[ The SFC is on Yuri's bedside table, and the room is pretty dark, so there isn't much to see. One may be able to see the figure of one (1) Yuri Egin tossing and turning in her bed, though ... eventually, the tossing and turning is accompanied by whimpers and small, pained sounds. The SFC picture is a little lopsided, almost as though during her sleep at one point, she accidentally hit it and turned it on.

From what can be seen, it's fairly obvious that she's having a nightmare of some sort. The tossing and turning doesn't stop for several more minutes, but then, finally, she wakes up with a short shriek.

She sits up, breathing heavily for several moments, looking around to make sure that she's not still having her nightmare ... and then, she pulls her legs to her chest and curls up into a bit of a ball, resting her head on her knees. It's not the first time she's had this nightmare, but it's no less painful every time.

And as she doesn't realize her SFC is on, it just continues to record her as she recovers from yet another one of these damn nightmares ... ]

[ Her SFC-- Shit. Yuri's eyes widened, but then she slumped a little, looking away from him. ]

... I'm sorry you saw that.

[ She steps aside, allowing him the room to come inside if he wanted to. ]

Come on in. Do you want a drink?

N-no, it's okay, I just--

[Fuck this really is awkward. 'Hi Mom I saw you were suffering horribly and just came over on a whim to stand here like a dumb fuck with nothing to say'. That's basically what he's doing and he's kind of hating himself for it.

But his feet move before he has a chance to turn tail and bolt (which is probably for the best anyway) and he enters the apartment, closing the door behind himself.]

... are you okay?

[ She's off in the kitchen at this point, getting her son a glass of water. She laughs a little, but it's an exaggerated kind of laugh. She is definitely not okay. ]

Sure, sure! This happens all the time, that's all. It just doesn't get any nicer no matter how long it's been ...

[ She returns and sets down two glasses of water on the coffee table in front of the couch, taking a seat there and patting the space beside her to encourage Rin to join her. ]

[Rin watches her carefully. Ernst had said he looked more like Yuri than Yukio did, but in a moment like this she's acting more like Yukio.

"I'm fine, nii-san. It's just a few scratches. I have to be more careful!"

"It's nothing, I promise."

"I fell, it happens, nii-san. Besides, you're the one I'm always patching up."

"I'm fine, I'm fine, you're the one I have to look after," like he was some damn child that couldn't stop from running out in to the road.

All those times he brushed Rin off, because he was really hiding that he had been training as an exorcist since he was seven. Hiding that he had really known what Rin was all that time, hiding it because he wanted to protect him the way Rin had protected his little brother from bullies for so long.

It pissed him off, but there was no reason to get mad at Yuri for that.

Rin shook his head slightly to clear his thoughts and approached the couch, but he hesitated there, fidgeting with his hands inside the pocket of his hoodie.]

... what... were you dreamin' about?

[ The question caught her off-guard. She wasn't expecting Rin to actually ask about it. Her shoulders slumped a little bit, and she sighed, staring into her glass of water for several moments before answering. ]

Do you ... really want to know?

[ As much as she wanted to spare her son the details of that night ... if he wanted to know, he deserved to know. ]

[He finally moves to the couch, sitting down while giving her a serious look. Awkward as things have been so far, he knows eventually he'll have to move past it.

She could be gone one day, just like Kuro, like Kohaku's friends, Alister, Ratchet, countless others. He has one chance to get to know the woman who was responsible for bringing him in to the world, and even if he won't remember when he goes home, he knows some part of him would just know and hate himself more for missing that chance.]

I barely know you... I don't know anything about you, except... that little bit Yukio told me, right after--

... even if it sucks I still wanna know.

[ She moves a little, so that she's sitting facing her son on the couch. Yuri puts her glass of water down, then folds her hands in front of her as she thinks of how to start it. ]

I've ... been having these nightmares since waking up in this place. It's always about the same event in my life, just before you and Yukio were born.

[ And from the look on her face, it's a very painful thing to remember. ]

You know of your grandfather, right ...? My father?

[ If you don't, just remember that every time he talks, you hear "I'm a douchebag, I'm a douchebag, I'm a lying douchebag!" That ought to ring some bells. ]

[Yup. This is really gonna suck. But Rin said he wanted to hear it and he's not backing out now.]

... I knew him. Unfortunately. Probably the worst twelve hours of my life, actually.

[And he had to watch Shiro get possessed and die, so that says a lot.]

[ Yeah, she's not exactly happy about what she saw her father to do her boys, either. She had been watching from Gehenna, after all ... ]

Mn ... well. You know the kind of man he is, then. To make a long story short ... when he found out that I was carrying you and your brother, and that I had every intent of having and raising you, he obviously didn't take kindly to the idea. He had me put to trial by the Vatican, and they sentenced me to death. Burnt at the stake, like a witch.

[ She laughs a little, bitterly. ]

Obviously, the message I wanted to get across to them fell on deaf ears ... I tried, so hard, to tell them my side of things, but ...

[ She sighs, then continues. ]

Your father-- Ah, Satan ... he became so desperate to save me and you boys, he searched around for a vessel that could handle his presence long enough to free me. In the end, he killed a lot of people, trying to save me ... finally, he took over my father, and forced him to release me, telling me to run while I still had the chance.

There was blue fire ... dead bodies ... so much of it, everywhere ...

[ That's the part she has nightmares about. ]

My biggest fear during that time was that I would lose you and your brother ... that I wouldn't be able to bring you boys into the world. After that, I ran. I found a safe place ... and you and your brother were born.

[ And after that ... she died. Shortly after Shiro had found her and her newborn baby boys.

Yuri didn't realize she was crying again, as she told this to Rin. ]

[That... was not what he was expecting to hear. That was not what he wanted to hear. He knew she had died, he knew her death had something to do with Satan, and for a long time he had assumed the Lord of Gehenna was responsible for all of it, but Yukio in his oh so vague way had told Rin that wasn't the entire story.

When Yukio was planning on telling him the entire story remained to be seen, but for now...

Well. He knew. He knew and he hated Ernst all the more for it. He knew there was something very wrong with that man from the start but this more than confirmed it. He still despised Satan for what he did to Shiro, and for how he manipulated Yukio and tried to rain his hellfire down on Assiah. But he also wouldn't be alive if it weren't for what he did to save Yuri-- to save his mother.

Painful as it could be at times, Rin liked being alive. He had them both to thank for that. And Ernst to thank for making that day absolute, utter, literal Hell.

Shaking hands clenched in to shaking fists on his lap, eyes burning with furious anger. It was all he could do to keep himself from letting his flames out right there.]

That bastard... ! To his own daughter--! And after all that he still has the balls to manipulate Yukio an' me!

[ There wasn't much else Yuri could do about that, sadly. Her father was who he was. She straightened up a little, sniffled, and laughed. ]

W-Well, that's my Dad for you ...

[ Despite the laughter, tears still rolled down her cheeks. Even now, even after being dead for upwards of fifteen years, the memories of the entire experience freaked her out this much ... no matter how much she tried to let it roll off her shoulders, it still plagued her. ]

Tch--...! You shouldn't even call him that! No one who hurts their own children just for makin' their own decisions is a parent!

[Even in the late hour, Rin's voice rose, too angered to keep it down to a reasonable level. He knew she was crying, but just as with the volume of his voice he was simply too wrapped up in his emotions to do anything more than yell.

Ernst wasn't there to punch in the face repeatedly until he stopped moving, which was what Rin wanted to do, even if the man had been rightfully dragged to Gehenna kicking and screaming. It was an event he missed, and whether or not Ernst got what he deserved Rin couldn't help but feel that he deserved so, so much more.]

He can just... just rot in Gehenna! Forever! We're your family now and even if we all go back home we'll still be more of a family than he ever was to you!

[ Yuri looked upon her son fondly. Even though she knew she should have been trying to calm him down, she couldn't help but be touched by his words ... her father was certainly not the ideal father figure, but that was all the family she had known for a long time. When she started forming her own opinions on the way things were done ...

Well ...

There went her father.

Yuri's voice is quiet as she speaks again. ]

It makes me very happy to be a part of your family, Rin.

[ Because blood relations don't always mean you're accepted as family ... she had just proven that with the story of what her father had done to her. And since arriving here, she had felt almost as though her own sons couldn't accept her as part of their world. Shiro had been trying to make things a little easier, certainly, but ... It was a comfort to hear the words from Rin himself. She gently placed a hand on her son's arm, hoping that it would help him calm down a little ~~and not ruin the couch with his flames~~. ]

I am very happy to have this chance to get to know you and your brother. I thought, when I died, that I would never have that chance ...

[Rin's hand twitched, and while he had been able to keep the flames from erupting completely there was a noticeable, non-feverish warmth on his skin that indicated just how close to it his rage was pushing him.

His hand on her arm did calm him though, and he forced a few deep breaths in through his nose, face going flushed in slight embarrassment. He really hadn't meant to get that upset.]

Y... yeah well... Vatheon is... good at that...

[Mutter grumble you saw no righteous indignation of what your father did to you tsun tsun]

This city may not be home, but ... I'm very fortunate to be here. I'm grateful for the second chance I have, to be with you and Yukio.

[ She gently rubs his arm, trying to be motherly and calm him down. Yuri hasn't completely stopped crying, but she's definitely calmed down a little at this point. ]

And ... really, it makes me feel that much better, hearing you say yourself that you want to be my family.

[Seeing your son damn near rage himself in to a blue ball of fire and anger over something that was done to you sixteen years ago is good for that.

But Rin is glad she's not as upset now, even if that was not the way he had intended any of this to go down.

He sighed, actually feeling tired for the first time since waking up early. Outside in the city, it was still dark, with nothing but streetlamps giving the bubble any light. The sun might have been coming up over the sea above, but it would be a long while before light reached down to where they were.]

Well... I ain't gonna get any other chance, am I? I'd be stupid to not try. Even if it is still kinda... weird...

[ She can see he's feeling a bit tired, and she tries to gently pull her son so that she's got an arm around him and he's resting against her side. It's a bit of an awkward attempt at being mommy, but ... it feels right enough. Come, Rin, use your mother as a pillow. ]

I guess we'll just have to hope the weirdness fades after a while ...

[It is awkward, especially since Rin is not a small teen by any means, and Yuri is the same size she was when she died. He's tired enough, though, that once he's pulled over he really can't resist much. He did get woken up long before his usual length of sleep was over after all.]

Mmn... still gonna try...

Good. I'll try, too.

[ He's her big boy now. Yuri tries to make this as comfortable for him as she can, shifting a little bit until something works. Now that her initial nightmare is over, and the high emotions of telling Rin what had happened all that time ago were out of the way, she was getting tired again herself. Yuri's hand gently rubs Rin's arm as they settle together on the couch. She wants to coax him back to sleep. ]

We'll make it work somehow, all right?

Yeah... I know we will...

[He was starting to doze off, and he knew he was way too tired to even try walking home on his own, but thinking of home made him realize he did kind of take off without giving Maka any notice. She was asleep, but her SFC would work for notifying her at least.]

Nn... hang on, I gotta--...

[He fumbled for his SFC in his hoodie, pulling it out and managing a very short text message to his girlfriend. That done, he tucked it back away and slumped back over.]

[ She continues to try and coax him back to sleep, only letting up a little when he went to send his message. ]

Did you let Maka know?

[ She had a feeling that was what was going on. She didn't know Maka very well but she knew Rin was very attached to her, so ...

As soon as he finished with that, she started rubbing his arm gently again, trying to help him relax a bit more. Mommy instincts took over bigtime. ]

Mhm... didn't want her to freak out...

[It's mumbled quietly, already so near sleep that Rin can barely manage even that sentence. He curls up, not minding the affectionate arm rubbing at all. His tail twitches a few times, but eventually stills as he finally falls asleep.]
