Whew! That sure was an extended nap I took. Well, I woke up a few days ago but I didn't really have anything of substance to say. There were a ton of kids running around, but I guess that is supposed to be normal here? Strange things happening?

[She has had to let go a little, she knows this isn't normal. She doesn't like it either. This entire place still really made absolutely zero sense to her. She could have a lot to say to Jake, Roxy, and Dirk. The living room was a little untidy when she finally decided to rise again. But that wasn't really anything of importance and she could have scolded them directly. But no! What she has to say is a bit more important. She fixtes her SFC camera so it's facing the pile of goodies on the counter.[]

I have jars of cookie mix just laying around. I meant to hand them out around the holidays but never got the chance. They come with instructions and only require about three extra ingredients not in the jar. If you would like one please contact me, and I would be happy to take it out to you.

[One last question...]

Golly. There is one more thing befuddling my noggin! About that "extended nap" [air quotes] I took. Is that normal? Normally people don't sleep for more than a week. [This is the week Jane starts to question the "normality" of Vatheon...]

[She wonders if Dirk has eaten today. She might want to go cook something just in case he hadn't.]

He was a rather rambunctious child!

[She ponders that.]

I hope none of us have to go through that uncertainty.

[Chances are that he has eaten but it was complete junk food. Dirk does not have the best habits.]

Don't we all. Fortunately, we haven't had the back-and-forth that some people get, but there's no guarantee it won't happen. To put it bluntly, we've been lucky.

[Of course. Well, she'll go start something then. That's why Dirk will hear shuffling.]

We're going to try our hardest to continue the lucky streak. Whiplash is probably not something we need.

[A beat.]

Working on something important?

[He would see it, if he gave the SFC his full attention, but that is not likely to happen.]

Rebuilding. Most of my robots got destroyed over Christmas.

I'm starting lunch, I'll bring some out and join you if you don't mind.

[She actually wants to offer to help...]

Is there anything I could do to help you?

Not the robotics, but there's plenty of rebuilding shelves and shit that needs to be done. You up for that?

[If it meant spending a little quality friend time with Dirk, she would definitely do it.]

Of course I'm up for that. But first we're gonna have you take a break!

[She's making sandwiches. Really good sandwiches!]

Huh?

[He is not actually aware that there is a need for him to take a break. Make him, Jane.]

[At that point she was bringing a sandwich and an orange soda out and setting it right in front of Dirk.]

You heard me. Take a break and eat lunch.

[She is a stubborn lady. Don't even try to tell her no.]

Oh.

[He shrugs and picks up the orange soda. It's a good way to bribe him into eating, and really, now that he actually pays attention to it, he was starting to get hungry.]

Guess I can spare the time.

[Plus Jane wasn't going to take no for answer, so that was a positive in plan "Get Dirk to eat".]

You guess?

[She chuckles.]

You're out here so much though.

I'm always out here because there's always a lot to do.

[He shrugs as he takes a sip, then picks up the sandwich.]

I go to the Defense Force too, you realize.

You should come in once in a while though, and not just to lock yourself in your room or take a shower.

[She really wants to take a shower at a decent hour someday Dirk.]

Ah, that's right, you do!

I don't lock myself in my room.

[... It's true. Roxy will find some way in when she wants to, so he stopped bothering.

As for showering... never going to happen. At least there's usually hot water left.

And now he's just going to start in on the sandwich. Someone is more hungry than he realized.]

Are you sure? Sometimes I don't see you out of your room or the garage for days! Unless you have a meeting of course.

We will have to speak about your showering habits. She doesn't want to get up at four in the morning just to shower. Okay.

She grins and watches him.]

I can make you more food if you're still hungry after that.

Doesn't mean I'm locked in it. [He only locks the door if he really can't afford to have someone walking in. He knows better than to keep it locked all the time with Roxy around.]

Nah, this is enough. Thanks, though.

So I can just walk in any time I please?

[She wouldn't do that to him. But. Yeah. She's joking!]

[It might not get much of a reaction from him, but he wouldn't protest her being in his space.]

[She enjoys him in her space when they hang out. So it's okay. He's a cool guy to hang around.]

[She finishes her sandwich and sets the plate off to the side.]

Alright, alright. [a beat] Dirk, will you teach me about your robots?

[Dirk pauses in the midst of taking another bite out of his own sandwich.]

Sure I can, but mind if I ask why?

[She takes a sip of her drink and shrugs.]

I just want to understand how they work. I guess that and I've been doing poorly in my lessons for irony.

The irony is an essential part of being an honorary Strider, but I guess we can let it slide if you just get your robotics credentials.

[He sets aside his food and, after wiping his hands, turns back toward the robot he was working on.]
