = crab omlettes? I have my own ideas on what it is, but don't know if you have a particular thing in mind.))

Okay. [ She trots on over to the recipe book in fact, bringing it back over to Malik as she flipped pages in search of the treat. ]

Here it is.

[ ooc: That pretty much what I was thinking it was, yah :D That or really flat crab cakes, but I was leaning more towards the omelette version. ]

[Malik takes a quick look through the recipe.]

No problem, assuming we have some crab around.

You find the crab, and I'll gather the eggs, milk, and butter.

I have one. I got it when I went up to the beach.

[ Not necessarily for the crablettes, but just because it intrigued her with its pinchy claws and its beady eyes. She'd left it in the sink, in fact, and she retrieves the cranky snapper. You know how to kill a crab right Captain? ]

He likes to bite. [ Or pinch, reallly. ]

[Fresh crab is even better, but he hadn't been expecting it.

He laughs.]

Did Cheria see this?

Hold on to it for a minute. We'll need to get some water boiling.

[He does know how. He gets a pot, fills it with water and sets it to a boil. He does it somewhat slowly and makes sure Sophie can see what he's doing.]

[ Sophie nodnods cheerfully at the question and the laughter. ]

She didn't like it. It tried to pinch her. [ RIGHT ON HER PEACHBUTT. But Sophie was vigilant and prevented it from happening. So, holding the crab that will soon be a delicious snack, she stepped closer to Malik, leaning up curiously to watch what he's doing with intense staring. ]

[Who wouldn't want to pinch her right on her peachbutt!

As the water heats bubbles begin to make it to the surface, and shortly after the water begins boiling.]

Okay, now that we have the water boiling. In goes the crab.

[He steps aside to let Sophie do it.]

Gently lower it in. Don't drop it or you'll splash boiling water on yourself and get burned.

[ Sophie wouldn't! That's weird. Who does that? ]

Okay.

[ Bye bye Mr. Pinchy! We hardly knew you! But as Malik instructs, Sophie carefully reached up with gloved hands and let the flailing crab slide into the water. What a world, what a world - ! ]

I don't think he likes the hot water.

[No, but I could see her poking curiously.]

[Mr. Pinchy does not like hot water at all. He quickly stops any movement and begins turning a shade of red.]

A lot of seafood doesn't. Fortunately, they don't feel it for long.

Do you want to help me with the eggs while our delicious friend cooks a little?

[ Sophie stops staring into the pot as he starts changing color and going still, then turns to Malik. ]

Yes. What do you want me to do?
