Boss Fight - Octoboogie
[Sunday afternoon, ready or not, the monster that attacked the mosasaur is after the city. Upon first glance it seems to be a gigantic purple octopus, but closer inspection reveals a sharp row of teeth across its face. It's no ordinary octopus, and not just due to its size. It swims up to the bubble with such force that it stirs up a temporary whirlpool that results in various undersea creatures smacking against the barrier. If the sudden blocking of the sunlight from above doesn't get people's attention, the clattering noises sure will. When it speaks, its voice is raspy, and it sounds as if it finds this whole situation to be just hilarious.]
[It peers down into the bubble with one of its enormous yellow eyes, squinting up in a manner that makes it look as if it's smirking. Two tentacles attach themselves to the bubble and start pulling. There's an ominous groaning sound, and then...]
[Divine lightning strikes down from some point on the island to hit the invader. It lets go of the barrier, swimming up to the island at top speed.
Seconds later, all characters holding the badges from the curse would find their communicators turning on suddenly. The cleric skill master is up on the island, her eyes trained on the shoreline by the bay.]
[A good cleric is always prepared. The skill master has provided a basic strategy for anyone feeling particularly lost, and she sends it out to everyone's communicators before cutting off the feed.]
You're all new to this, so I won't hold it against you if you screw this up. Here's some basics for you. I don't know what kind of monster we'll be facing just yet, but just in case, here's a little primer you can use no matter what you're up against.
Clerics - you know what you're in for by now. Bring some mana potions, bring your faith, and bring a megaphone to shout out warnings to your party. You'll be in the back, so you'll be able to see attacks coming. Pace yourselves. Don't heal every little boo-boo, this thing is big and we'll be in it for the long haul.
Warriors - strap in, because this won't be like fighting the little guys. You're likely to be riding this fight out half dead the whole time, and don't you dare blame that on your healer, that's just the nature of the beast. Watch yourself, and try to avoid blowing everything all at once. Hold back until you see a pattern of attack. Most importantly, keep the big thing's attention off your friends! You've got it in you, I know you do.
Mages - unfortunately I don't have any information on what this thing is gonna be weak against. All I know is "it's big and it's got suckers". Try to do low level spells until you figure out what's hurting it and what might be healing it. If you run out of mp, tell your party before you go running off to regenerate. Good luck.
Rogues - you're gonna want to pace yourselves. This sort of fight won't be over quickly. Try to get in and poison or confuse whatever this thing turns out to be, and hold off on attacking until you see openings or you'll tire yourselves out. You can move faster than anyone, so you might also want to keep an eye out for allies who have been knocked out. Bring 'em to me or to your cleric.
Beast Masters - I can't pretend to really understand the bond you guys have with your pets, but you can basically function as a little team all on your own. Try to look out for your pet and don't put too much of a burden on the clerics. Dive in behind the warriors so your pet doesn't get hurt too badly, and bring healing items for it. You're probably going to be on support a bit more than you're used to.
Bards - it's up to you guys to balance out the weaknesses of your party. That's going to be a little different for each one of you, so I can't help you too much. Keep an eye on party composition and be ready to switch up your song and dance on the fly. In a bad spot it can help if you distract the enemy while injured party members get out of the way, too.
I'm not going to pretend any of these strategies are perfect, so if anyone comes up with some better ideas while the fight is going on, I wish you all the best. I mostly wrote this up for anyone who might be panicking with no idea what to do. Oh, and the groups that fought the werewolf and the giant slime? Bring whatever you found. I bet we'll need it.

OOC: It's the big battle! This boss will have more than one phase and he will be played out by us, so hop in and get to fighting him!
Hello there boys and girls! Are you ready to play?
[It peers down into the bubble with one of its enormous yellow eyes, squinting up in a manner that makes it look as if it's smirking. Two tentacles attach themselves to the bubble and start pulling. There's an ominous groaning sound, and then...]
Oww! Hey, watch it!
That thing is going to be up here any second. I can't last for long on my own, so get yourselves up here now! Clerics, pair yourselves with a warrior and snag all the damage dealing classes you can find! We're going to have to roll with a pick-up-group raid, here. So -
Well hello, pretty lady!
...just read this and hurry it up!
[A good cleric is always prepared. The skill master has provided a basic strategy for anyone feeling particularly lost, and she sends it out to everyone's communicators before cutting off the feed.]

Phase 1

Pulling out his sword and throwing his shield at a tentacle in an attempt to get it's attention. Anyone willing to be support or protected by the Warrior?]
no subject
no subject
That's when she found Faris in a bit of trouble. She had seen the tenticle go for him. She knew she had to work quickly.]
BOLT!
[Sure the bolt spell she used was just a level one, but she wanted to be sure as to a weakness first. That... and she wasn't used to using spells not based in light or dark still.]
no subject
Woah there! Good thing I don't have hair little guy, that would have ruined it!
[Due to the "game" mechanics, he's not angry enough to shift his attention off Faris just yet, but his attacks do seem slowed somewhat. Being electrified is hard!]
Eridan get over here;
Was she supposed to be casting support spells? She sure had a lot of them up her adorable cleric costume's sleeve.
So, yeah, helping out was a good, important thing to be doing. Sure, but first it just seems reasonable to loudly complain while out of the range of thrashing tentacles. ]
It's just so adorabubble! I don't see why we can't just try to make friends first.
[ Maybe she could just... go over there and try to make friends anyway. Hmmm.
Hmmmm.
She was the most helpful of trolls. ]
no subject
Sorry sweetheart, but you're a bit too young for me! Still, I'll give you a nice little SQUEEZE for the compliment!
[Hopefully someone shows up quick, because one of those tentacles is headed right for Feferi and the sort of squeeze he has in mind would likely render her unconscious.]
Just swooping in here >.>
Get your slimy suckers away from her and leave the bubble alone, jerkface!
[Okay so he doesn't have the smacktalk down yet, but he definitely looks the part of avenging hero!]
no subject
Yeowch! I just wanted a little love, is that so wrong?
[She said he was cute! He was only going to squeeze her a little bit! He knows a hero when he sees one, though. Only one way to deal with that sort. One tentacle slam, now headed Sola's way.]
no subject
[ YEESH.
You try to be friendly with an octopus, and this is what happens. Clearly the tentacled monstrosities of a human planet were just plain rude.
She'd totally thought she'd been out of range, too. She casts a physical barrier on Sola as she scrambles over so maybe she could hide behind the kid. ]
no subject
He wishes he had his bow to be able to shoot the things' eyes instead, much preferring to attack the root of the problem directly instead of the limbs, but he's gotta work with what he's given.]
no subject
[Drat, though, she's behind Sola. He'll have to lure the warrior in first. He draws his tentacles inward, acting like the sword blow hurt him.]
That really smarts!
no subject
[ As he draws in, she makes a point to toss at him a basic Holy spell, too. He earned it! ]
You're so rude, so you deserve what you get!

Hurry up and chop it off or somefin!
no subject
[She's so bossy for a damsel in distress! Even so, Sola follows the direction and as soon as his shield makes it back to his arm he's aiming several chopping swings down at the felled tentacle, aiming to hack it off. He doesn't seem to be fussed about any resulting gore, either.]

[For now there aren't any tentacles headed Selphie's way - instead, one is raised up in the air, trying to wave the smoke away. How rude, putting down a smoke screen like that! How could people on the ground observe his handsome face with smoke in the way?]

Seafood soup is NOT on the menu!
[He raises up slightly, sending a potentially blinding blast of ink Fai's way.]
no subject
But seafood soup might be tasty and the villagers might like to try and new delicacy~
[Okay so fire is a bad idea, but come on warriors! Hit it while he is distracted by a running vampire.]

Open to threadjacking
Unfortunately his sensibility doesn't apply to the reach of the creature, not when there's a tentacle reaching toward him, and short of healing it there's not much he can do to keep it back.]
/CRASHES IN
[It's a good thing Rin saw you nearly getting snagged by that tentacle, Ky. The half-demon warrior comes barreling in, flameless but still swinging his sword hard while hurling his favored move at it.
He skid to a halt in front of Ky, panting heavily from running to the island (and across it) from the Villa. As soon as he'd seen the announcement from the cleric he gave Kid an order - stay and protect anyone not affected by the curse, in case they fail and that thing gets in - and left him very little room to argue.
He was going to get hell for that later, but right now his main concern was the creature in front of them.]
Idiot! If you're gonna be up here the least you can do is dodge and not get your sorry ass grabbed!
no subject
Yeowch! Hey, you can't blame me for going for the healer! That's cheap, you know. I don't heal!
[Pouting, he slams one tentacle down with a WHOOSH, kicking up a lot of sand and possibly spraying it right in their faces.]
no subject
He coughs as he catches some of the sand in his mouth, but tries to swallow quickly so he can respond, trying reason.]
You don't have to be here.
no subject
Don't you start givin' me orders. I'm here cause I'm gonna make damn sure that thing doesn't take out anyone I care about! And that includes you and anyone else down in the city!
[Sorry Ky, you're not going to get much time to argue but Rin is already gearing up for another attack, charging at that tentacle that came down on them.]
You're not goin' after anyone! NASTY BLOW!!
no subject
no subject
[If talking might work, Ky will try it. Although it's harder to be calm when he's being attacked.]
I understand the call to duty.
[And he'd be the last one to try to stop someone heeding it.
He mutters a prayer under his breath, the lack of sight almost claustrophobic but his attentions are on Rin, since he can only cast Sight for one of them, and Rin's the one who can use more.]
no subject
[Rin's spectacular moment of derp only lasts a second, but it's a second too long and the ink pretty much hits him square in the face, causing him to reel back and sputter noisily until he regains his balance.
Luckily Ky's casting works and the blindness is gone within a minute. He doesn't need much intelligence to realize that Ky only cast it on Rin, likely leaving him blinded while the warrior was rescued from it.]
Damn! Ky, are you okay?!
[Probably not, Rin.]
no subject
[The blindness doesn't last for long, but it lasts long enough for him to recover and aim for Ky again. In this state, Ky won't even be able to dodge! He'll take out the healer and then he'll be able to cream Rin without having to redo his work over and over again.]
no subject
[Ky can't even see the creature aiming for him, so he'll respond to Rin as if he's not.]
Just focus on what you need to do.
[Ky's trying talking to it, but he knows fighting's the answer they have to do. And he can't do that, blinded or not.]
no subject
[Nope, that tentacle is getting blocked. Rin darts in front of Ky and puts his sword up. He's not the strongest warrior around though, so it still knocks him back pretty far.
But he's back on his feet quickly, taking a stance as he readies for another attack. He needs a moment to recover, but that's another moment that leaves Ky open to get hit.]
Get back, Ky! He's gonna take another shot at you!
Phase 2
Phase 3
[The smirking octopus has regained the use of his tentacles, and now he's in a frenzy! He's casting spells and using skills left and right. His movements aren't as coordinated though, and sometimes his center is exposed, though only briefly. If there was some way to focus all the attacks on his body, surely he must be weakened enough by now that he could be taken out!]
PEANUT GALLERY!
He floats here and there, near a roof or two on occasion but definitely away from the crowd and the danger. A wary tentacle whips out to his direction but it barely misses him by a hair's breadth as he maneuvers his couch out of the way and to somewhere further and safer. ]
Bravo, Vatheon. Bravo indeed~ It seems you've chosen to end this with quite the show! But no thank you. I'd rather stay away from the crowd.
[ Care to join him? He can poof up more food if need be. ]
