[If you happen to be anywhere near the Villa, or in the main bubble and looking upwards at just the right moment, you'll see an interesting thing. Just before noon, an explosive shell of some sort gets shot up into the sky, exploding just below the limits of the bubble. It's not a very impressive explosion, and in reality it is more of a loud 'pop' than anything else. It's pretty easy to miss it, but it's out there for anyone who can see it.

Much closer to the Villa, the same explosion can be seen, though it is a bit louder since it is directly overhead. For those people close to the Villa, that first 'pop' is followed by a closer, much louder explosion, as well as the sound of shattering glass.

About five minutes after these events, Shiro makes a post to the network. He's specifically doing a voice post for Reasons.]

So.

Are there any carpenters in this city?

[The bottle rolls across the floor and runs into the pirate's foot. The pirate slowly looks down at it, then back up at Rin and Shiro.]

...Guess there's no trap. Cover your ears.

[Because Shiro's gonna take at least one good shot at this thing before the rush in to fight. Ranged weapons are the best.]

Right.

[Sword put back, Rin's hands went over his pointed ears. It was going to leave him vulnerable, but he would just have to move quickly the second the gun was done firing.]

Ready!

[Shiro manages to get a couple shots off, with most of them hitting the pirate, before he has to stop and reload. But this pirate is a boss pirate, so of course he's got beefed up HP and needs more than being riddled with fantasy-bullets to die.]

Go!

[He'll let Rin stab at it a few times as he ejects the spent rounds and prepares the gun for another round of shots.]

I'm on it!

[Sword out, Rin charged forward, swiping his sword upward as he called out that attack once again.]

Take this! KNOCK OUT BLOW!

[The pirate lets out a shriek of pain and stumbles, but it's not quite down yet.]

Dad, hit it again! We almost got it!

[See, Shiro has some pretty awesome powers which would come in handy here. But he doesn't want to call out his attacks like a loser so he is not using them, not until he absolutely has to. Instead he just finished loading his gun and empties another series of rounds into the pirate.

The pirate shrieks again, but this time the shriek is more of a ghastly wail, clearly meant to disable Shiro and Rin for a moment. It does get Shiro, and he drops the rounds of ammunition he was about to load into his gun when he flinches and tries to cover his ears.]

[ugh Dad come on, get with the game. Seriously.

Rin thinks it's cool, but Rin also likes sentai and wants to be an awesome action hero in his dreams, so this is kind of like the best curse ever for him.

Best. And worst, when shit like this happens. Shiro is still a good distance away, but Rin is right next to the bastard. If the shots from Shiro's rifle were bad, this is torture.

Rin drops to his knees, sword falling to the ground as he slams his hands over his ears and tries to drown out the sound, screaming even though it can't be heard over that awful noise. If everything hadn't been game mechanics, that would have made his ears bleed.

But even if that isn't, there's still the fact that he's made himself vulnerable, and the pirate turns to the one closest to him and promptly kicks Rin hard in the face, knocking him down where he can be kicked in the gut, hard.

That's two hit points gone.]

[Oh hell no that pirate didn't just kick Rin down like that!

The screaming ends soon enough, since attacks come and go like that in rpg combat. As soon as he can focus again without that pounding pain in his head, Shiro sees Rin on the ground and the pirate preparing to attack again.

There's no time to reload again, so instead Shiro rushes forward and swings the gun like a baseball bat, trying to knock the pirate away from Rin. It's not as effective as shooting or stabbing, but Shiro's more trying to get Rin some time to recover.]

[They may be able to avoid broken bones, burns, cuts and the rest of the usual fare that would come with these kinds of fights, but it still hurts to get kicked around like that. Rin groans and coughs a few times before he's able to pull himself on to his hands and knees, looking up to see his dad wailing on the damn pirate with his gun like a bat.

Damn, old man.

But it's not something he needs to focus on right then. Sword grabbed off the ground, Rin gets to his feet, wobbling a little until he can steady himself. Just in time, too, as the pirate comes stumbling towards him, giving Rin enough room to ram the sword in to his back and straight through.]

That's for kickin' me, ya bastard.

[That seems to be enough to finish off the pirate, too. With one last scream it disappears into nothing, leaving behind only its heart.

Shiro is winded from the encounter, but he still can't help but grin at Rin. He's proud of Rin for being stabby mc stabberton.]

You've definitely grown. You're better than I ever expected.

[Rin is a good stabby mc stabberton]

Heh. Me? What about you! That's a mean swing you got there, old man! Never thought I'd see the day my dad beat down some one with a rifle!

[Aww Rin you're making him feel even more proud.]

Well, you do what you gotta do to win. Sometimes you have to improvise.

Heheh. Sure worked!

[Oh look, a convenient jar to put that heart in. Rin's just going to go ahead and grab that up now.]

Y'know, for a coupla reckless warriors, we didn't do too bad.

You're right, we did pretty well.

Though next time we should probably grab someone who can disarm traps, or at least a healer to fix us up after we blow ourselves up.

[But all is well for now, they have the heart and can go claim the bounty.]

Yeah, that's a good idea. Let's go get this thing dropped off so we can find a healer and take a break.

[And it's off to the NPC they go!]
