Look what I found!

[That sure is a guinea pig Link's holding up to the SFC. The guinea pig, to its credit, seems pretty chill - it twitches its nose at being picked up, but is otherwise rather relaxed. Link sets him down again in his lap, readjusting the SFC a little.]

I found him in my closet this morning. But I don't know what he is or what he eats or anything, and I think he's hungry.

[These are the eyes of a sad, hungry guinea pig who's just spent the night in a closet. Someone help?]

If anyone knows anything about them, let me know!

[Action]

[A short while after that broadcast, Link can be found in the kitchen, offering the guinea pig different treats to try and see what actually... works. Said guinea pig is happily chilling on the table on a tea towel, watching Link in something that could possibly be bemusement.]

Okay! I guess it's not like the weather's bad, huh? [He gives her a grateful smile, then tucks the guinea pig under his arm and goes to the fridge.]

Rabbits eat carrots, right? I saw a picture of one eating a carrot.

Yes, they do. I would offer it a variety of vegetables and plenty of water. We can ask Duke what it is, he knows quite a bit about animals.

[He'll probably even have a conversation with it. Maybe having it around won't be so terrible.]

Okay. Hopefully he'll like them! [Now, what do they have... collecting a carrot, some lettuce, and a few grapes.]

[Hmm. That is a pretty big carrot in comparison to the little, little guinea pig... Link sets it down on the tea towel again, and chops a bit of carrot off.]

Have you seen any of the animals around? I saw a lot that I didn't see in Hyrule.

[Now, what would be a good-sized water bowl...]

Really? I think I might have seen a pony and a goat, but nothing unusual like this... thing.

[Not that goats were all that common in Hyrule, but they were present in the world - just not that particular country (yet).]

It is to be expected, though. Vatheon is connected to many worlds, we will see lots of animals we are unfamiliar with.

I saw a pony too! They're much smaller than horses. [He considers for a moment.] Are there any goats in Hyrule? I never saw any. And the man who runs a lot said there's no rabbits left any more. They all got hunted.

[That's a sad expression there, yeah.]

There are still rabbits in other areas of the world. Goats, as well. Our world is more than just Hyrule, after all.

[Zelda was taught about other places even if she never visited. She'd like to. Someday, she wants to see the whole world.]

That's good. I've seen some here, they're really cute.

[Guinea pig gets a scritch, and he puts the plate of chopped veggies and grapes in front of him.] Do you think anyone else from our world will come here? Not just from different times, just from places that aren't Hyrule. [He's... not thinking about why seeing those places himself is longer an option for him.]

It's definitely possible! I think it would be nice. There are Zora who live in the sea as well, they'd do quite well here.

[More than anyone, though, she wants Impa or Sheik to show up...]

[Oh, he knows that feeling. If Saria or Navi or Sheik, Sheik properly, arrived, he'd be completely happy.]

[He makes a wordless sound at that.] The sea is so big... is it like that on Hyrule as well? When I first saw it on the island, it looked like it went forever.

[She tries desperately to not think of what Ganondorf told them of the future, but she's not too successful. The sea on Hyrule...]

If you take a boat out, you can't see anything but water. It's massive.

[Oops. He said the wrong thing, didn't he.]

That must be weird... I can't picture not being able to see land. I like trees too much. [Safe to say this Link's definitely a landlubber.]

I haven't been out to sea myself, I only saw pictures in books.

[She left the palace and hid inside Sheik, but Zelda hasn't done much traveling at all on her own.]

[He nods at that - Hyrule is rather landlocked.] I saw it when I went up to the island. Hyrule Field looked huge when I first went out there, but when you get up the hill, you can see the castle and the mountains. This went on forever.

Not literally forever, but certainly further than the eye can see. That's why sailors have to navigate by the stars - there are no distinguishing features above the water at sea.

[Swimming around with a Zora tunic on is all good fun, but being surrounded by nothing but water... she's fairly certain she wouldn't like it.]

Really? [He sounds positively fascinated at that.] But the stars change - there's ones when it's winter that you can't see when it's summer, and ones in summer that you can't see in winter. Wouldn't it be confusing?

Only certain stars are used for navigation, though I'm sure they're familiar with both sets. It is more of a constant than anything else out on the water.

[Or so she's read. Zelda has a habit of talking about things that she's read in books like they're fact, though.]

Yeah - I guess the moon would be hard to follow if it was a new moon, huh? [...Actually. That's a good question.] How come the moon does that anyway?

[Sorry, Zelda. Do feel free to refer him to a science class.]

The light from the moon is actually reflected from the sun. A planet casts a shadow on the moon depending on its position in relation to the sun. When the planet completely blocks the light from the sun, a new moon happens.

[Send him to a science class when she could just explain it herself? Never!]

[He's still looking a little blank, Zelda. Sorry.] Oh. Um... a planet is like a world, right? Vatheon's in a different planet to Hyrule... I think?

[...oh, Link.]

That's right. We aren't on our home world here, it's another world entirely. Have you ever seen a globe? There are a few here in Vatheon, though they're mostly souvenirs. I've only seen globes that depict Earth.

I think so. They look like round maps, right? [But not a single thing is recognisable. He pauses thoughtfully.] Maybe there's a globe which has Hyrule and our world on it.

I would really love to see one! Travel is somewhat limited on our world so I've never seen a complete map. I wonder how big it actually is? Maybe someone in the past or future has it documented and we'll be able to see it eventually! Oh, I should check the library!

[She very nearly does that before glancing back at the creature.]

Ah... we should get materials to build your new friend some sort of hutch first, I suppose.

[Link laughs a little at her enthusiasm, giving the guinea pig a brief cuddle.] Okay. I've never built a hutch before, though. I want to make a really good one for him!

I cannot say that I have either, but it should be fairly simple if we follow some directions.

[On second thought about the library...]

I could probably find some plans at the library.

[Always with the library. Link smiles a little.] Okay. Should we both go? D'you think they'll let me take him in with me?
