[ There's nothing but a blur of blue at first, a muffled groan somewhere. ]

What in the actual fu--

[ A pause, a gasp, and then the sound of running feet. ]

Dirk!

[ THUD. A second later, the SFC that's on has tumbled out of the pocket it was in and lands on the ground, showing the current scene a little sideways.

Roxy's laying on top of Dirk, her arms wrapped awkwardly around him, and she has her face buried in his chest. They're wearing some interesting outfits (nice pants, Dirk), but that seems to be the last thing on their minds. ]

You're okay! I thought you weren't because fuck the Batterwitch but you are you're okay and I'm okay and nothing is going on and look! We're back and-- you know what I probably shouldn't be laying on top of you should I. Lemme just...

[ She caaaaaaaaaaassually slides off of him and picks up her SFC, shutting it again and turning it back off. ]

Done with him romantically or...just all together done?

[She's still frightened. So...frightened.] I wasn't expecting it either. I didn't really know what to think about him doing that.

[She only kissed back a little.]

Jesus, I don't know. Maybe if he can pull his shit together enough to act like a friend again, it'll just be a romantic Hindenburg.

[He rubs at his face, pushing up the shades a bit.]

I can't advise you on how to go through with it, but I'm not going to get angry or jealous if you decide you want to reciprocate with him.

[Oh god, Jane is feeling the pangs of guilt right now and she doesn't know what to do. Dirk was in love with Jake. Jake kissed her and proclaimed his love. She feels so bad. She feels so so so so bad.]

Dirk, I don't know what to do. I am as shocked as you.

[But just the fact that she is thinking about...you know, getting together with JAke is grounds enough for Dirk to be angry.]

Jane.

[Dirk starts, then hesitates. Folds his hands, stares down at them for a moment. Finally, he looks back up at her, it's obvious where he's looking even wearing the shades like he is.]

I tried to make it work back in our world, okay? I tried and it didn't work, and I am sure as hell not about to try again. Don't think you need to protect my feelings.

[Because they've already been hurt, and not by you, is the unsaid message.]

[Her eyes are already tearing up. She didn't want to be the metaphorical "homewrecker". Even if they weren't together at this point. She didn't want to protect his feelings like that, but when she gets this backed into a corner what else is she supposed to do?

She cares a great deal for Jake, and a great deal for Dirk. If she were to get together with Jake it would be highly obvious that Dirk would be a little let down. If she rejected Jake, there would be sour consequences as well.

But it isn't like she needs permission to date Jake or anything.]

I'm not protecting your feelings by saying that. I truly have no clue what direction myself nor Jake is even going to take this. But I want you to know that I care an enormous amount for the both of you, okay?

[She hears the message, but is misinterpreting it. She thinks this is her fault.]

If you need to figure it out, then talk to him. Or make him talk to you.

[Dirk moves down the couch to sit closer to Jane, and keeps looking at Jane. Finally, he reaches out cautiously to squeeze her hand.]

Something dumb such as liking Jake isn't nearly enough to ruin a friendship, Jane. trust me.

[It was a measured movement, and she could see that. But she is so proud of Dirk for being able to be touchy with people. A skill he literally hadn't obtained when they had first met in person back at home.]

I'll talk to him eventually. I'm just not ready to confront him after that. I don't know why he felt the need to do that.

[It was her first kiss after all! She barely had time to think about it. She tunrs her hand over ans grasps his.]

I wouldn't do something that would possibly upset you, just know that, alright?

[There's a lot of things he's better at after half a year in Vatheon, but he doesn't think that dating is one of them. He's not that eager to find out, either.]

Yeah, I know.

[That's the kind of person Jane is. And apparently not the kind of person he's turned into.]

[She squeezes his hand again. Jane never thought dating would have to be a topic of discussion. Sure, they had their crushes. But who knew they would have so much time...]

I'm sorry all of this happened.

Not your fault. "Shit happens" seems to be a law of the universe with us.

[He sighs out through his nose. Really, he can't wait for this to be done with.]

A lot more..stuff seems to happen with us than is really necessary.

[Sigh, she squeezes his hands again.]
