Day 312 - [Video | Full Sun]

[At first, Roxas's dreamworld doesn't seem all that terrible. He walks the streets of Twilight Town, with the warm glow of sunset catching the tops of the buildings, the space between in comfortable shadow.

Except that everything is much too still and quiet. Not a soul stirs all along Market Street, and the tram common is utterly deserted, the tram frozen at some point along its track. Only the sun seems to be moving, sinking farther behind the buildings, the shadows deepening. Roxas picks up his pace.]

Hayner! Pence! Olette?

[Each shout is softer and less certain. His voice echoes strangely in the silence, and somehow he knows, this time it's not going to work. It's not supposed to work.

Movement catches his eye and he turns-- A trio of Dusks ripple up out of nowhere and slither towards him. He takes a step back.]

No. I told you I wasn't going back.

[They don't acknowledge his words, but keep coming. Roxas calls Oathkeeper, reluctantly sinking into a fighting stance...]

[It takes a while for Roxas to waken. There's nothing startling in the dream: a world empty except for Nobodies. It leaves him feeling empty, like hasn't in a while, and he just lies staring up at the ceiling.]

[Rin has his sword resting against his shoulder, sheathed but ready. He doesn't know if he'll be attacked - it's a dream but it's also a memory, and not one he belongs in since it's obviously Roxas' past.

Which is why the question doesn't surprise him, and he calmly answers.]

A friend. Where don't you wanna go?

[Roxas doesn't let the keyblade vanish once the Dusks are gone, and turns to face Rin directly, still a little wary.]

...with the Organization. Are you- with that other guy?

[Rin notices the tenseness in his stance, and keeps his own relaxed, trying to appear as non-threatening as possible. Not easy for him to do.]

Ain't with anyone.

[Then, with a more concerned tone:]

Are they gonna hurt you?

[He sort of knows that Axel and some one else in the bubble belonged to... something once upon a time, but for the moment Rin is assuming they have nothing to do with who Roxas doesn't want to go with.]

Axel said...

[That he had orders to kill him. Roxas trails off, regarding Rin with more confusion now than suspicion. If he's not with that guy and he's not with the Organization, then...]

How did you get here? Do you know a way out?

[Axel. He thought so...]

I don't know how I got here... [He shakes his head, looking around. He knows it's a dream, but hell if he knows how to get them both out of it.]

Oh...

[His shoulders slump a bit, and then he looks in the direction of the old mansion.]

I guess there's nowhere else to go.

[Rin's gaze falls on the mansion as well, and while he has no idea why it happens, he feels a strange crawling across his skin that makes him shudder. Something about that place just feels... off.]

... I'll go with you then.

[Roxas nods and starts towards it, glancing again at Rin.]

Did I- know you before?

[Rin follows, tucking the sword back in the red case on his back.]

No.

[He smiles a little]

You'll know me later.

Huh?

You seem familiar though...

Yeah, I know...

[He doesn't elaborate though. He doesn't know how Roxas will react if he says it's a dream, and he'd rather not freak the poor kid out more than he already is.]

[Roxas runs a hand through his hair.]

Everything just gets more confusing.

Yeah...

But if the only way out is through there then what choice do you have?

I don't know if it is the way out.

[Rin turned around at that, looking back through the forest path that led up to the mansion.

Anything beyond the trees just looked dark.]

Goin' back don't look like much of an option...

That's what I thought.

[He pauses, just as the trees begin to clear and the mansion comes into clearer view.]

But... I feel like something bad's going to happen if I keep going. Like I've done this before.

... well maybe it'll be different this time.

[He can try to be optimistic.]

I wish I could remember...

[He shakes his head though and continues up the hill to the mansion gate.]

Yeah... I'unno what to tell you, 'cept keep movin' forward...

[His usual philosophy on life isn't really meant to be taken so literally, but it's all he's got.

He follows, a step or two behind Roxas. He doesn't want him to get too far ahead and possibly out of sight.]

[Roxas doesn't reply. More Dusks appear outside the mansion's gate, but this time he doesn't stop to fight them, instead smacking open the lock on the gate and pushing it open. He turns back to make sure Rin's coming.]

Come on.

[The creatures are weird, and not like any demon from back home, which makes Rin wary of them. He doesn't know what will take them out aside from smacking them around, and even if he has a sword it's still enough to be worried about.

He keeps his hand near the case at his back, but follows silently, keeping a close eye to make sure none of them come leaping their way.]</small.

[Luckily the Dusks don't follow them inside.

The interior of the mansion is as silent as the rest of the town, and the stillness is even heavier. Roxas pauses again, looking up the stairs, first towards the room on the left and then to the right.]

I think it's through here.

[It's the silence that Rin hates. It's thick, and makes his fur stand up.

But there's a nod to the comment, Rin trusting Roxas' instincts to follow.]

[Up the stairs and through the door is the library, and in the dream the secret passage is already open, leading back down into the facility beneath the mansion. Roxas freezes for a moment and then picks up his pace to go inside.

There it is, the computer that brought him here and traps him here. His fist clenches around his keyblade, but he dismisses it and approaches the machine. The sense of familiarity is growing stronger, almost a tangible memory.]

This is it. This is where it has to change.

[Dream or not, the area feels unsettling to Rin. Even with the noises of the computer, there's a silence about the whole area that's tense. His fingers twitch, and he silently takes his sword back out. He doesn't like this...]
