03 - some questions [video]

[Shiro is nice enough to wait until after all the dreamtroubles to pose this question to the network.]

Just curious, but how many of you here have jobs? A lot of stuff is free, so nobody really has to do anything, but it seems like it'd get boring if there wasn't work to do every day.

[he may or may not be debating doing some real work, after two weeks of being lazy.]

It's... a complicated subject of history. Due to a rebellion that caused some trouble, the empress decided to keep all adult trolls off of the planet. This helped to separate them, limiting the chances that any organized resistance could begin. Meanwhile, from what I know of our history things did not particularly change for the children. You have to understand though, that our life-cycle is somewhat different from humans. We are born as grubs in the brooding caverns. Most grubs are culled, but some manage to pupate into the adult form. Those of us that do begin a series of trials. The survivors are adopted by a lusus naturae, monstrous creatures that live on our homeworld. Each of us is raised by a lusus, and as far as I am aware each of the Trolls here in Vatheon had a different type of lusus.

I hope that was sufficient to answer your question.

Good.

Regarding the fact that kids from your world are usually more concerned with their appearance... well, I wish the same were true for mine. Trolls in general are much more concerned with the utilitarian, especially when young. Coming here has opened up opportunities though. There are many people interested in properly crafted clothing, and from what I can tell, nobody else has the necessary skill to meet that demand.

I choose which commissions to take on, so I have control over my own work load. Usually I'm fine, unless I accidentally bite off more than I can chew. That rarely happens though. I'm rather careful with my choices, and I only have two contracts that necessitate continued work. Most of my jobs are for a single outfit. I even manage to have time to work on my own clothing, though in a pinch I set personal projects aside for the sake of professionalism.

Likewise. May I ask what prompted this line of inquiry?

That seems to be a problem common to everyone that comes here. Most people seem to be leaving behind some sort of tragedy or crisis... or at least some sort of excitement when they are brought here. At first this place seems like a nice break, but the constant calm starts to get to you. That was my motivation to start working, at least, and I know a few others that have done the same.
