nineteenth flame: video { fun with office chairs and fire

[Even though this feed is coming from one Rin Okumura's SFC, it seems to be focused on Death the Kid, leaning against a low wall outside the Villa. He's looking right, silently, at something off camera, intently focused on it. There's a good two minutes of nothing before he speaks.]

This really is a terrible idea...

[There's no actual response, verbally at least, but what does happen is... interesting to say the least. A blur of... mostly varying hues of blue goes zooming by at an impressive speed. Impressive if only because the person going by appears to be on a rolling office chair. Not something one would equate to speed. But Rin has got it going pretty damn fast because he's actually using his flames to propel himself across the stone entryway of the Villa like a rocket.

And it seems to be working pretty well. He's crouched on the seat, almost like a surfer, palms out and blasting his blue fire down at the ground, and so far appears to be maintaining decent balance. He even manages to zip back around with a gentle coaxing of his flames to the right, guiding the normally unwieldy chair in to a nice turn. He lets out a very loud whoop as he goes zooming by Kid even faster, prompting the reaper to just roll his gold eyes and suddenly walk off.

Rin doesn't notice he's gone, and makes a few more laps (with varying cries of victory) before Kid returns, a bag of ice and first aid kit in either hand.

He knows where this is going.

And true to his silent prediction, Rin decides to pick up a little more speed the next time around by increasing the intensity of his flames, and just as he gets past where the SFC can view, there's a very loud CRASH!

Kid moves off his perch and follows the path Rin took.]

I warned you, Rin.

Owwww...

...that still looked kinda fun.

And highly dangerous. Don't go following his example.

I couldn't anyway.

It wasn't that bad a fall, was it?

Not for someone with as hard a head as Rin, but I can't speak for the safety of anyone else.

[A beat of silence, and:]

His case is unique.

[HEY.]

Yeah, I know. He's pretty tough.

You two know each other?

[Oh, they haven't been acquainted yet! Although distracted by his efforts to clean Rin up (and possibly apply a bandaid somewhere), Kid's golden gaze briefly focuses on the SFC with genuine interest.]

I don't believe we've met. My name is Death the Kid.
coolerthansora: (hadn't thought of that)

We're friends.

I'm Roxas. ... Do I call you Death? [Even to Roxas this is kind of a strange name.]

[personal profile] symmetrophile 2013-01-23 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
Lord Death is my father. You may call me Kid, my other friends do.

[Because, yeah. Kid is just going to assume that since Roxas and Rin are friends, that he, too, is entitled to a shot at this friendship.

Spoiled bratty grim reapers.]

It's nice to meet you, Roxas.
coolerthansora: (thinking)

[personal profile] coolerthansora 2013-01-23 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
[Roxas misses the implication behind "other." You're just not friends with someone until there's been ice cream-- or the destruction of an ice cream shop, in Rin's case.]

Nice to meet you, too.

I guess you're not from Rin's world. You made friends here?

[personal profile] symmetrophile 2013-01-23 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
As far as I can tell, we're from very similar worlds. I may be wrong.

[But there were still distinct differences.]

I only met him here, in Vatheon.

Does your world have demons, too?

[personal profile] symmetrophile 2013-01-23 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, but not in the way that Rin's does.

[Fortunately for Roxas, he won't let a fellow inquisitive soul go without some answers.]

Rather... a corrupted soul that feeds on the souls of others would inevitably become a twisted monstrosity we call a Kishin. Stories would call them demons.

They're functionally similar, either way you look at it.

coolerthansora: (um)

[personal profile] coolerthansora 2013-01-23 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
...that doesn't sound like Rin at all.

[Sounds more like Heartless.]

[personal profile] symmetrophile 2013-01-23 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
That's because Rin, unlike most demons, defines himself by his humanity and strives to be the good person he is.

[And he's only half-demon, to boot. That makes him a pariah to certain groups in either demographic, Kid is sure.]

[Roxas frowns skeptically, but.]

I guess you'd know more about it.

[personal profile] symmetrophile 2013-01-26 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
[He read all about them in a book, so it must be true!]

I've done my homework. If you're interested by the subject, I have a book you can borrow.

Any friend of Rin's is welcome to my modest collection.
coolerthansora: (curious)

[personal profile] coolerthansora 2013-01-26 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Um. Thanks, but- I'd rather learn about people first-hand.

[personal profile] symmetrophile 2013-01-26 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[Learning in any form is great -- but without using books? At all?]

I suppose that's fair enough. After all, had I relied only on the information held within one book in particular, it might have altered my first impression.
coolerthansora: (simple tragedies)

[personal profile] coolerthansora 2013-01-26 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. And that can really suck sometimes.

[personal profile] symmetrophile 2013-01-23 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
[He's going to be withholding the makeshift ice-pack until he has dabbed at any scrapes with a cottonball soaked with hydrogen peroxide, and god help you if you try to resist, Rin.]

Anyone could have told you the risks of rolling office chairs. Honestly.

[personal profile] symmetrophile 2013-01-23 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
They don't roll around on them going mach one.

[Slight exaggeration. And this time, he might be laying on that cottonball a little harder.]

Just be glad you didn't run someone over.
